If I'm the first person that you've ever heard say that, then my suggestion to you would be to either read up more on Rakim to find out just exactly what he means. If I'm the first person that you've ever heard say that, then my suggestion to you would be to either read up more on Rakim to find out just exactly what he means. Hell, listen to the "Paid In Full" album. You'll be amazed at the stuff that you hear on that album that other rappers took and bit off. Hooks, lines, samples, etc. Then look at the artists Rakim has inspired. Buckshot, Nas, Wu-Tang, Canibus, Black Thought, Common,and yes.... 2Pac himself has ADMITTED that Ra inspired him.

Nas for sure. Pac is great but a bit overrated by some, He was NOT the greatest of all time. That distinction belongs to the likes of KRS, Rakim, Kane, Mel, Caz, Kool Moe Dee, etc.
Nas was just more talented and skilled. Pac had that incredible passion and charisma though. But he could not touch Nas's mic skills.
