  • I don't think it's hard, being vegan. Quite the contrary.

  • Congratulations and presented with much power. I do high raw and I am married to a vegan. We teach, provide dishes and have a ball when we are with others - judgement free. I, too am on a weightloss journey and I am determined. We have also move to cruetly free!!! Wonderful video and very inspiring!!

  • 100 pounds in a year? good job!

  • I know how you feel, I started at 315 pounds and now I'm at 238. My journey to veganism has taken me about 2 years, I've finally got my food, household products, bath and beauty products cruelty free. My weight loss has slowed so much though! I still get weird looks when I say I'm a vegan, they just see me at the weight I'm at.... they don't know where I started from! It's more than just a diet it's a complete lifestyle change.

  • I've been a vegan for 3 years and vegetarian prior to that and FYI vegans can throw down too and if your "black", curvacious, don't trip sis; keep doing you. The key to losing weight on any diet is exercise no matter what title is being used. People are beginning to tap into the trauma and mass production that has been occurring to animals for centuries. They have souls, minds and a memory ban, flesh, eyes, blood and breath etc, just like a human being, to eat that is learned behavior.

  • Thanks for being who you are, you are certainly a role model for people like me who want to go all the way, I have been vegetarian for 3 years now. And it is very hard to go out and eat with my non vegetarian husband and family but I do see menus changing slowly...more & more people are opting for being healthy and living in a more caring world, good luck!

  • THANK you for this! Been vegan since May, and both my husband and I have been asked over and over "how come you're so fat then?!". But these people haven't known us when we were not vegan, plus they don't know our own personal struggles. I'm (still) insulin dependent, and my Dr's have told me that that blocks easy weight-loss. But it's coming down. And it doesn't happen overnight. Took years to get there... I LOVE being vegan & will NEVER go back! YAAY YOU!!! :))

  • I have been vegetarian for more than 15 years and vegan for 5 years. Have had same comments towards me.... I still have a lovely round face and round curves :) love it all. Vegan does not mean a stick. Veganism is more than just a diet. Just as you say, it is a lifestyle! Love to you! Keep on keeping on!

  • P.S........YOU'RE NOT A VEGAN IF YOU WEAR LEATHER OR FUR. BEING VEGAN IS MORE THAN A DIET FOR ONES SELF. IT REALLY IS MORE ABOUT SAVING ANIMALS LIFES. FACTORY FARMED ANIMALS ARE THE LARGEST GROUP OF ANIMAL ABUSED. YET THERE MILLIONS OF DOGS & CATS SKINNED ALIVE FOR THEIR FUR AND MILLIONS NOT SKINNED YET ARE COOKED & EATEN IN ASIA. EATING ANIMALS IS CULTURAL IGNORANCE. LACK OF COMPASSION FROM A DISCONNECT. LAB ANIMALS ARE ALSO TORTURED, CATS, DOGS, PRIMATES AND IT'S BARBARIC THE PAIN & SUFFERING.

  • continuation of my previous comment: others eat because they're just passionate & very serious about saving animals lives by spreading the word about how cruel eating meat really is.

  • BEING VEGAN IS NOT THE ISSUE. PLEASE DON'T WEAR FUR EITHER. PLEASE KNOW THAT THESE ANIMALS ARE KILLED INHUMANELY AND MOST ARE SKINNED ALIVE. BEAUTY INNOCENT ANIMALS KILLED JUST FOR A PRODUCT THAT IN TODAYS TIMES ARE NO LONGER NEEDED. IF YOU ONLY KNEW THE FACTS. DON'T BE A MERE VEGAN WHICH IS AWESOME YET BE A ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. ALSO, THEIR ARE VEGAN BLACK MEN OUT THEIR THAT ALSO CARE ABOUT ANIMALS THAT ARE OBJECTIFIED. PLEASE TEACH OTHERS NOT JUST CLAIM TO BE "VEGAN". THEY'LL LISTEN IF SMART

  • continuation of my previous comment: when u love animals like I do & u see some1 "supporting the slaughterhouse" as I call it ur gonna make a big deal outta it because every piece of meat they buy is another 1000 animals lives lost & that devastating to people who truly care for animals, personally I think they're the most innocent and beautiful creatures on earth & it breaks my heart to ever think of even 1 of them being hurt for any reason, so u shouldn't get down on ppl that judge what...

  • First off I applaud u for being a vegan any1 that does anything that saves animals lives is cool in my book. The only thing I don't agree w/ is when u say it's not a big deal what people eat like if someone eats meat. I think it's definitely a big deal. I'm a vegetarian myself and if I'm dating someone that eats meat I'm definitely gonna let them know I think it's wrong because I'm not a vegetarian because of a diet or because it's healthier I do it because I LOVE animals &...

  • I WAS STILL THIN AS I WAS A MEAT EATER 6 YEARS AGO. I HAD 3 AUNTS THAT WERE VEGETARIANS YET NEVER QUESTIONED THEIR DIETS. I WAS GIVING OVER $1500 A YEAR TO ANIMAL CAUSES CAUSE I LOVED ANIMALS. THEN WITHOUT EVEN ANY ONE POINTING ANY THING OUT, IT HIT ME. I LOVED ANIMALS YET WAS EATING THEM?!I BEGAN TO RESEARCH HOW ANIMALS WERE BEING RAISED FOR SLAUGHTER & THEN I WAS DEPRESSED FOR MONTHS. I HAD BEEN IGNORANT BY CULTURAL BRAINWASHING. I DON'T EAT ANIMALS CAUSE I CARE & NOW WORK TO SAVE THEIR LIFES.

  • I respect that you went vegan yet being vegan means much more than a diet. I can't even sit at the table with a meat eater and it is a big deal to me. won't step into a fast food place either. I see only a dead tortured animal on their plates. Being 'Vegan" is not about health it's about ALL the other issues. Being "vegan" means NOT wearing animals too. Being "vegan" is about "EARTHLINGS" , SO PLEASE watch the video on youtube and also "FORKS OVER KNIFES". THIS VIDEO NEEDS YOUR FOLLOW UP VIDEO!

  • You rock! Great Video and Congrats!!!!! Thanks for this.. sharing on facebook... friend me on facebook... facebook.com/josh.alterman Not being weird :-) ....I'm friends with any and all vegans.

  • I enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  • You really are extremely beautiful.

  • I just have to say that from my point of view, you are a BEAUTIFUL woman, a beautiful human being. People need to learn to speak kindly to other people. I know a lot of vegans who are larger. Some are beginners. Others have to use medications or have health issues that keep them larger. Vegans are not stick figures or twigs.

  • I liked your video. I'm a Black Male Vegan, been that for about 10 months now and very happy with it. I catch some hell from some family members and and the guys at work but I don't let it bother me anymore. My life and my choice and they can take as many years off their lives as they wish.

  • Hi. Just saw this video in Austin Texas. Yeah, so glad you're a vegan and that you lost 100 lbs! I've been a vegan for 22 almost 23 years. Gave up meat instantly but gave myself one year to go vegan. At the end of one year, that was it, I was vegan. No back sliding, no regrets, no looking back. And, it cured me of my diary allergies, completely. Good luck, Diva.

  • great contribution! really well done!

    thanks!

    vegan greetings,

    chris

  • vegans rule! X

  • Good job ,I'm so proud of u u havnt to start some were. U don't havnt to throw shit away just don't buy anything else and eat a vegan diet.some peeps are bullshit jealous cause they can't do it:)

  • Just awesome! Your story is brilliant. On FB there is a huge family of vegan friends. I have learned so much and have become good friends with many. Are you on FB? If so I would like you to be my friend and I would introduce you to the vegan family. I hope to hear from you. I'm Charlotte.

  • Great video. Yes it takes time for the body to change - the health benefits are also slow and gradual. I have had the most amazing health benefits over five years. Now I get no colds and flus and the chronic fatigue I suffered from for 20 years is now completely cured - so I would imagine it would be similar with weight. You look great now anyway lovely lady, so good on you for making such a healthy change for yourself, for the animals and for the planet.

  • I am so happy I saw your video! Keep your head up you are doing so good, stay strong and stay vegan!

  • Wonderful video. Thank you for all the truth you speak! Society is so quick to label everything and everyone and then decide "You don't look like _______________." Fill in the blank.

  • Wonderful video!!!!

    oxox

  • This is so amazing! I think saying a vegan has to look a certain way is a form of discrimination. I like metal music but do I look like a "metal head"? I like electronic music, but do I look like a crazy raver? I'm fat and vegan.....there are just no good ways to put an image + a label.

  • You go girl! <3 Vegans

  • awesome video!

  • Outstanding!

  • Thanks for making this video! Welcome to the vegan community!

  • Respect to u!!

  • Have a look at happyherbivore on facebook. I think it looks like a good recipe book as well.

  • I was extremely touched by this video. Yes, you are beautiful. While you are in transition, eat any vegan foods you like. Your health will be much better off for it. Longer term, you could look towards making your choices as healthy as possible also. You could start with fries and salad or sweet veggies and then steamed or baked potatoes or rice. You can keep it simple and your taste buds will adjust. I really enjoyed eating this way but follow 80/10/10 now. Other ideas are vegan curry, chilli etc

  • Well done for making the decision and sticking to it. Veganism isn't for the weak, that's for sure! It takes no strength to go along with what everyone else is doing. Good on you for for standing for what you believe in!

  • Great more crazy vegans. It's like the new fad of 21st century. Just like any other diet fads in the past century, it's bound to die.

  • @MrBrutus101 All evidence points to the contrary! Numbers are growing.

  • @RichieFruitbat I won't stop you. But if you develop chemical imbalance, don't blame me.

  • @MrBrutus101 So far I've been vegan for 8 years in total, and in all that time have not needed to see a doctor once. I don't even get colds, or headaches. On top of that I have recently taken up distance running, and am gaining in speed/endurance all the time. I take no medications of any kind... ever. I track nutrients on cronometer every so often to make sure I'm getting all I need.

So far, I'm pretty confident that I'm gonna be OK! but thanks for the concern ;-)

  • encouraging. you go girl!

  • Water: Vegans consider water a foodgroup. Clear evidence that they are retarded.

  • You're a beautiful lady. Even more so for your veganism (:

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH ! THAT MADE MY DAY

  • @HAPPYNAPPYDIVA1 -DID YOU GET YOUR VERY MUCH WELL DESERVED DATE WITH A CUTE BLACK VEGAN BOY???

  • Did you throw away your furcoat too after becoming a vegan? (I saw it on your picture)

  • You're beautiful and strong, God bless you for taking a moral stand. Screw people family or not; they don't understand.

I recently saw "Earthlins" watch it if you can cause it sounds like your basic motivation is weight loss, but If you get an actual conviction about what it really means to be vegan, then you will be that much more persistant all the more; ethically, not just health . (Not saying that's you)...just saying. I'm also African an American woman and YES we do get it the worst LOL!!

  • Also, being vegan is not only about what we eat. It's about not using animals as commodities, and that includes clothing, personal products, entertainment, etc.

Being vegan means not using animal products, not only the ones we eat. But people only focus on the diet part of it. If someone eats a plant based diet but uses leather shoes, they are not really vegan.

  • That is very true, I think that people only focus on that part because they feel that it the first step! At lease for me it was, I then begain to watch the clothes that I buy and the shoes and movies that people go see! But it all begain with food for me! But you are so right!

  • There's something I really dislike about the whole stereotype of vegans being slender, super fit, "skinny bitches"... Not everyone can be a size 2 or whatever. I for one had always been skinny before... being vegan helped me gain weight, eating healthy whole foods. I know a lot of vegans who are not thin, and they are fine like that.

If someone tells you that you don't look like a vegan, it's maybe because they've never seen a vegan before! We come in all shapes and sizes ;)

  • awesome check my videos recipes vegan issues and much more the junglesurfer

  • Well, thank you . I just feel like people dont look at the big picture. The look at you for superfical stand point! Its not about where you are it about where you are going! Kiss much love too you!

  • great video !! i feel you ..i'm white but i also just started being a vegan and i'm big as well ..i always see them skinny girls being vegan and whatever . you're great !!!

  • I am a vegan too and I feel you!
