  • this scene was the only time I've actually cried in a movie.

it doesn't really seem serious unless you watch the whole film or can relate to it in some way. I showed my friend and they just laughed so it's different for everyone. :)

  • Yes.

  • this is good. I read the book, and saw the movie, they were both amazing. They helped me come out to be gay. I almost pissed myself when she said this is good!

  • HAHAH . I love this line so much ..

  • This is the saddest line of the movie, for sure not the funniest!

  • The movie is actually really good it's just an akward moment in the movie.

  • I dont get it whats the best line?!

  • @Rcyhdreirst Thats exactly what I thought too. The uploader is a retard. Best "scene" would make more sense even though this scene sucked horrible balls so this movie must be absolute shit.

  • This is good.

  • i haven't seen this movie but if this is the best line, well it probably sucks.

take down that title, its misleading

  • @monkeybizwak Title's been up for three years, buddy, I think it's gonna stay that way.

  • @seeMEGANplayx3 Loved this Movie! but "monkeybiz" is right....your Title is very misleading

  • @monkeybizwak This part was hilarious.

  • this part isnt even in the book!!!

  • Just seeing this, like not even watching the movies makes me burst into tears -.-

  • love this

  • When you can't laugh to something as amazingly funny as this, is possibly because you know what it feels to love an 'empty' mom, as Augusten and me. Have been in a similar situation, is just heartbreaking.

  • oh shi- todays my 15th birthday o_o

  • This movie is fucking amazing. Thank you for posting this.

  • wait!!! the black girl was suppose to be ugly and fat. nothing like gabbreill

  • I really wish to read the book, because the movie is absolutely amazing, but I don't understand it as well as I could if I had read the book. Can anyone explain to me a few things? Such as the ceiling being broken down, the need for high ceilings, why she even mixed her drugs to start with. :/

  • Wow, Joseph Cross is incredible in this scene. No words at all, but the audience can feel the emotion he is portraying in his character like being hit with a ton of bricks! That takes a talented actor and he nailed it. Annette Bening is great too, that one word "Surprise" having a painful double meaning there....such a great film, I recommend it to all in search of a quality piece of cinema.

  • FAIL.

  • HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!! what is the name of the movie where annette benning is driving in a car with alex baldwin and she said to him "i smell manure" can someone please help me find that movie and scene.

  • @sheboxer18 That's the film you've just seen an excerpt of here- "Running With Scissors". The scene you're talking about happens about ten to fifteen minutes into the film.

  • @sheboxer18 I'm pretty sure it's Alec Baldwin, and I looked on wikipedia at their filmography, and the only movie those two have in common is this one

  • @sheboxer18 it's this movie

  • this book was utterly fantastic.

  • the surprise by her is better

  • thanks for adding this

  • ;_; made me cry when i watched the movie....makes me cry now

  • I just started reading the book I've seen bits of the movie but not all of it so far the books great

  • @HealthyObbsession can you tell me who the author is? pls?

  • @roxel6 augusten burroughs

  • @roxel6 No prob sorry for the long wait its actually is an autobiogrophy by Augusten Burroughs

  • @MegaCheezecake so did your mom

  • "This is good"

its sad but that line always makes me loose it

  • is 'cause of the f"***g drugs she mixed up and she's really bad

  • i haven't even seen the whole movie yet and augusten's face made me wanna cry!

  • Why is Augusten so sad? :(

  • Before I say something stupid, I'll just say that I guess I'll have to watch the whole movie to understand.

  • its a memior, and his mother is crazy and from the begging to the end she gets increasinly bad, its a great book, touching sad and funny all at the same time.

  • lmfao. its hard not to laugh because its so saddd

  • ... heartbreaking

  • I really liked this movie. I'm also really glad that I didn't know there was a book before I saw it. It sounds like everyone who had read it was seriously disappointed by the movie. Maybe I'll read it soon.

But with regard to this scene, Deirdre scared me and made me laugh out loud at the same time. Poor Augusten, though. The horror and sadness on his face broke my heart.

  • Supriiiiise...

  • aww

  • I loveeee this movie.

  • Argghh! Every single time I see Neil I think "Jeez, he'd be so much better looking without the beardy mustache thing!" Cuzzz he was supposed to be cute in the book... And he's kind of got the potential to be cute... He's just not there yet =P

  • 0:11 HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH :)))

  • its been a while since i watched this but who on earth was that black women?

  • the mother's girlfriend

  • His mother's girlfriend

  • I read and loved the book. Haven't seen the movie yet. Augusten Burroughs is god!

  • I love how she starts eating random, non food things like matchsticks and candles when she gets really depressed. I want to be sad because she's so drugged up, but it's just so funny lol

  • lmfao, she ate wax :D i loveloveloveloveloveloveLOVE this movie!

  • First, I was bored. Then it sucked me in. I started liking it. Then, when Bookman read his poetry, I LAUGHED 'TILL I CRIED. We had to stop the movie.

  • hhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha belive me it is not LOLZ

  • shes so medicated

  • Usually, this kind of stuff makes me want to cry, but her eating the candle and saying "this is good", all crazy-like. Come on, that's hilarious!

  • I freaking love the book. I can tell I won't like the movie though. Which is sad = (

  • i read the book wayyy before i actually got to watching the movie and i must say, the book is way better. i've got to admit that i was very dissapointed when i watched the movie. they left out sooo many things and it just didnt make me feel how the book made me feel. but this scene is the only scene that i actually liked. its the only time that you actually understand Deirdre's illness.

  • I can tell without seeing the movie nothing like the book! so sad! :0(

  • Well it's always like that, so you should watch the movie with that in mind, a movie can never be better than the book it's written about :)

The best i've seen yet was the Silent Hill movie, it was the game it self step by step, great story as well.

  • That movie is fucked up.

  • the book was amazing ^-^

  • i finished the book today. amazing. i laughed till i cried.

  • I cried till I laughed.

  • im am currently reading this book and it is really good but i want to finish the book before i see the movie!!

  • I just finished the book today and it's very good! ^_^

  • yes i finished it saturday! i liked it!

  • omg me too!!!!!!

    its a great book.

love it. want to see the movie now.

  • i LOVE the guy who plays Augusten

    he is so gud :)

  • THIS IS GOOD.

    Haha.

  • God... The guy who plays Augusten is an amazing actor. This scene, for me, was breathtaking. The heartbreak on his face when he sees his mom is so raw. I love it.

  • @dathers28 I saw him in a stage adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany's in London. he was stupendous, such an honor to see real talent that close.

  • @dathers28 no joke the guy who plays Augusten actually lives in my hometown and me and his twin brothers were in the same grade. He's a really cool guy

  • i actually thought the candle was a cake cause she eats like as if it was a cake

  • good movie

    great book

    but not the two together.

  • I don't think the movie was that good actually. ESPECIALLY for people who have never read the book. i know a few people like that and they were totally completely confused the whole time haha. Well I guess the book is kinda like that too..

Anyways the actress who played Dierdre was AMAZING!!! She totally made the movie! :)

  • HAHA this was one of my favorite lines, too.

  • that candle looks delicious

  • I love when she eats the candle haha its sad but still pretty awesome.

  • HAHA I know!

  • im readinh the boo and the movie looks nothing liek the book

  • The movie is NOTHING like the book.

The movie would be good if there was no book that it had to live up to....

  • i agree, although i haven't read the book. but i think this is true for any book-to-movie transition

  • @innoxia don't think they can really include everything, like when natalie mashes her vagina against the window to scare away the neighbor lmao

  • @innoxia completely agree...but...I can't shake the book off my head when watching the movie so it gets ruined easily =/ ... I hope Showtime does pick up Dry as a show...I'd love to see that...

  • the movie DEFINENTLY did not suck...

its hard to make a book into a movie

(the movie was actually pretty damn relivant to the book)

and the book was so fukking terrific,

it would be so hard to make a perfect adaption to the screen...

    the book was too good

annette bening and joeseph cross gave great preformences (so did gwyneth paltrow)

  • i just saw this on tv a sec ago lol

  • this movie was amazing.

    and i loved this parttt!!!

    :)

  • movie is nothing like the book.

  • this is a great part, but my favorite was right before that-when Mr. Blue was playing. this movie is so sad! I've only seen about half of it though.

  • the movie did not suck

    it just wasnt the greatest

its very hard to translate a book to movie

    with time and all

i read the book first and felt disappointed because so many things were left out

  • the movie is good alone.

when it has nothing to do with the book.

  • I agree this movie sucked

well actually i found it fun to make fun of

i hear the books TOTALLY different and great

  • I think Neil is the most adorable person...

    O_O "Augustin, what's wrong..."

By far, all time favorite movie.<33333333333

  • holy this is madness.. i wish i had this movie

  • they should have made the movie five hours long. just so they could have every piece of content squeezed in just right. because that would be perfect. it was still amazing though.

  • You might be less in the moment in some books, yes, but that might be just because the author is a bad writer. Maybe it's not that books are a waste of time and they don't put you in the moment. Maybe it's just that you haven't read a book that satisfies your needs yet. What do you mean 'lack of collaboration'? You don't want to use your imaginative skills with the author's writing? I don't completely understand.

  • You see books as a waste of time because your brain is probably unable to comprehend the meaning and writing of the book, or visualize what the writer is saying; in other words, you are slow... or just lazy.

  • less in the moment? i mean i respect ur opinion, but i mean... come on. when u r reading books, u have to make urself in the moment. u have to take what the author says, and use ur imagination (if u have one) and dream it up in ur mind. u can't leave it all to the writer. don't u think its boring to just read a book without really thinking about it??? if u don't analyze it, then u r just looking at random words with no meaning whatsoever. do u understand??? i mean, someone normal would.

  • ahh how sad..

  • The film wasn't up to much, but the book was absolutely fantastic.

  • The way the mother said surprise...waaayyy scary lol

  • movie was okay, book was incredible

  • well tht suchs.. he needs to be played by the best! darn.. kk ill see it i guess anyways. why is hope so skinny?!

  • lol and why is her hair blonde?

    natalie is skinny too

i liked the movie a lot..no, its not as good as the book but its hard to make a good movie and make it exactly like the book its based on...but it kinda makes me mad that they dont get little things right

    like hopes hair..and their sizes

stupid hollywood people trying to make everyone seem skinny

  • i havent seen it but ive read the book.. is the movie as good?

  • It's okay but nothing near the book. One great thing about the movie though is that everyone was brilliantly casted... with the exception of the actor that plays Augusten.

  • @seeMEGANplayx3 You didn't like the person who played Augusten? I actually liked him!! I thought he really captured the role well. I mean, we're all entitled to our own opinions of course, but I've never actually heard someone say they didn't prefer him in that movie, so it kind of took me by surprise, haha.

  • @seeMEGANplayx3 I personally think Joseph Cross was amazing in this film but hey, to each their own. :) He's great in 'Milk' too, especially when acting alongside Sean Penn.

  • @seeMEGANplayx3 I don't think the movie was that bad. I really like the book, but I find that the movie has some of the greatest acting momments I've ever seen in a long time, and very brilliant dialouge. (though some were taken from the book.)

  • lol hilarious!!!! i love it...Running with Scissors is like my favorite movie of all time

  • Like, really?

  • the book is better but i still like the movie
