this scene was the only time I've actually cried in a movie.
it doesn't really seem serious unless you watch the whole film or can relate to it in some way. I showed my friend and they just laughed so it's different for everyone. :)
this is good. I read the book, and saw the movie, they were both amazing. They helped me come out to be gay. I almost pissed myself when she said this is good!
@Rcyhdreirst Thats exactly what I thought too. The uploader is a retard. Best "scene" would make more sense even though this scene sucked horrible balls so this movie must be absolute shit.
When you can't laugh to something as amazingly funny as this, is possibly because you know what it feels to love an 'empty' mom, as Augusten and me. Have been in a similar situation, is just heartbreaking.
I really wish to read the book, because the movie is absolutely amazing, but I don't understand it as well as I could if I had read the book. Can anyone explain to me a few things? Such as the ceiling being broken down, the need for high ceilings, why she even mixed her drugs to start with. :/
Wow, Joseph Cross is incredible in this scene. No words at all, but the audience can feel the emotion he is portraying in his character like being hit with a ton of bricks! That takes a talented actor and he nailed it. Annette Bening is great too, that one word "Surprise" having a painful double meaning there....such a great film, I recommend it to all in search of a quality piece of cinema.
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!! what is the name of the movie where annette benning is driving in a car with alex baldwin and she said to him "i smell manure" can someone please help me find that movie and scene.
@sheboxer18 That's the film you've just seen an excerpt of here- "Running With Scissors". The scene you're talking about happens about ten to fifteen minutes into the film.
@sheboxer18 I'm pretty sure it's Alec Baldwin, and I looked on wikipedia at their filmography, and the only movie those two have in common is this one
its a memior, and his mother is crazy and from the begging to the end she gets increasinly bad, its a great book, touching sad and funny all at the same time.
I really liked this movie. I'm also really glad that I didn't know there was a book before I saw it. It sounds like everyone who had read it was seriously disappointed by the movie. Maybe I'll read it soon.
But with regard to this scene, Deirdre scared me and made me laugh out loud at the same time. Poor Augusten, though. The horror and sadness on his face broke my heart.
Argghh! Every single time I see Neil I think "Jeez, he'd be so much better looking without the beardy mustache thing!" Cuzzz he was supposed to be cute in the book... And he's kind of got the potential to be cute... He's just not there yet =P
I love how she starts eating random, non food things like matchsticks and candles when she gets really depressed. I want to be sad because she's so drugged up, but it's just so funny lol
i read the book wayyy before i actually got to watching the movie and i must say, the book is way better. i've got to admit that i was very dissapointed when i watched the movie. they left out sooo many things and it just didnt make me feel how the book made me feel. but this scene is the only scene that i actually liked. its the only time that you actually understand Deirdre's illness.
God... The guy who plays Augusten is an amazing actor. This scene, for me, was breathtaking. The heartbreak on his face when he sees his mom is so raw. I love it.
@dathers28 no joke the guy who plays Augusten actually lives in my hometown and me and his twin brothers were in the same grade. He's a really cool guy
I don't think the movie was that good actually. ESPECIALLY for people who have never read the book. i know a few people like that and they were totally completely confused the whole time haha. Well I guess the book is kinda like that too..
Anyways the actress who played Dierdre was AMAZING!!! She totally made the movie! :)
@innoxia completely agree...but...I can't shake the book off my head when watching the movie so it gets ruined easily =/ ... I hope Showtime does pick up Dry as a show...I'd love to see that...

It's okay but nothing near the book. One great thing about the movie though is that everyone was brilliantly casted... with the exception of the actor that plays Augusten.
@seeMEGANplayx3 You didn't like the person who played Augusten? I actually liked him!! I thought he really captured the role well. You might be less in the moment in some books, yes, but that might be just because the author is a bad writer. Maybe it's not that books are a waste of time and they don't put you in the moment. Maybe it's just that you haven't read a book that satisfies your needs yet. What do you mean 'lack of collaboration'? You don't want to use your imaginative skills with the author's writing? I don't completely understand.
