The whisper was a mistake made during recording. The recording engineers tried to delete a verse that Plant had sung @ 1:41. But, there was some residual sound left over that carried through to the final cut.

They never fixed the mistake. So, it can be heard on copies from the only album this song was used on. That was Led Zepplins debut album. Led Zepplin 1.
