  • And i'm pretty sure the songwriting royalties that made Bruce millions of dollars had him loving the hell out of Manfred Mann's version too...; )

  • The Manfred Mann Earth Band performed the song like it was an original release....No disrespect to Bruce & the E street band, but Bruce's version ( the original ) comes across as an Interpretation of how Bob Dylan would have done it

  • one of his best. i have no problem w/ the quality neither. it needed to be done.

  • I think the fact that every comment on this video is about manfred's cover, positive or negative, shows that manfred won..

  • criticizing Springsteen's voice is akin to complaining about Mozart's brush. Get over yourself.

  • @dmsfree LOL. Well put.

I do not understand why people get so much invested into who's is best. I like Manfred Mann's version much better than this one but why make a big deal over it? I someone likes The Boss more then so be it.

    One can like both.

As an example I will say that "Turn The Page" is two on my favorite songs ever.

  • I like this longer version than Manfredd Manns :)

  • I Love this song and more specifically prefer this version over Manfred Manns cover...still looking for a high quality version though -__-

  • @MusiqMan127 You can find one on the right hand side? Lol

  • @MusiqMan127 your choice maybe because its orig by bruce but idk manfreds sounds so much better

  • yer trippin bruce is a cool singer

  • for a guy that cant sing, let me see now he's won 20 Grammy's , 1 Academy award,

2 Golden Globes, and 1 Emmy, gee, not bad for a dude like Bruce to not know how to sing, or maybe write a good song. and dont forget put Manfred Mann's Earth Band on the Map of Rock and Roll Fame. Dream on!

  • @csny19691 Manfred Mann were a UK covers band and so they owed their success to creating more "commercial" versions of other people's songs. This was covered by them in 1977 - they had much earlier success - in 1964 they had the No 1 spot in the US with a cover of "Do Wa Diddy" - so you can't possibly say that Bruce put them on the map.

  • @csny19691 yes, reference the awards he's earned in the highly political entertainment biz, that'll sure change my opinion, lol. if those awards meant anything then they wouldn't be so controversial every year.

  • Hate to say it but Manfred Mann does Bruce Springsteen better than Bruce Springsteen ! And has one hell of a better voice .

  • I wonder how many other Bruce Springsteen songs we can improve?? ALL of them!!!!! Sorry, Bruce!!! You are a GREAT songwriter--

  • I'm actually not a very big Springsteen fan but I've gotta say this is my favorite song of his, and I believe it is far superior to that Manfred Mann version. I think this song needs the funky swing to it, and Bruce's rapid fire delivery works better with the lyrics that no one really understands anyway. One thing about the Manfred version that I really love though is the effects laden guitar solo, but then the "chopsticks" part later in the song makes me cringe and change the radio station.

  • we all know BRUCEs career is gold, manfred will never ever be able to hold a Candle to bruce over a lifetime, but just this one time,,, manfred holds the crown,, even if its only for a single song,,, give them their day in the sun,, cause they knocked it out of the park, and even bruce will admit it,,,,, although bruce is still the BOSS

  • gotta say, bruce is one hell of a song writer, but that bastard just can not sing that good at all. it's better than most better on planet earth, but it definitely doesn't live up to his song writing or fame. fantastic song though, especially when manfred manns earth band absolutely created one of the greatest recordings on the history of music! i HATE keyboards in 70's and 80's music, but their use in this song was absolutely perfect!

  • @RyTrapp0 Yea man I know Bruce's voice is shakey but you don't get guys like him these days!

  • @RockNRolla1996 His voice might be shakey & raw, but it's pure, emotional & honest. Not like today's "singers", all processed, digitized, electronically auto-tuned/harmonized, ie ALTERED, etc. 1 thing he does have that NO machine can duplicate, (at least not yet) is his unique accent, & diction, & also his tone/tonal quality.

  • @gjc82071 Your right brother!

  • @RockNRolla1996 LOL nowadays you get singers that can't sing well and are helped out by the "music machine" aka the music industry and all it's electronics and machines and techniques and spin. Springsteen can sing his signature sound well. He's not from the pop machine; not manufactured.

  • @RyTrapp0

Bruce's voice may not be that polished, but this song, sung by him, is a perfect example of the ridiculous raw energy that is present in most of his songs from the 70s. The rambling, nonsensical lyrics he wrote(that none the less told a story), plus the depth of feeling he showed when he sang made him great. His best music, best lyrics and best singing, in my opinion.

  • @lollielass

You're right, he's a great singer and songwriter... But his lyrics are far from nonsensical...

  • @RyTrapp0

I don't think there's a problem with his singing, I think the flaw is your perception in what good singing really is.

  • @ChrisnSnoop you know, i considered that, but then i found that there are a lot of people that happen to agree with me. statistically speaking, your statement is unlikely to be true :P

  • @RyTrapp0 douchebag

  • @RyTrapp0 fucking douche

  • @RyTrapp0 u fuckhole

  • @funkengruvenful lmao, i'm sorry, did i offend you? you gonna go cry? my apologies, but my opinion - in the public arena that is the internet - stands.

  • @RyTrapp0 Wrong. Bruce is one of the best vocalists. His voice is pure emotion.

  • @ohcalcutta81 thank you for stating this fact, as i had not known it was one before this comment

  • Oh Crap, I stii love it

  • LP vinyl... skips at 0:53... running too fast (yo, pitchy, dog..).... why bother?

  • @steve66oh Yea man I know haha... why not?! I always like it vinyl. And this LP has been used since like 1973 so it's been around. I just thought it would be cool just to put up all the vinyls... kinda like a blast to the past with bad quality(: Hahaha!

  • @RockNRolla1996

It definitely sounds like you need to adjust the turntable speed, its going a little too fast. Its why I like my AC motor belt driven table. Perfect speeds for the life of the motor as long as the belt doesn't stretch.

  • thats when he was appealing.

  • Wow.Springsteen has a Dylanesque ability to write songs that he can't play well.No wonder even some of his biggest fans have never heard his pre-Born To Run work.

P.S.: Did this come from a bad copy,or did someone hold a tape recorder up to the speaker while an old LP played?

  • @Syddric Yea man, it's LP, vinyl sorry for quality

  • @Syddric wrote: "Springsteen has a Dylanesque ability to write songs that he can't play well."

If it's safe to assume that that applies to singing as well as instruments, it's the best music commentary I've heard or read in years. Years, I tell you.

  • manfred mann's version is wayyyy better!

  • @zero10689 But this is where he got it from man. Give Bruce some props ;D Hahaha

  • @zero10689 Like Bruces better he says " Deuce " Coupe Car.. !
