  • Good performance. Too bad the audio doesn't do it justice.

  • Great team effort!

  • Hey, thanks for your positive comment! This was for my exam and getting that many men together to sing with me was hard work but they were all so wonderful and dedicated that it was a true pleasure to sing with them!!

  • In des Dunkels nächtger HÜLLE!!!! Nicht "Stille"

  • both is correct, "Stille" (silence) and "Hülle" (cover). There are simply two versions. Terry Wey (Vienna Boys Choir) always sings "Stille" as well Juliane Banse (Vienna Soprano Choir) performs "Hülle".

  • amazing!

extremelly difficult piece... keep with good work :D

  • Not if German is your mother tongue ;-)

  • German is NOT my mothertongue, howeer, this recording is from a few years ago and since then ...... I've been taking German lesons!!!!!!!!!

  • good job!

    I absolutely love it! =)

  • I'm not a singer, but I play music...damn good job.

  • We did this peice for the mens honor choir my senior year in South Dakota back in the summer of 2003. I believe it was close to 40 men? perhaps more and one female soloist, and it was amazing! I am not a fan of this song done by only this few number, BUT excellant job boy the vocalists and the pianist!

  • Thanks for your comment.I sang this years ago for an exam and I found it really hard because I hadn't sung much German. At the time of I was really proud of what I had achieved. Now, a few years later with a new vocal coach and new technique I cringe listening to myself but I don't want to remove it from u-tube because singing is such a learning experience that I think it's good to hear what I thought was "great" at the time and now know that I have improved since! I love comments like yours ..

  • I think this was written for an alto and 16 women's voices. I do not wish to appear harsh but this version is a travesty of what it should sound like. The technical recording too does not do this glorious work justice but it was a student performance so allowances must be made. It needs well rehearsed women's voices or choir boys and then it is magical and spine tingling.

  • You are harsh. It was NOT written for 16 women's voices - no one writes for "16 women's voices" and least of all schubert who wrote for whatever was the occasion - the Esterchazies in this occasion, and there were not 16 of them - should imagine three as per the video.

They ALL sing well, the mezzo is GREAT and the odd intonation in the choir is minor, normal at any conservatoire; the only travesty is your unkind comment especailly given your clear ignorance of the background to this piece.

  • JanetteHeffernan:.... i should also add: first class accompanist as well (minor errors on 4:33 and 5:28 so what), often overseen - here her role is vital in keeping everyone together and driving the rythm - while hiding in the background. its clear that the choir is made of people on the verge of a solo singing career and probably with voices far better than in most "16-member choirs" male, female or whatever.

  • Schubert had, basing on a misunderstanding between him and the client, Miss Fröhlich, the "Ständchen" composed for a men's choir with an Alt-solo-voice and a few days later he composed a new version for girl's choir with mezzo-soprano!

Both versions are lovely but I personally prefer women!

  • all state mens choir did this a few years back it was nice to hear it again

  • Thank you Kirsty et al. Great! :-)

  • Das ist ebenfalls ein Ständchen von Schubert. Er hat mehr als nur eins geschrieben. Aber das andere ist natürlich bekannter.

  • So beautifully done! Thank you for posting it!^__^

  • bien pero me gusta más la versión de los niños cantores de Viena.

  • I've also been deeply moved by them, the Vienna Boys' Choir, singing this song in concert. The clear, silvery treble solo voice was just out of this world!

  • That was nice... One problem: that's REALLY not Schubert's Stänchen!

  • this IS Franz Schubert's Ständchen

  • Of course it is Schubert's Ständchen. You are probably confused because he wrote another song in one of his cycles by the same name.

  • wath is the lyric of this song?

  • The lyric of this Ständchen D 920, was composed in 1827 by Franz Grillparzer:

  • Zögernd leise in des Dunkels nächt'ger Stille sind wir hier;

Und den Finger sanft gekrümmt, leise, leise,

Pochen wir an des Liebchens Kammerthür.

    Doch nun steigend, schwellend, hebend

  • And the other famous Ständchen mentioned by LizetteBaguette, and with which andywilson0 might have gotten confused is D 957, a very famous Stänchen from Schubert´s song cycle "Schwanengesang". The lyric goes like:"Leise Flehen meine Lieder durch die Nacht zu dir..." Schubert composed the song based on this poem by Ludwig Rellstab.

Hope these would help a bit.:-)

  • I agree with you andywilson0! This is not the version I am familiar with - Franz Schubert's Ständchen (Serenade),

"Leise flehen meine Lieder durch die Nacht zu dir,

In den stillen Hain hernieder Liebchen kommm zu mir...etc."

Perhaps this is part of the Schwanengesang (Swan Song) collection that I skipped :).

  • wow very beautiful!! I also love the way you sang che faro senza euridyce!

  • thank you!!!!

  • Very, very good. Not as easy as it sounds so well done!!!
