  • Tim for president!!

  • Basically what I got from this is: "EVERYONE COME SEE HOW GOOD-LOOKING I AM!" But really Ferriss is great.

  • @greenospreyphish Look at the comment @Janac made.

  • @dumanator1 - Amen brother!!

  • This guy is a problem solving machine.Vote Ron Paul and him as vice president! They could fix some shit together!

  • Absolutely brilliant guy. Probably more brilliant than a lot of the other TEDsters and very unassuming. He should be given one of those 1 hour slots, and hope we get to see a lot more of him

  • The TIM FERRIS IS FABULOUS talk...

I was thrown in the water at age three by my father, two options: sink or survival...swim. All of the physics he refers to sounds like white noise.

Just enjoy thrashing around and you get it.

  • Anything is possible, except ending the Federal Reserve.

  • just heard this guy on Rogan's podcast, he's very intriguing,

  • idk why people downgrade anyone who is better than them. Stop being jealous and learn something

  • Tim is my life coach. Cheers!

  • Its like listening to my alcoholic uncle, talks and talks, but there is no real point.

Takes 8 mins teaching me to swim...waiting for the point. "That will get you very far, thats it, thats really all you need to know, now languages"

RAWWW he is a fucking troll

  • One error he makes regarding "change in educational system" is the assumption that our educational system is actually looking for/ willing to implement any changes. our government and elite classes like us dumb

  • OMG! i lOVE TIM FERRIS! :) anything is possible!!!

  • I'm ready for that swimming lesson now. I'll be at the gym at 6am in my speedo. You be there too in yours.

  • who would want to be like the hulk???? seriously he iz a green dude in purple shorts, i swear if he had no muscles and a tail i would think he iz barney

  • @Twilightlover983 feel, not be the incredible hulk.

  • @Twilightlover983 barney is purple your stupid cunt. hulk is green. he would be hermit the frog you gay stupid bitch. fuck you.

  • @mprime2003 bitch calm ur god damn hormones i wuz kidding take a joke and i dontn want 2 fuck u cuz u haave aids lol

  • New process everyone is trying because network achievement really works:

    1. Make a list of things to do to get there

    2. Decide how you can achieve them:

    (a) collaborate with friends

    (b) barter tasks with someone who can help

    (c) challenge someone to get there first.

    3. Get things done and track success.

    This is tapTank.

  • I am really not impressed by Ferriss's work. Okay there are some things in his books that can be applied in real life, but personally I think the concepts from other motivational speakers are much better (e.g. T. Robbins).

Plus, for me Ferriss is no someone I look up to. He had a perfect childhood, good looks, etc. he is just a lucky guy who didn't "work" for his success.

If you want some true inspiration look for Sean Stephenson or Nick Vujicic.

  • @OOOJimPanseOOO Thats an ignorant thing to say about a person you do not even know lol

  • People are so jealous of this dude. It's hilarious. I wonder if any of these negative comments are based in personal insecurity.

    I wonder.....

  • Another garbage TED Talk.

  • Naw, he is mostly a fraud who is very good at self-promotion. His books, especially the 4-hour body, are mostly garbage. He gets so much wrong it is laughable. I would be surprised if he has any formal education. He is like the guys from Jack Ass who try to be "extreme".

  • @LardInATubeSock: He went to Princeton. Where did you go to school?

  • @LardInATubeSock He has a degree in Neuroscience from Princeton . . . Consider yourself surprised. As a side note, "Jack Ass" is one word. Remind me again who was questioning someone else's education?

  • @LardInATubeSock He went to princeton.

  • his ego??? pay attention to the last 5 lines he spoke "i know nothing - i'm a beginner - i ask a lot of questions"

  • brilliant talk

  • I have this book "Total Emersion" brilliant re-construction of swimming better-Great presentation.

  • This dude is dope!

  • What a hero

  • what this is about

    1) there are goals outside of work

    2) if you aren't good at something, you just haven't found the right method yet

    3) you have to do your OWN research to find out what makes people professional athletes/dancers the best. (none of his swimming teachers taught him what angle to hit the water)

    4) Fear is fun, its exciting and conquerable

  • @Janac That's what a top comment is supposed to be like.

  • HES Japanese expressions & accents are so ACCURATE!!! wow, especially for a white guy!

  • Aaand. :D

  • Awesome lecture.

  • The 4 HOUR BODY is amazing. Everyone buy it.

  • 86 swimming instructors didn't like Tim showing up their incorrect freestyle method.

  • Message to all my fellow Over-achievers:

Don't suppress the pessimism of people. Do what I do. I sit there laugh their ignorant comments. It's comedy to me.

    What about you guys.

  • no matter what people say about his style/outlook/delivery, at the end of the day he is where few people are at, point blank! shame it's easier to criticize one another than to support and uplift each other.

  • Comment removed

  • I have purchased 4-Hour Body. I have been studying this area for forty years. Tim's information is correct, concise, and will work. Do it! Seeing all the other things he has categorized is amazing.

  • @budgetbass1 I finished his book recently. Very interesting read. SInce you're a specialist in the field and if you don't mind answering, what other food (beyond what Tim suggests) could you recommend for muscle repair?

  • This man is the epitome of what it means to be an intelligent athlete, but especially wrestler. I feel like wrestlers are the most misunderstood athletes because what we do doesn't seem to have much value and isn't relate-able to those who haven't been immersed. Tim has immersed himself in things that are challenging with a tough AND smart approach to achieving his goals. This was a great talk, and very inspiring!

  • Things that scare the living hell out of me? Clowns... yea Clowns

  • I see out of everything he claims can be achieved he hasn't found a successful 'cure' for hair loss.

  • now, what the f is he talking about?

  • Wow, Ferris is like totally awsom! i wanna be like him.

  • he could do better than this. it seems very like planning went into this presentation.

  • @Annapoliis just 4 hours XD

  • dude, the incredible hulk is a terrible rolemodel, he can't control his temper!!!!

better show us how to be like mighty, mighty thor!

  • It's not a very good talk, is it? This is information not very well presented. Maybe he tried to do too much in the allotted time.

  • @RogerHoare I gained a lot from it, seemed to flow nicely. I liked it.

  • Yeah i think a lot of us need to learn to swim figuratively speaking

  • although i liked the part about the swimming all i could find from this guy was some gym workout videos and some b.s. about working 4 hours a week and part of his resume is that he is a metrics driven entrepreneur and a guest lecturer twice a year in Princeton, duh!!

he is just another wannabe super-achiever imo

  • @LusoCMD You obviously didn't understand a thing about what he just said.

  • what the hell is the theme of his talk? "things tim ferriss is good at"? it's a random clusterfuck of "lessons" that are more like bragging, success stories than actually helpful

  • @peasoupanddietcoke If you say that then you are just stupid enough not to understand the main 3 points of this talk. Sorry, it's your own fault, not his. this presentation was awesome and teaches you 3 very important things.

  • @peasoupanddietcoke I wish this wasn't a top comment, it is very misleading.

  • This guy reminds me of Michael Scofield.

  • The title of this video is misleading.

  • said public education project is nowhere to be found on his website.

  • Similar thing happened as a kid at a friends beach house. I was swimming the lake practicing my newly acquired skill of holding my breath underwater. One time I went under and when I came up, I thought I would be breathing fresh air, instead my head hit a large round yellow float and I panicked. Couldn't find the surface. That was traumatizing. But Still alive to enjoy this good talk.

  • I like how specific he is when it comes to breaking down his outcome. "I do it like this because of this.. period" no ambiguity.

  • I was assuming I'd hear the Tony Robbins version of how to feel like the incredible hulk (breathing posture etc). Although I was happy NOT to have heard the same from Mr. Ferris, I WAS hoping for a whole lot more out of this talk.. Mr. Ferris perhaps a lesson in PR, pitch points and devising more accurate titles for your talks is in order. Keep at it though, your advice has changed my life and the lives of others that I love.

  • Tim Ferris, Your so manly!!111

  • Amazing.

A lot of it went over my head though. I'll have to watch it again. I didn't quite know what to take away from the languages bit. If anyone reading this could help me out that would be great.

  • @charlesr456 same for me. he had some great info but perhaps didnt put it to us that well.

im also interested in the languages part, im learning mandarin and rosetta stone has sped up my learning by about four times, compared with regular school technique... i wonder what other unconventional methods there are out there?

  • WOW! This guy is AMAZING!

  • I think I watched this video on his page. His story is hilarious, but I think he really needs to explain how he deconstructs things better.

  • Wow! There are a lot of comments that deconstruct Tim's lecture and bash his ego, message, and success. His book and lecture convey examples of what one is capable of if they are focused on analyzing and utilizing the most efficient and productive methods to accomplish a particular goal.

Your goals and desires don't have to be the same as Tim's to find useful information in his text.

Good luck to all the haters.

  • @bone747474

Actually it's focusing on the most effective methods rather than efficient according to this video. ;)

  • Seems like most of you are jealous that he portrays himself with confidence and is good looking. But take some of his strategies and apply them. How many guys learn to swim at age 31. How many are couch potoatoes with no goals outside of work. I look at this as inspirational. Oh and the FDA doesn't regulate the sports nutrition industry but that doesn't mean the products aren't worthwile. Maybe we can make our own decisions on something. I applaud him for his success. Please rape me at 8am haha

  • @mohottie30 "he portrays himself with confidence and is good looking." Interesting. No correlation right?

  • Kind of works if you are conveying your ideas, less if you're telling a personal anecdote.

  • I like it, it makes the resentation personal

  • Try to watch a video without whining like a bitch.

  • hahaha try not being a nigger

  • The people who watched this and gleaned nothing of value simply were trying as hard as they can NOT to see anything worth while.

The man deconstructs 3 successes in his life for you to learn something from, and you can't appreciate it because you didn't like how it was packaged for you?

  • i think the goal of this presentation was to inspire

no reason to fling insults, i dont think this guy was simply boasting

  • It truly amazes me how a man can claim to a productivity guru based on a non-fda approved nutritional supplement.

Is their a reason we don't see Steve Jobs from Apple, Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, Sergey Brin from Google, Jon Rubinstein from palm, Paul Maritz of vmware, . Larry Ellison of Oracle, Craig McCaw of McCaw wireless (now owned by At&t.

Think of every industry in your area, the top ceos, etc. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Alex Seropian and Jason Jones creators of marathon / halo, and etc

  • Tim Ferriss: How to look like an arrogant asshole.

  • every 4-h of the day!

  • The most useless lecture of TED.

  • I can't believe I watched some of this "talk" either

  • Want to know how to make a million? Write a book about how to make a million, tested or not on any group of people.

Welcome to the life of Tim Ferriss.

  • epic fail

  • This guy just seems to be on a massive ego trip. I bet he's absolutely awful to socialize with. If the conversation isn't about him he most probably switches off.

Definitely the worst, and possibly the most inappropriate TED talk I have seen.

  • Comment removed

  • Says alot without actually saying anything of substance at all.

A career in the Senate surely beckons.

  • And then you have the Japanese Kanji. All he did was shown you something you're foreign to so it seems to make sense. It's like a chart of 3000 most commonly used English words in a poster.

It worked for HIM. Educators have always been using different methods to educate their students. He made it sound like his way is correct for all students, which, if you taught students before, knows that it's not true.

This presentation is like a non-fiction gone wrong.

  • I agree - I studied Japanese for 6 years and for me it was a keyrign with small cards that i wrote the Kanji on.... no idea what his overall point is.

This guy is just really really irritating.

  • He used 3 isolated events, create an antagonistic force for each of them, and then tricks up his sleeves to imply there's a shortcut, and then gave a message.

I've done 2 of the 3 things he did. The thing he shown is just a drill out of 40 types of drill for front crawl. And then there's breaststroke, backcrawl, butterfly, sidestroke. His presentation acts to simplify a entire stroke based on a mere drill. He then used authority to convince you non-swimmers that he knows what he's saying

  • Please shut up.

It's supposed to be an encouraging fun talk.

Your mental deficiencies prevent you from understand that.

  • what's up Tim ;)

  • I concur..I am also familiar with Total Immersion Swimming and lived in Japan for 5 years..so..he does have a good message... but we are all mirrors of our own thoughts.

  • this man is fucking brilliant, this is the first vid i have seen of him, awesim.

  • sarcasm right!?

  • Why so many thumbs down for telling it like it is? The fact is, you learn nothing from this talk that hasn't already been said. All this talk teaches you is that fear is good, (A very overused philsophy) have a great life in which you have access to experts and masters in their respective crafts that the average person couldn't dream of meeting, and that Tim Farriss is awesome. Tim Farriss is obviously delusional if he thinks this is more than an ego-boost wrapped in a pretend self help lesson.

  • I'm sorry. I meant to say Tim Ferriss*. I apologize for the spelling error.

  • The point he makes is that if you systematize your thinking and approach to challenges, it greatly increases the ease of accomplishing. Yeah, that seems intuitive, but it still seems to completely pass people by. As he points out, even most swimming teachers do things incorrectly, because they never examine what they're doing, they just think that if they do it long enough, they'll figure it out intuitively. He's pointing out that practice, and even experience, will never trump deconstruction.

  • apparently you love talking about other people's dicks almost as much as you love thinking about them

  • hahahahahaha

  • To save people time, here's what he said that was worthwhile: Fear is your friend. Fear often shows you what you SHOULD do. Now, other than this interesting point, there's a ton of gloating and chest pounding

  • He shows what can be done by adopting a certain mindset, he is the result of his mindset. He found a way that worked for him and he applies it to everything he does, the result is astounding, show-off or not, he is good in everything he does... Good on you mate!

  • why are all of you guys bashing him and ted...,look at the description if you can't figure it out what the talk's supposed to be about for yourself..

he's a productivity guru and is just stating that everybody can be successful if he or she learns the right way to learn...and of course has the motivation to pursue his or her dreams

  • I realise he is only giving a short example but his Japanese sounds like a 2 year old Japanese kid with learning difficulties.

  • this guy is a show off

    yeah a show off

    show off....

    but

    his insights are good

    fear is your friend

  • This guy gives ten seconds of tips for every five minutes of stories. Thanks?

  • its not what you say, its how you say it.

  • THIS GUYS IS MAN IS BUILT LIKE A MOUNTAIN OF MUSCLE BUT HE IS HOLDING ME LIKE A FUCKING FRENCHMAN!, is it allowed to even say the F bomb in talk like these? i not saying a disapprove this just like whether he would get screwed after the show.

  • This guy looks like he thinks he can heal wounds, fix public schools system and cure AIDS by touch :)

  • loll

  • If there is no method to you'r madness , its an insanity

  • distractingly conspicuous ego.

  • This man has every right to be as egotistical as he wishes, look at him he is hunky and smart, can speak 5 languages and a world class tango dancer. if I were a women looking to make a baby, I would kidnap him for his sperm.

  • Welcome to another edition of Why Tim Ferriss Is Awesome, starring Tim Ferriss. Don't expect to learn anything, because it's all about TIM.

  • I am to minutes in, he describes a happy rush of energy and he compares it to the Hulk? I keep watching, but........HULK SMASH! hulk is angry.......last I checked?

  • Can you plz remove Bill Clinton from the "Remarkable People" catagory because it dosent make any since

  • yeah because becomming president is so commonplace

  • Why do people make such a big deal of "becoming" a president? Basically you just won a popularity contest.

Personally I am more interested by what they do while they're presidents and they handle the different problems a nation can have.

  • outsourcing = money.

you dont have to be einstein to figure it out..but its very difficult to realize that outsourcing and cheap stuff means exploiting t3rd world countries, AND no jobs for the US/europe.. no one wins, except the `boss`

  • "My inability to swim has been one of my greatest humiliations and embarrassments."

    Lucky guy.

  • Ferriss,

I read your book. I liked it a lot.

But, seriously, you should also outsource your public speaking (or go in a mini-retirement to sharpen your oral communication skills).

    Again, great book! loved it!

(How's that for a criticism sandwich?)

  • HE doesn't read this site man you're talking to no one.

  • "I'm going to go swimming - What's the worst that could happen?"

    "I could drown"

"I'm going to learn Japanese and go to Japan - what's the worst that could happen?"

"I could destroy a year of my life"

"I'm going to learn ballroom dancing - what's the worst that could happen?"

"I could get humialated doing something I hate by people I don't even want to be with"

    Great...

  • this talk is fucking retarded on a couple of levels

  • I don't know if that's the best title for this talk- was the Incredible Hulk learning foreign languages and taking dance lessons?

  • I totally agree, they should have titled it "Push yourself to learn" or something

  • His words seem self-serving to me and his humility, false. It was unnecessary for him to mention that he was much more muscular and then lost 42 pounds of muscle before the dance photo. That didn't add anything to the story and came across as egotistical. He strikes me as a bit of a scam artist by his blowing of his own horn and false humility. I do not buy what he is selling.

  • Agreed.

  • obviously

  • I tend to agree with you somewhat in that his mannerisms seem arrogant but I wouldn't let that affect your judgement of his words.

  • Difference between this guy and a lot of others?

    He got shit done. Period.

  • His message is pretty clear. Using analytical skills (that can be learned and developed) to solve problems. Break down what tango dancing is into steps and learn the steps. Break down swimming into parts and learn how to do each part. It's the fundamental rule of calculus really, when you're stuck on a problem, solve an easier one to help you with the big one. It's a pretty elegant integration of human abilities into practical applications. Well done!

  • "My inability to swim has been one of my greatest humiliations and embarrassments."

    Lucky guy.

I am not athletic; but lack of athletic prowess is not at the top of my list of disappointments in life. If I were to list cases of being humiliated, I wouldn't know where to begin, there are so many--- but I know it would not be with my limitations in sports, music, singing, or dancing the tango.

    Lucky guy.

  • He learns to swim and also to dance. And he used to be a lot more muscular than he is now. *applauds*

  • I don't get why this guy in on TED.

  • He has charisma, you have to give him that, and that leads to inspiration. Voila!

  • His message is that when you learn to master something that you fail at you feel very good, like the hulk.

  • "I don't get why this guy in on TED."

Couldn't have said it better myself. Still, it's great to see that some people have the time + resources to do all this, and make a living at the same time. I can only do either, not both.

  • I think the most interesting message given by this guy is "DO NOT FEAR". Use analytical frameworks and see how you can do the impossible. And this is what this guy exactly did: Despite of not having enough TED-type substance in his talk, he still made it to TED! Smart Guy!

  • Comment removed

  • It's funny he asks "what's the worst that could happen" when he seems to be consistently rewarded. He studies Japanese in school - he gets to study in Japan. He learns Japanese well - he gets a job as a translator. He takes an interest in ballroom dance - he's able to take instruction from "the greatest dancer of his generation" Sure, he takes command of his instruction, but he's also got some hellacious and unacknowledged privilege on his side.

  • This is a profoundly important point. I see it all of the time in many situations. It's very common, actually. It's privilege blindness.

  • It is nothing amazing my friend. He is using the law of attraction to T and goes for it.

All U need is belief and visualize the end result consistently before it happens.

There is so much fun in it.Its worth trying

  • @djymm

I understand the point, but I have witnessed (as have you and anyone else here) people given the greatest amount of privilege who have less to offer than your average janitor. Privilege doesn't equal success. It takes no skill or passion or talent to inherit money.

On the other hand, some who seemingly have nothing and aren't expected to perform (and certainly not to any high level) have become the best.

It boils down to taking advantage of opportunities in your path more than anything.

  • he must be amazing at his job..

    this guy is very talented

  • Sorry about the poor grammar lol

  • Even though he comes across as bit too selfcentered and arrogant he makes a valid point. By studying and recearching different learning tools many things can possible that one often finds diffucult to master. There's nothing revolutionary about his speech, but he gives an empovering example about the possibility to learn something new at any age. Hey you don't have to like the guy to get something out of him. Conclusion is that often self doubt takes too much away from our potential.

  • Aww, it's not really about the hulk! So whaddya gonna do? Throw a bunch of insults at this guy? Grow up.

This was a good talk, he's making himself a living example of what life is about: adaptation.

And the work he's doing on reform/revolutionizing our school systems is crucial.

  • I wish then had been the other Tim Ferris...I'd rather hear about cosmology!

  • So swimming is all about form yet the lesson he learned from learning language "is it's not how you do it but what you do"?????

He doesn't realize he's just highly motivated and that's all there is to it. Poor people who pay him to lecture them on how to do things.

  • I taught myself to swim as a child, this guy is a moron. His parents should have stopped him from acting out now he thinks he's profound when in fact he's a balding clown.

  • @nilbud - "Acting out"? You mean, uh, being a kid?

  • Yeah like shitting in a diaper and sucking your mothers tits.

  • @nilbud - Where's all this hostility coming from?

  • I reckon it's because you're a bully and anyone or any fact which you don't agree with prompts these outbursts. I'm no expert though so you may need professional help.

  • @nilbud - You're projecting. :)

  • yeah i agree, he thinks hes so good - whats he done ? blah...

  • he's learned how to learn things extremely well..

    thats awesome

  • These TED talks are so inspiring, that sometimes I don't want to read any of the comments below in case some idiot skeptic has undermined the talk.

  • lol and ya i am very glad i found this channel truly valuable stuff.

  • Why bother with facts when you've been conned USA No. 1!!

  • i liked that video..good speaker

  • On another note he does seem to talk about himself awfully lot in 3rd person.
