I completely disagree with your release method. Squirrels need a release cage from which to be released. They get to know the sights, smells and sounds of the environment into which they will be released. If you release them in this manner they have no place to go back to for comfort, food and shelter. It has been my experience with many hundreds released that the most successful way is a soft release where they can return until they are ready to be on their own. A hard release is just wrong
Great thing you did saving these guys. Just not sure I agree with the release. In my workings with orphaned squirrels...they need to be placed in a release cage outside to become accustomed to their surroundings and learn from the other squirrels in the area.
