I dislike Dave a little less after this. I always thought he was a little pompous but hearing him speak candidly about something so personal changes my opinion a little. Also, Krist's remark about still looking for left handed guitars after he died made me really sad... sometimes it takes a few seconds to remember someone is gone when you see something that makes you think of them.
It's powerful living so close to Nirvana's early roots (Olympia), being a college student at the very campus that they used to frequent so often (The Evergreen State College). Krist's interview reinforces for me the history that surrounds where I now live and the energy that was there. It's powerful, sad and yet inspiring.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard Curt died. I happened to be visiting Disney World and a busboy in a restaurant told me. Probably because I was wearing a Nirvana shirt. All the blood drained out of my face.
I remember, later that day, telling "Goofy" to fuck off because Curt Cobain just died.
Keep in mind that the Foo Fighters started out as Dave's own music. Kurt always told him that the solo stuff he wrote was good. I think he made the band cuz he knew Kurt woulda wanted him to.
@killerpanda321123 It was obvious that the band was falling abart, and I think he said that because there were so many other solutions besides what he did. and Krist does think he killed himself, he said so.
@vr4runner He was offered a position when the band first formed, but he turned it down because he thought people would compare it to nirvana and say they (foo fighters) were a rip off
@vr4runner dave wanted to create a totally new band with foo fighters. he and krist believed that if both of them were in it, it'd just be seen as a nirvana tribute band.
@vr4runner "me and krist would have bee great, it would have felt reallt atural and right for them, but it wouldtbe right for ayoe else." -dave grohl some kinda interview
it seems to me that people focus too much on the lead singers or frontmen, or the best looking one. they are usually the most marketable and therefore the most mainstream, and when they go away people notice that right away (kurt cobain, craig owens, ryan McCombs, etc.) its taboo for them to keep playin
@vr4runner also imagine if the beatles kept playing after lennon got shot. imagine he jimi hendrix experience after sept 18th 1970, or imagine the smaller things like the chiodos lead singer leaving or casey calvert dying (screamer for hawthorne heights). just wouldnt have been OK for the masses, too many critics would be on that
and thats a huge thing for kurt, was the feriosity of the media/ bad publicity making lies about hima nd courtney.
@100Lavender Bands have replaced lead singers and moved on. I think that comparing Cobain to Lennon or Hendrix is pushing it a little far. He was good and had he lived as long as Lennon had, who knows where he would have gone. Hendrix, will always stand alone, he was amazing and proved his talent beyond all doubts, in his short time. I like Nirvana and I think that Cobain was a talented and possibly iconic person but I also think the burn out potential was there, as well.
I don't think comparing Cobain to Lennon and Hendrix is pushing it a little too far. And Hendrix DID burn out.
So did Lennon from 1973 to 1979. He recorded almost nothing.
"Nevermind" changed the WHOLE music (and fashion) game in one year.
Nirvana SINGLE HANDEDLY revolutionized American popular music in 1991.They killed off a million Sunset Strip bands.Suddenly everyone cut their hair and bought flannel shirts. Record company hacks scoured Seattle for the next Curt Cobain.
@elstonnancy I won't say Cobain was the most talented guy on earth... he was good... but besides his music there was something else about him that made people follow him, the guy just had an aura and a philosophy that somehow seemed honest, people just loved that, well I did.
@elstonnancy.......... you're right, comparing Lennon to Cobain is pushing it..Cobain had more talent in his little finger than Lennon had in his entire body
@thedayafterone yeah, I think dave shot him a glance at that one, haha. I think taylor is just the guy they all pet, and give him a cookie if he will be good and quiet.
@The13hhour1 I think he (Krist) is referring to the way the media and the fans heap posthumous praise on a celebrity to the extent that they are raised to the level of deities. Obviously I can't speak for Kurt, but I think he'd resent that sort of nonsense.
Krist might be a mediocre bassist, but he's extremely bright. I love hearing his interviews on music...not so much politics, because we're on opposite sides of the spectrum.
You can tell that neither Krist nor Dave really want to talk about it - Krist especially - and I don't blame them. The death of your best friend, plus a terrible media storm of conspiracy theories is enough to make anyone hate the world.
But for Dave and Krist to carry on making music - and to make it together for Foo's new album - for me is fantastic. They conquered their ultimate fear of being involved in something their friend was. There aren't many people I respect more than Dave and Krist.
its so sad watching and listening to krist it feels like he really misses those days and is still really saddened about the death of his friend and band. shame it ended how it did
@WMsandKFCisBackMOFOs I thought for a little while that maybe Kurt did get murdered because of all the evidence like the signs of forgery in the note and no finger print on the trigger and the amounts of poison in his blood but I mean if you really listen to his songs and look at him... I think you can just tell that he did it himself.
@ragingmouse123 Ya I wasn't sure but I've done a lot of research and there's recordings of her giving a lot away. She says "the people I paid" and stuff. What a bitch.
Heres more for your research in case you didnt find this out.In a phone recording, she was talking to the private investigater she hired and she also said "i could sell alot of albums off of this" .Those may not be the exact words but very close to that. She probably wanted to sell albums using Kurts death, making her even more of a fucking bitch.
3 days ago, one of my friends was gone. and now I can grab a similar feeling of krist. also dave's. so I can understand why some people said "don't talk about the kurt's death."
@RebelThoughts Hey Krist is still making music. He actually worked with the Foo Fighters right after Kurt's death, then he joined the band Flipped for awhile as their bassist, and now for the new upcoming Foo Fighters album I heard Krist would be playing bass for them too.
Whether or not Kurt was or wasn't infatuated with death, or his own death...doesn't mean, nobody else has ever had those thoughts. Some people don't see a way around things...everyone has dark thoughts. Anyone who says, Kurt was a moron, is right and wrong...and a hypocrit at the sametime. The good thing is, you didn't take it to that extremity.

This vid got me cryin. It's just sad, because Krist and Kurt were such great friends for such a long time. It's very sad when something like that ends so tragically.
I read a lot of the comments on here and there are a lot of great ones, I agree Kurt probably had never conceived the thought of how commercial his music and band would become, much less how huge he would be. For the boys in the band that had to be torture too, then losing a band member and more importantly a friend by his own hands, only to see his image propped up EVERYWHERE and seeing your dead friend regarded as a legend with the likes of Jim, Joplin and Hendrix. Krist and Dave were mourni
@rikki444 don't talk like that, it's just depressing. Things wouldn't have worked out the way they did if he was still alive, but at least be happy that he's respected by most people regardless of whether they're "jock types" or not.
@DavythePirate It's actually the opposite, to me. Dave is now playing the IDEA of "rock n' roll." He's got studios to deal with, a family life, he's eloquent, he's moved on etc. Krist is still living on a farm near Seattle, still kind of the same person he was in 1991. You can just tell. Krist is more genuinely rock n roll, he has less control over his presentation.... Krist is and always will be grunge.
Poor Kurt. For some reason i doubt his music being a choice on 'Guitar Hero' for pop fans to jam alongside in order to feel a little bit cool was what he had planned. He also probably didnt expect that highschool jock types would one day be walking around in his bands sweatshirts as a retro statement. *sigh*.. the irony of it all kills worse than courtney love with a shotgun and a spare set of green house keys...
wow krist looks like more like a philosopher now

So you guys know there's a 1993 Sharon Stone movie called Sliver? That's probably where Kurt got the song from..... (Don't respond, I'm kidding)

I have to say, Dave looks alot more rock'n'roll than kris does :L

@DavythePirate Krist is in politics now, dave is still in 'rock n roll'

@DavythePirate Have kurt ever look rock n roll in the first place?
guilhermecarneiro1 1 year ago
