  • I'd say sand is fine as long as you don't feed them on it.

  • I would only use sand on adult beardies only I've kept my dragons on rep carpet til they're about 7 months babies are just more sensitive and adults can handle ingesting some better. And I hand feed my dragons so the risk of impaction is reduced.

  • i use sand,i also use repti carpet sometimes, but i think i'm going to tile soon,it seems like it would be easier to keep really clean.

  • First off all sand is good for your bearded dragon u fools!!

  • Oh my god, I hate how people hear desert and they automatically think sand. Did u know that antartica is a desert? No sand there. Bearded dragon live mostly on hard compacted soil, semi desert regions and go to brushy areas to eat they're greens an insects. Don't believe me, research it, read a book about them. Go to an expert about the species.

  • you love the COCK FAGGOT

  • you look like heid for that 70s show

  • i personly think sand is a higer risk to take but it is much easer to clean just sift out the bad sand and its all good, ive had the reptile carpet and it is do hard to clean i try to pick the poop up with a paper towle and i just smoosh it in to the carpet so it really never gets clean

  • idk what all the fuss for using sand for your beardies, like i know it can imapct them so people use carpet and tile but i never really got that, because dragons live in the dessert and mildly hot climates and most of it is sand and they eat their food thier no problem so idk i have mine on sand but i never feed her in it

  • Shut up Andy Dick.

  • Mine lives in the sand and does perfectly fine. His food doesn't get very sandy when it's in there and the way he eats doesn't get sand in his mouth. I think it just might be bad for very young ones.

  • Hey everybody I have a 3 month old bearded dragon; when should I start using sand? because I use the reptile carpet which works fine for Chicago (my dragon), however the crickets just crawl under it somehow and its difficult for him to catch them on his own. I help him get them but he prefers to hunt them himself and I'm starting school in a month (with a chance of catching senioritus) so I will not have time to help him constantly..

  • i use sand and it only impacts tem if u feed them on it... feed them crix in a bowl... then they cant get impacted... the reason people use sand is because beardies dig and if u use carpet it will lead to bent toes because it isnt loose and dragons do not get impacted in australia!!! australian desets sand r mixed with soil and gravel if u see beardies eating substrate that means u arent giving him enough calcium and ur beardie is looking for calcium

  • i think if you use sand for flooring. it can get on his food and when he eats it hel get a mouth full of sand and that could make him sick. i use non toxic wood chips they work just fine.

  • woooo led zepplin lol

my beardie is on reptile carpet

  • I'm not trying to tell people to use sand, but me and my dad's friend has been breeding beardiesfor over 25 years, using sand for every beardy he has ever had. He has never had a single problem, and neither have I with my beardies.

  • hey i have juve dragons and i want to change it to sand should i

  • even in the wild beardies stay away from sand

  • there desert cretures!!! they pretty much live in sand and spend alot of the day n the sand and in trees

  • my bearded dragon used woodchip i meant at the beggining.

  • My bearded dragon used sand when he was younger but now hes older he can use sand. i f you beardie licks around there tank DONT USE SAND OR CRUSHED NUTS and if their young DONT USE SAND OR CRUSHED NUTS.If your bearded dragon deosnt lick around and isnt under a year old then it should be fine. And its a very good idea to feed them by habd or in a seperate tank. i do it!

  • i have used non toxic wood chips for my beardie his entire life and it works justcfin :P

  • Like i think beardies in wilds live on sand dirt whatever but they still die from impaction!

If your going to keep it as a pet use tile, repticarp something that they wont eat and cant digest, i mean its cool if u use sand but, maybe in the long run they will intend to build up an impaction!

  • desertsnow is the best, its like papery mulch. No dust, it clumps, and they can digest it.

  • BULL CRAP sand and especially crushed wallnuts is fine for beardies....i personally know about 3 bearded drgon owners that have had their beardies for over 6 years on crushed wallnut and they're fine. I have never tried sand but if anyone has and u know any good kinds please msg me.

  • Dude its not for the most part.

  • yes I use repti-sand, and my beardie has been on it his whole life and he is perfectly fine

  • Can someone please tell the owner of this video "How to setup a Bearded Dragon Tank" that calci sand is bad for your beardie and other lizards. Ive said about it 3 times already and he is still not listening to me and is telling others to use calci sand. Im not moaning about him using it im just worried for his own and others beardies lives.

  • I agree with what you are saying but it comes down too a personal chocie I've never had any promblems with my dragons.

I wouldn't recomend it for young bearded dragons because there so curiuos but for older ones it's not too bad but personal choice is wahat it comes down too good video

  • dick head

  • never EVER use sand for any reptiles..its like smoking for them..it slowly kills them (its not bad for snakes if you feed it in a different enclosure)..i mean..if you guys keep you beardie on sand well..you obviously dont know much..sure they live on sand in the wild..they probably die of impaction to...just like feeding live to your reptiles..so inhumain

  • u can keep your dragons in sad just make sure u feed them in a different tank like i do i keep him in sand but every feed is in a separate tank or by hand so he wont get inpactions

  • If it aint broke don't fix it!

  • I know when i got my BD he was already on sand and doesn't eat it as far as i know. people who use tile do so because they want to keep their BD safe, i want mine to be safe but i also want it to be happy and in a more natural environment, that's sand not tile and for every1 who says they don't live on sand in the wild? well that bull, they live on sand in some areas and for all those who believe they live on clay.. use that then not tiles. I'm going to keep using sand.

  • I like the new type of calci-sand that I bought, this stuff is great because in the case of any impaction, all you need to do is make them drink some water as its water soluble. It will dissolve the impaction plus the benefit of no calcium dusting, easier cleaning and more similar to their habitat. I wouldnt trust any other loose substrates though because an impaction is pretty much a death sentence if it cant be dissolved without surgury.

  • Your right I agree.. tile repticarpet newspaper paper towels and non adhesive shelf liner are best for use easy to clean easy to replace.. NO risks at all unlike crushed walnuts, calci-sand , play sand ect which can hold bacteria even if your scooping out all the dragons droppings ect.

  • Agreed. Sand is arguably from their natural environment, but, combat that logic with the fact that domesticated beardies do not have the entire continent of australia to run around and be active to aid the sand to pass through their system.

we cover this topic in our show, thank you for putting this out there.

  • thanks

and i guess thanks for favoriting the vid lol

  • @LoveYourBeardie Sand is not the only thing. Compact dirt. Ect.

  • She has been kickin her paper around and makin a mess.. I was just thinking of building her a bigger cage and was going to use tile flooring, so it's great that I saw this, thanks a lot!

  • hey!

i'm glad your beardie is doing much better since you took her to the vet!

    glad i helped : ]

  • Hey man, ur right. When my BD was young, I kept her on paper towel.. When was almost 2 years old, my cousin told me to use sand cause he said she would do better in it.. She got badly impacted and could even look aroumd.. just stared straight ahead.. We got her to the vet and they luckily saved her, they said if we were any later, she would have died.. They told me to put paper towel or newspaper back in and said we were doing the right thing at first.. Now she's doin great..

  • ok wana fight nigger

  • sure. lets do it via internet where no injuries are possible! hooray for no chance of pain!

    god you're an idiot.

  • wana fight fucktard

  • ur a fucking dick you look gay like chris crocker

  • does that really matter?

i think you must be gay.

after all you have commented on this video a number of times.

  • yea well my mom put it in i still feel little bit un safe but she payed 250$ for it all but he has licked it and if he doesnt poop today im gunnna put repti carpet in.

  • yea well my mom put it in i still feel little bit un safe but she payed 250$ for it all but he has licked it and if he doesnt poop today im gunnna put repti carpet in.

  • 250$ dollars for sand?

what did you get it shipped across the world? lol.

i understand how you feel. they can digest their food, its the sand that collects over time and ends up blocking the largeintestine.

  • awsome vid man i totaly understand what you mean im the same way but today i bought this vita-sand i read it all everything is cool with it it had vitamans and can digest just fine its also (Veterinarian Approved) and hes doing awsome with it he loves to sleep in it but besides that awsome vid and make some more on beardies we like it keep up the good work my friend!

  • thanks!

i still dont even like that vita sand stuff.

  • wtf i could not get a clue what your saying. you sould like a spaz dick

  • do you want to understand what i'm saying?

and i don't have a clue what you are saying in your second sentence.

  • do you want to understand what i'm saying?

and i don't have a clue what you are saying in your second sentence.

  • wtf what are you on about you look like a dick

  • if you don't know what mean, then it probably doesn't concern you.

and i've seen myself before. dont think i look like one.

  • I find corn cob a great substrate. Not as grainy as sand and they spit it out if they get some in their mouths. I have 2 beardies, Draco and Spyro. We dont give them pinkies, but they adore locusts and hoppers. Spyro even consents to lay her eggs in the corn cob.

  • hopper mice?

mice shouldnt be fed unless your female has just laid and is recovering.

  • i think he means grassHOPPERS... w/e

  • wana fight

  • Nobody wants to fight you because that means that we'll be touched by you.(gvbownz)

  • why are you acting tough behind a keyboard? You're a pussy.

  • ur crazy

  • huh?

  • ur a no it all nob

  • ok?

ive kept them for 5 years man.

id rather not argue with you.

  • what was that all about. some people have the nerve. im talkinto gvbownz.

  • great video great information! i use tiles and non particle substrates as well

  • It's best to user Ceramic Tiles and 2nd best is the ZooMed repti-carpet.

I'm currently setting up a Bearded Dragon vivarium and I've gone for slate tiles :)

    Good information!

  • sounds like a great enclosure!

  • excuse me but wat do u mean by "impaction"?

  • impaction is when particles of some sort of material cause rupture in the intestines, and health problems, maybe even death.

  • hey, i was wondering if millet seed would work too

  • i dont use any loose substrate. this includes millets.

  • but they would make so much noise when they walk on it

  • i dont get any noise off of my tile.

and either way, the noise doesnt matter when your dragon is safer and in a cleaner enviornment

  • what just tiles?

  • yep

  • i use crushed walnut shel wich is smal enough to pass through them. i have reasearchd into crushed walnut shell and it does not cause impaction as far as i can find. could you check out my videos ov my beardies and tell me what you think.

  • i see your videos and have subscribed.

i do not agree with your reasoning but am happy to watch your videos.

  • cheers m8. i will imform you i any are hurt by this problem and if so will stop using the loose substrate. what alternative would you sugest bearing in mind i would like the same kind ov look. i will subscribe to your videos aswel.

  • well like i said in my videos, i keep my animals in the safest way possible.

so therefore if something ever did happen even though you dont think it will wouldnt you feel terrible?

    i use tile.

its safer to use, easy to clean and holds the heat radiation of the light at night.

  • yo dude, i like your clip if you want to know how to give your bearded dragon a bath type in karate140 or give your bearded dragon a bath, then comment me then tell your family and freinds from karate140.......please

  • I agree!
