well I've driven from columbus ohio to portland oregon, to seattle, to chicago (a few times), plus numerous trips to cincinatti and cleveland... pittsburgh, western NY... been all over.
Hey man, i own a 2008 wrx with the oil supply leaking pretty bad. Im still waiting on the part to come in. My doesnt make any noise at all, but the oil is leaking on the exhaust and smoking, but no noise like that. I would be pissed if my car was doing that
lol yeah i thought the same thing, but the thing is, i made an appointment last tuesday at 2 aclock for the recall. They called at ten till and told me they didnt even have the part, i was pullin in when they called. They looked at it and confirmed it was the recall and said its nothing to worry about and sent me on my way, so the way i figure oil burning+recall+shitty service+fire= new car
they shouldn't have scheduled a service when they didn't even have the part... sounds like another dealer screwup. good luck... I hope your car doesn't catch on fire.
i just bought an 05 wrx with 47k miles. iv never owned one before or any turbo car. you have any sugestions i should do to help maintain the car??? and can this little mesh filter be changed???
yeah dude, ive owned two wrx's now bugeye wrx and the new wrx's265. i take my subaru to subaru. dnt bring it in to any other shop there very technical vehicles and the mechanics at subaru work on them all day = experience. im not sure how you feel about ur 05 wrx, but with my bugeye it was getting old and i still brought it to subaru 120xxx miles. Caution when the turbo spins the bulshit ends. enjoy your car!!!
Yeah, put nothing but fully synthetic oil (Mobil 1 for example) into ANY turbo car's engine. My experience with Subarus is that regular aftermarket auto store parts just won't fit/work properly. Except for the occasionly belt or hose, I use only Subaru parts.
most parts on a subaru are made by other companies... I mean outside of the engine, things from belts to the plastics to electrical components, all made elsewhere.
as for Mobil1 -- it shears at high temperatures and is generally considered junk oil. it isn't even fully synthetic, it is conventional oil that has been processed to be a little cleaner. I've only ever used Amsoil (signature series) and Shell Rotella-T in my turbo cars.
@asaturn Maybe something has changed with Mobil 1 over the years. It was introduced around 1975 when I was a kid, and I've rarely if ever heard anything bad about it. I've always read that it was fully synthetic. I think it's even recommended by Porsche and Corvette for their engines. Who knows though, maybe they cheapened it along the way. I've never used it, because it seems that synthetics are only worth it in turbos and truly high output engines, none of which I've owned...yet.
@asaturn Mobil one is so bad for subaru's.. i go royal purple in our STI, or Red Line every now and then.. And what does the blinking cruse mean?? i get it when i lose traction on snow, but i've never seen it before on dry pavment.
Subaru is full of shit, I have heard of other things like this happening, there was a recall on the oil supply line not long ago, but your problem doesnt sound the same? subie should fix what they didnt get right
I brought it in and they said they couldn't find a problem... but they never touched a single bolt. the noise is intermittent and they say the code is inconclusive (P0011) ... I've changed the oil at least every 3000 miles. mostly highway driving for my job... I drive almost 100 miles per day M-F. car has not been abused at all. 100% stock except for a SPT catback exhaust.
This just started happening to me today :-(

yours sounds like the recall they did where the oil supply pipe to the turbo can snap
I wouldn't drive it. burning oil = fire.
