Yeah, 80's horror flicks stragely get better with time - not all of them, but there is something visceral and honest about them. No CGI, no green screens (Bluescreens, sure)...but the special effects looked less affected and computer generated - that's because they weren't. Re-Animator, Evil Dead 1 and 2..these films looked significant, and they still stand up: they have a pulse, and that's endearing! This schlock is better than Grindhouse! Fucking awesome.

Loved how this tied into the two semi-sequels "Munchie" and "Munchie Strikes Back." The old man in one movie tells a boy that long ago the earth was ruled by a race of creatures known as Munchies. I'll have to see this one sometime.

It copied Gremlins, Goulies and Critters. But this was a classic 80's B movie. I rented it several times so my friends sleeping over had all seen it. I need to watch it again stoned as an adult and bathe in the nostalgia.

My guess would have been a Citizen Kane clone. ; ) I remember coming across the box of this film at my local video rental store back in the late 80s or early 90s(Where the munchie is looking up a girl's skirt. Yeah apparently it came out on DVD to buy but went out of print really fast so it's really rare now to find it on dvd. I only have a crappy VHS copy.

I saw it on TV with my sisters and cousins. We all thought it was dumb, but I think I was the only one actually laughing throughout. In fact we ate later with our parents, and I was still laughing. That scene where the Munchies chase the girls - their heads bobbing up and down in a cheap puppet run - was what did it for me.
