Rather make it into a linux server at this rate, but as for the error, it was only active desktop probably because he hasn't plugged it in in so long. ME wasn't even all that unstable I had it for years before I upgraded to XP. Only thing it lacked was real DOS, which sucked cuz i still had a lot of games like eye of the beholder i liked to play.

@2345geno Windows 7 is not that good. And Vista doesn't suck, but it sucks if you don't have SP1 or higher on it.

I am going to be the odd one out and say that I actually like Windows Me. I just like the interface and the way it works. Also, since I have a Windows Me computer that I don't use for every day stuff, I like the glitches and the crashes. But I don't like it when I have to use that computer as a spare.

I got the generic computer (home made PCs) with Windows XP last 5 years ago. Last year, my old computer didn't turn on to the power button even changing the power system inside the CPU so I got my Vista Home Basic PC from Acer (Upgraded to NOT Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate) abd it stays new but the Windows 7 that my brother installed is NOT Genuine (I got black wallpaper and the watermark on the right-bottom corner of the screen "Windows 7 Built 7600 This copy of Windows is not Genuine")

I still have an old Gateway Computer (circa early 2001) that runs Windows Me. Unfortunately, the computer only shows a blank screen and a few beep codes. That computer is now junk as I currently have a Dell Computer that runs Win7 (Used to run WinXP.)

Lol my cousin's Windows ME pc has that "Active Desktop" error too. My Windows XP computer used to do that so I just disabled it :P

It's Like XP but it's much much faster.

If you do read this post decide to do it and still have that machine just be sure to use a good AV that will support it and not some piece of shit like Norton/Kasperky/Mcafee. lol

It wont run smooth untill it gets about 512 mb ram and 733mhz pentium lll or higher

Windows XP should be able to install on that normally.

If it does not boot from the CD to install Windows XP, then first boot into Windows ME, and then pop in the Windows XP disc. You can then go through a simple menu to either upgrade (to keep your files and settings) or a fresh install (your hard drive will be wiped out).

Well shortly after this video I got the disk to boot without booting Windows ME, then I did something (can't remember) and now theres no OS on it and I can't get the disk to boot. ??? :S

That's... weird. Check your BIOS settings. If they are all set correctly too, take it to a computer shop.

@sassySQ123 Install Windows 2000. Make boot diskettes, insert the CD and the first diskette, wait and... it will install... but you must get the right drivers -_- after install.

@sassySQ123 ok first 1GHz is fast and i doubt that a computer like the one pictured is 1GHz it is most likely around 333MHz to 800MHz and a computer with 30 gb and 512 is allright it should load windows xp no problem for a computer that old you need an 8bit operating system. 32bit wont work neither will 64 bit the highest it may load is win 2000

1. 1ghz is really slow

2. an 8-bit OS?!?!?!?!?! the computer is not from the early 70's

3. 32-bit WILL work on almost any computer from 1995+

4. windows 2000 is 32-bit

5. that computer could run windows 7 (if BIOS is ACPI compatible) but just really slowly

@WitchOnBroomstick123 Well, it is always nice to keep your first computer or old computer in it's origional condition. Reminds you of when you were young. I wish I still had my first computer. It crashed and my parents didn't know what to do, so they just recycled it :( I miss it so dearly :(
