This song is about a dying monk on the Skellig Islands off the coast of Kerry, Ireland. Monks copied holy texts on the Skilligs during the dark ages. They are very isolated islands. A Gaelic monastery was founded at the summit of Skellig Michael in the 7th century.  The Skelligs have a history going back to Irish Celtic mythology. It is a very haunting place and this is a very haunting song.

Skellig is my favorite of all of the work of the Loreena Mckennitt musicians and the blend of scenes here with this music is superb. Of course, there's a true gift here even if it was just the music. One can close one's eyes, just listen and be transported to a personal mystical place. To those who have not heard this music before I hope you appreciate this beautiful and sensitive offering to eyes and ears.

hmm... interesting... one would not question using Enya for perfect soundtrack for LOTR... until... until we remember Loreena... who seems yet better, more perfect choice for this movie. Her songs are more like legend telling ... while Enya is more on a fantasy side.
