The "life saving drug" was originally considered way too expensive compared to the next best "life saving treatment" and access was not denied - just the funding. The NHS later did a deal and that drug is now used. Not every US insurer has that drug on their formulary. Google and you will find plenty of American insurers that refused to pay too.
Ha Ha...Love the music. The Daily Mail and the London Standard are not exactly proper sources for the truth! . Only an idiot would pull their own teeth!! Its easy to get a private dentist. If 12 different dentists refused it was probably for a very good reason.
In any case there is no "government take over of health care". In fact, all that is happening is that more tax dollars and more people (rich and poor alike) are going to pay more to the insurance industry (though why they call it an industry is puzzling to me because they only "take" and don't themselves deliver a cent in health care).
It's a win for the insurance industry. The republicans absolutely WILL NOT reform it. They will lose votes if they do.
"NHS Chiefs say 61 year old grandmother was too old for life-saving surgery costing £5,000". This is nonsense!
The woman actually has atrial fibrilliation which is not life-threatening. It can be treated in many ways but she wanted a pacemaker because a friend she knows has benefited from this. She herself was advised against it on good medical grounds (an underlying thyroid problem), not her age. NHS Chiefs do not make decisions. Doctors do and on clinical grounds.
There are already plenty of places to get birth control. There are also place for adopting babys that are not wanted by the mothers. There are plenty of couples who want children. So this should be a no brainer. Anyone who has an abortion will have to live with that for the rest of their lives and on to the here after. You do not want the goverment to say who lives and who dies according to how much money it will cost.
That is NOT what the goverment are trying to do. It is up to the mother whether she gets an abortion or not which is something the goverment can't influence. Also what about girls pregnant through rape? Are you going to force her to give birth to a child born through rape?
I know a person who gave birth to a child of rape. She never once thougth of abortion. She has a wonderful grown child that knows of her conseption and admires her mom for her choice to keep her. Yes it takes a strong person, but it can be done.
I was a USAF pilot for 6 years and had "public" health care. Though it was not as good as I could possibly imagine, the healthcare I recieved in the USAF was as good as any that I have recieved as a civilian. My mother in law is a millionare on medicare, she pays for nothing, and gets care as good as anyone could. Even though she could pay for any care she wants, she has never been tempted to pay for anything extra. If you don't want the public option don't use it, keep private insurance.
When you start to collect SS your forced to take Medicare. Any medical provider has to go to Medicare before a secondery insurancce. The goverment made it that way. Not the pensioner's fault.
The problem is the doctors won't want to be in the public service, and wait times will increase so much for the public service that the people without emergencies won't receive care for extremely long periods of time.
many of us already have gov't health care and still have to pay over several thousand a year for supplements and medicine.
all people living in this country have access to free medical care in federal, state, county and city hospitals which are required to treat ALL people regardless of their ability to pay.
Yeah, but don't try explaining any of that to the clutch of blathering John Galt wannabes who seem to circle around every sick, diseased word of "wisdom" from the right wing oligarchs like moths drawn to a flame.
You can hear the awful noise of rusted and neglected mental wheels trying to spin from 3 states away as they try to remember and parrot their new Fox "news" fair and bullshit talking point.
This video is a complete piece of shit. Just the first two screens of text are enough to make that clear.
What a goddamn bunch of lies and tripe. Absolutely typical of a Christo-fascist Neo-CON who is only concerned for his/herself and prefers the easy road of complete ignorance over getting the FACTS and making INFORMED DECISIONS!
Better to ask questions now than to buy-in, hook, line and sinker without going to even the first level of analysis. To accept this proposed legislation at face value is the pitfall of the simpleton.
All of my questions have been answered by studying the level of care and costs being paid by THIRTY-SIX OTHER NATIONS who are ranked above the US in quality of medical care by the World Health Organization.
I'm no simpleton. I know precisely what I'm talking about.
Now, exactly what do YOU know? Back it up with some sources. Or prove to me once and for all that you got nothin'.
My research includes the systems of the UK, Sweden, and Germany. All are experiencing financial strain. Like the US, these countries are facing a declining tax base, and they are unable to sustain the level of services currently provided. It is well documented that while it may be easy to get an appointment to see a general practitioner in each of these countries, if one needs a specialist, the wait is several months. So, given the results of my own research, I'd rather ask questions now.
Wow. I'm almost impressed enough that I'm thinking about not laughing you out of here.
Then I realize that you're referring to one lone Brit, who's presently the laughing stock of the British press if you'd only bother to search his name. THEN, I realize you're talking about a nutter who was kind enough to appear on GLENN BECK??? and SEAN HANNITY??? on fucking Fox news, and *poof* just like that you've blown all credibility.
Something actually "fair" and "balanced" next time, please!
No. I feel like someone who lost his health insurance when his wife was laid off against her will a few months back, and who was driven almost into bankruptcy by ridiculous co-pays and prescription costs even when he HAD the fucking private insurance. I now have nowhere to turn if I should fall critically ill except for a dispassionate and profit-driven hospital system. Countless millions of others are in the same fucking situation right now.
It is kind of amazing some "people" think health costs are like buying a car or any other commercial proposition (eg: all the insurance co-sponsored posts on Youtube by varying "people"). You can plan to buy a car or a house: it's your own responsibility and your money allocation--but you can't plan a medical affliction. Not the same. I simply note one anti-health plan person on Ytube had her two fave videos as a) a revolver shooting into a tank, and b) a clip of Milton F'man on "Greed". True!!
The ones trying to stop Health Care Reform are scared, willfully ignorant yokels being bused in and given their marching orders by shills working for big insurance companies. These are sad people who are clueless and angry about it.
They would rather trust their lives to an insurance co. board then a government run and managed by their fellow citizens.
Aging, bloated dinosaurs. Roaring out their last frenzined bellows of puzzled rage. That's what's driving them bugfuck nuts. Fat-assed, too.
I live in Canada, where health care is nationalized, and when i see this i truly laugh my head off. Obviously the rich are scared because the poor is getting treatment equal to theirs which frightens them, this is the biggest load of bullshit ever, a panel decided who lives and who dies? ridiculous, however i expect it from you retarded under educated right winged american bigomists.
That's fine nationalize it, but I want the thousands of dollars I have paid over the years to cover my ass and support the uninsured in the emergency room.
yes, right ow we just let the insurance companies and some one whom you have never met, sitting behind a desk decide weather you can have treatment or not. The insurance companies can over ride your doctors decisions, it has happened to me. Yes this system is sooo much better, it is o.k. for the big corporate insurance companies to choose who will live or not. What a load of crap this video is.
I find it quite ironic that this person would like to stop abortions, yet wants nothing to care for that child once it is born. It is indicative of those that oppose health care reform that they tend to oppose any program that would help those already left behind by society.
Would anyone willingly pass by an injured child or an elderly person? I think not. But to continue in the system we have would be the same thing. Folks are dying everyday due to a lack of medical coverage.
Your statement that "folks are dying everyday due to a lack of medical coverage" is ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. I am a registered nurse and I work at a very busy inner-city hospital in Dallas, Texas. I personally care for illegal immigrants, poor people, and homeless people on a regular basis, and they honestly receive nearly the same care as everyone else, and are not expected to pay. If these people are bankrupting the system, imagine paying for EVERYONE, and for their optional care, too.
So you honestly believe that paying for the entire coutnry's population to have healthcare is cheaper than paying for the distinct population of people that use the ER as primary care? You are sorely wrong, my friend. Also, I have been on the receiving end of our own government-run healthcare- the military's healthcare. I served in the Army, and that healthcare is horrible. Trust me, you don't want that. And how 'bout those dems wanting to cover illegal aliens? You wanna pay for that?
Does anybody find it ironic that they don't want the "government in my health care" but they want to tell women of childbearing age what to do with their health care? Hmmm? [Don't tell me what to do because I am too busy telling you what do do.]
This should not be about rich, middle class or poor. This is seriously basic to the function of our nation. Health benefit costs make our corporations uncompetitive.
This is blatant, rediculous, fearmongering and you all know it. The reality NOW is that millions of people in America are going without any health care and it IS costing lives.
This is not a debate about class politics or eating the rich. We need strong, healthy, population in order to maintain a strong, healthy nation.
Videos like this, and the morons swayed by them, bring nothing to the conversation over health care reform.
The left has been successful in creating class warfare. What is going to happen is there is going to be two classes. Rich & poor. Middleclass stop working for a week and see what happens!
Actually the rich (I am ot rich...having made less than 20,000 dollars last year) already pay more than their fair share. 40% of the population pays no taxes. That's wrong...period. The richest handful of people already pay well more than half of our taxes. Take a red pen to the federal budget and even the rich could pay a reasonable amount in taxes. Department of Education? National Endowment of the Arts? Just two quick examples of places the government (and our tax dollars) do not belong.
ATTENTION, the Health Care Bill (H.R.3200) will also KILL OUR ELDERLY! Read pages 425 - 430. The care for the elderly will decrease as their age increases. Eventually a committee will decide when it is time for them to die!!!! They will be extremely rationed and may or may not receive nutritional needs! WAKE UP FOLKS, this is ELDERLY EUTHANASIA!The Gov. wants to dictate to the infirm and vulnerable and TELL THEM WHEN AND HOW TO DIE!Contact your Senators and pass the word.(God help this country.)

To argue against Public Option is to argue in favor of placing a businessman between you and your doctor. You trust businessmen after the economic meltdown? Yes, our government got us into Iraq, but we can change our government every four years if necessary.
I get your point, milliesmom, but I can choose to do business with an insurance company or take my business elsewhere if I don't like the service they provide. The government is a monopoly. Participation in a government health care program is mandatory, not voluntary. Participation in the private sector IS voluntary and that, to me, is why it will always serve people better than a government agency that doesn't have to worry about competitors.
The proposal allows you to choose your insurer. I am quite willing to allow people not to carry health insurance and to refuse care. How would we best care for those who choose not to be part of the system? If they can afford and choose not to carry, then, the ambulance should not retrieve them from the ditch for transport to the hospital which they do not pay for. But voluntary often means unattainable. Those people should be able to obtain insurance, contribute to the system they use.
FYI: Living Will information.has been presented to patients of all ages entering the hospital for at least a decade. It is not new.
Abortion is a more difficult discussion because of the science vs religious aspects of it. For matters of government, we must go with the science because religious influence is forbidden by our constitution.
Since we voted in November and inaugurated in January, one cannot rightly call our government a dictatorship. We will vote again in two years and for President, in four. If you choose to be alarmed about "dicktatorship," you should look back to the initiation of tapping your telephones by the previous administration. That ought to alarm you.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed -- and hence clamorous to be led to safety -- by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. -- H.L. Mencken, writer, editor, and critic (1880-1956)
Why should the people who have worked hard all their lives, have to pay for people who are too lazy to get a job...yet complain that they don't get enough handouts from the government??
"Spreading the wealth" does not help America...it will ruin us. Why would anyone want to go out and work hard...if they can stay at home and be catered to?
We have got to stop this madness going on in WA...let your Representatives know how you feel! You voted them in...remind them you can vote them out...
The recession was caused because people went out and lived way too far beyond their means. If you make $20,000 a year, there is no way you can afford to live in a $300,000 house and drive a BMW!
The rich are rich because they made good money decisions and lived within their means. So why should they be made to hand over their hard earned money to people who are waiting for handouts?
What motivation do I have to go out and work 60 hours a week to make $500, when my neighbor lazes around at home all day and makes the same amount??
The only thing "spreading the wealth" is going to accomplish is creating a government dependent country...where everything should be handed to you on a silver platter...whether you earned it or not.
I so agree with you. But LLORT3 doesn't agree with either one of us. What happened to the old "HAND UP, NOT HAND OUT"? When I was down, individuals helped me. I in turn repaid the favor to someone else. This is what people do, not walk around with their hand out. Those of us that do that have the dignity we were taught as children.
No way should hard workers share will lazy asses. The money was pooled in congress and they blew it. If you want to buy a home or car for someone, be my guest. I want to pick who I share my money with. OH and by the way, I gave more of my income to charity than the Obama's did. Guess he's good at sharing other people's money.
I am neither greedy or rich. I spent years working hard to take of me and my family. I never spent what I didn't have and made sure I saved some, so I wouldn't have to ask others. I brought my children up the same way. Share what you have with those you choose and don't buy what you can't afford. Does the word tieth mean any thing? You sound like a bittter person who maybe feels like he/she should have more than he does. Think of what you DO have and thank GOD.
Again, just because someone has more money than you, doesn't mean they should be penalized for making good decisions. I agree that some are greedy, however, they still worked hard for their money.
I agree with Patty51...if you have the money to be able to help people out, that should be your CHOICE, not mandate.
Let's put a new spin on this. Say you were one of these "rich" people...how would you feel about being made to hand over your hard-earned money to lazy people??
We don't (at all) need to encourage laziness in this country!! If we still lived by the standards that our great-grandparents lived by, our country wouldn't be in this mess!!
My grandpa always told me always sleep on a big decision involving money. If it's a car that you want...sleep on it...if it's gone when you come back, then it wasn't meant for you.
I am by no means rich...I barely get by...but I don't rely on the government for anything...I rely on God...and I'm doing fine!!
I just think the rich should pay their fair share. If you are one of them, I don't mean to offend you, but I just think you should be paying more into the system if you can afford it.
I would be 100% okay with paying more of my money to the less fortunate.
I think if the rich do not want to pay their fair share, they should be coerced into paying. Otherwise we would have anarchy.
Let's remember, your recession was caused by the rich hogging up all the money and leaving the rest of USA with no money to buy cars and houses, so instead the middle class went into debt.
If the problem was "the rich", then why is the entire world not in an eternal recession / depression? The wealthy have always been greedy. The smoking gun in all of this was the availability of easy money, i.e. credit cards, home and auto loans to people who were living beyond their means. When the market "corrected" last year, those people found themselves unable to pay off their debts, making things worse.
The rich buy the yachts, build factories, hire people, etc. Every dollar "coerced" from them is one less dollar that could be paid to an employee, spent on equipment upgrades, etc. Even if they choose to stuff it in a mattress, it's THEIR MONEY, not "ours". Most millionaires in the US are first generation. They didn't inherit their wealth. They didn't steal it. They didn't win the lottery. They worked hard, saved, invested, and profited. It's THEIR MONEY.
Then why don't you move to Cuba...Money has been evenly distributed there for years and look how far the country has gone. Everyone wins alright, that's why every cuban owns a car and a home, right? That's why they risk their lives to come to USA for freedom to choose what they want when they want it.
That was total bullshit you are being brainwashed by the media.
I am Canadian and my grandfather 82 has already had 3 MRI's in the last year and has 2 more lined up. And if you don't know about how our system work's well he is the last person the doctor's are treating as he is so old.
We've got to turn up the pressure even higher and get the word out about this end of life counseling provision that threatens our seniors and the chronically ill.. Remember, no American should ever feel guilty for wanting to live.
Thank you Mike Gallagher for telling the truths of Obamacare. Many people I debate against on youtube are denying all your claims & can't accept the truths. I'm finding that people for Obamacare doesn't realize that just because you are covered by the govt, it doesn't mean you'll get the life saving treatments. They think I'm a insurance spoke person or a Republican. I'm neither & I am proud to be an American who cares for the future of our wonderful nation particularly our children..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You are being fed a line by the health care industry, through your churches. The only ones served by not overhauling the health industry is the health care industry. The US spends over 2 trillion dollars per year on health care but rates at the bottom of all industrialized countries in the most basic of measurements. This stuff about socialism and abortions is meant to distract you from what is important. I have the best health care that money can buy, but most of you do not, that's a fact.
SEC 1145 PG 272, TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS, CANCER PATIENTS, AND THEIR TREATMENTS ARE OPEN TO RATIONING!
SEC 1233 PG LINES 15-24 GOVERNMENT MANDATES PROGRAM FOR ORDERS FOR LIFE-SUSTAINING TREATMENT (i,e, END OF LIFE). THE GOVERNMENT HAS A SAY IN HOW YOUR LIFE ENDS!
People in Britain and Canada call a doctor when they get a cold. They call a travel agent when they get a serious agent. Then they travel to the U.S. where we have the best health care in the world.
87% of Americans are HAPPY WITH THEIR HEALTHCARE and wish to keep it. So what's the problem here? If 87% of Americans don't want this disaster of a governmental program, WHY are we even having this discussion?
THat is a very interesting statistic about 87% of American's being satisfied with their health care. I am a physicist so I am pretty good with numbers. If 50 million Americans have no health insurance that means that 20% of Americans have no health care but the emergency room. If 87% of Americans are satisfied with their health care (a number far far higher than any number I have ever seen elsewhere) that would mean that at least 7% of the people with no health care are satisfied with that?
No, I think what the stats mean is that 87% of people who have health care are happy with their current coverage. It doesn't take a rocket scientist (or a physicist, in your case) to figure that one out.
If you people will read the health care bill, doctors ARE limited to certain amounts they will be paid for services. Certainly many doctors will leave their practices. That's why rationing happened in Canada, in Britain, in France, and in Switzerland. The ONLY country with a successful "public" health care service is ISRAEL. But then, they do care about their people.
Abortions are funded by the Health Care bill. Abortions are murder. What's to debate about that. Christians do not wish to fund murder. We do not want our money being used in that manner. Therefore, we will not fund gov. healthcare.
They go to Mexico for unproven "snake oil" treatments such as chelation therapy for cancer, not legitimate, scientifically proven treatments that are submitted for peer review and many other steps before approval on human beings as must happen in the U.S..
They also go down there for CHEAP cosmetic surgery, etc.
Wow. Is this a movie trailer for The Exorcist? Alien? With the ridiculously over the top "scare" music and the "creepy" ghost trail graphics (nice touch on turning it red for the National Abortion Bill part) it's about as parody-ready as anything I've seen from the right in recent memory. Soooo overtly and offensively over the top in its goofy fear mongering angle. Next time, at least hire a professional movie trailer company in LA. Horribly amateurish and lame.
Thank God there are some sane people out there who are not taken in by absurd calims that have no basis in fact. I have no idea where people get this stuff. I am a fairly intelligent guy I suppose, but I never thought that there were really Homer Simpson types out there who just believe anything that has an ominous sound track. I do not recall anything about abortions in the health care bill, other than that perhaps they might be covered by a health insurance plan, like any other insurance.
"The Kennedy bill would result in the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade," said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. "It would result in federally mandated coverage of abortion by nearly all health plans, federally mandated recruitment of abortionists by local health networks, and nullification of many state abortion laws. It would also result in federal funding of abortion on a massive scale."
You qoute the National RIght To Life as though that was an unbiased source of information? You have got to be kidding. I can just see the movie parody of someone stating with a serious face that the National Right to Life is a reliable souce of information about Planned Parenthood or right to choose perspectives
You know PPs main business is abortions & that they use our tax money to kill human beings!
From AP 7/22/09 - Democratic lawmakers opposed to federal funding for abortions said the House leadership's health care bill contains a "hidden mandate" that would allow taxpayer dollars to be used to end pregnancies.
"We cannot support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan," 20 Dems.
No basis in fact?? Watch 1:15-1:43 again. It is CLEARLY stated that Planned Parenthood will receive funding under the bill. Planned Parenthood is responsible for +250,000 abortions every year. I'm sure even a "Homer Simpson type" like you can put two and two together.
First of all using a reference to this video as fact is clearly misunderstanding the nature of facts. Second, Planned Parenthood is not primarilly an abortion provider, but rather a provider of family planning services not unlike what any family doctor would provide. Saying that Planned Parenthood can recieve funding from this bill in no way suggests that the bill is intended to increase the number of abortions. Finally, Planned Parenthood does not tell anyone to have an abortion.
What I cited was Congressional testimony... it may have been included in this video, but that has absolutely zero bearing on its factuality. I don't think Sen. Barbara Mikulski would lie about whether or not PP was receiving funding in the bill she helped write. Furthermore, I don't care if they do other things besides providing abortions. The fact of the matter is that they DO perform a quarter of a million abortions annually. For many, that's taxpayer money funding genocide.
There is absolutely no historical evidence that any country that went to a national health care system had any of the things described in this video ever happen. If you look at all those health plans that the health care industry is warning about us, Canada, England, France, etc., in every one of those countries plus many many more, the longevity of it's people and infant mortality, and virtually every other quantatative measure of the health of that countries health, is better than the USA.
I can see why you call yourself " Wild" because all of your assertions are, too.
No, the facts are the opposite of what you say. I lived in England and Australia. The elderly are denied treatment simply because of their age, and younger people are denied treatment if it is deemed to be too expensive.
The bottom line is the bottom line, in the US we pay twice as much as any other country on earth for health care, yet by virtually every objective maesure of the health of our people we are almost at the bottom of industrialized countries. Both England and Australia rate much higher than the US in virtually every catagory. I do not know if it is true that what you say about care being denied someone due to cost or age in those countries, but whatever they are doing is working better than ours.
My college room mate is now a cardiologist who does angioplasty. He makes about $450,000 per year working 4 days a week, 3 weeks a month. You know how much he spends on malpractice insurance? $20,000 per year. So if he was guaranteed not to be sued and he paid zero for malpractice insurance, he could decrease his fees by less than 5%. At that rate the US could cut it's health care costs to only 2 times the next most expensive country on earth, instead of 2.1 times the next most expensive.
Malpractice insurance, like all insurances, is based on risk. The more of a risk your specialty is, the higher the premium.
So why does your friend make so much? I mean after all, I thought the liberals were complaining that the greedy doctors charging too much was the reason our healthcare sucks & needs to be government run.
Under Obama care your friend will not make what he is making now! Obama will regulate his salary like he is doing to Wall Street and GM!
I am not sure I understand your question about how much my college room mate makes as a cardiologist. What is the connection with the liberals supposedly complaining about how much doctors make have to do with my friend's income? On a related topic, I have seen nothing in any proposed health care plan now under consideration that in any way limits what a doctor can make. By the way, I am certainly not a liberal. I am an ex USAF B-52 pilot, now corporate CEO.
Sec. 225, Pg. 127, Lines 1-16 - Doctors the government will tell YOU what you can make. The Secretary shall provide for the annual participation of physicians under the public health insurance option, for which payment may be made for services furnished during the year.
I suggested you to Liberty Counsel. I think you and your doctor friend need to read their overview.
Every insurance policiy in America specifies limits on what a doctor can charge for proceedures, why would government health insurance not do the same thing? Can you imagine what would happen if there were no limits on what a doctor could charge for a proceedure? How about $1000 office visits or $10,000 to set a broken arm (well maybe some doctors are already charging that, but you get the idea). Anyone is free to pay their doctor what they want, but no insurance will pay unlimited amounts.
Right now with private insurance, most doctors and hospitals have contractual agreements or allowed amounts which they accept as payment in full.
Doctors can charge $250.00 for a check-up, but say the insurance company only allows $50.00 for that service, then the doctor writes off the difference of $200.00 on his taxes!
The problem with our health care is NOT with the CARE it is with ILLEGALS and TORTs. Maybe once your doctor friend gets sued, you will understand the real problem.
Government run healthcare WILL put limits on what a doctor can charge AND what a doctor can make!
Stop defending this if you are not going to read the bill yourself! If you had gone to Liberty Counsel you would have found this:
Sec. 1121, Pg. 241, Lines 6-8 - Doctors, it does not matter what specialty you have; youll all be paid the same. Service categories established under this paragraph shall apply without regard to the specialty of the physician furnishing the service.
Did you also read the part where it says gove will have direct access everyones bank accounts for electronic funds transfer!!
Sec1233 Pg425 Lines 17-19 GOVERNMENT WILL INSTRUCT AND CONSULT REGARDING LIVING WILLS AND DURABLE POWERS OF ATTORNEY MANDATORY END OF LIFE PLANNING!
SEC 1233 PG 427 LINES 15-24 GOVERNMENT MANDATES PROGRAM FOR ORDERS FOR LIFE-SUSTAINING TREATMENT (i,e END OF LIFE). THE GOV HAS A SAY IN HOW YOUR LIFE ENDS!
ARE U HIGH the heath care reform is about taking power away from the corporations and giving it to the government. the government by the way is for the people as you live in a democracy if you haven't notice.
I take it that you just like your elected officials have not read the health care bill!
I also take it that you have never read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence because in case you haven't noticed, America is NOT a democracy...America is a Representative Constitutional Republic!
Tell me where in the Constitution is the word democracy!
To whom is your post directed? If it is to me, it is odd. Since I mentioned nothing about our government other than to say all this talk of dictatorship is silly. The straw man you have set up to knock down (if this is directed at any of my posts) is off point. It's off my point, anyway.
Fact: Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers. Breast cancer mortality is 52 percent higher in Germany than in the United States and 88 percent higher in the United Kingdom. Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the United Kingdom and 457 percent higher in Norway. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.
Fact: 2. Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians. Breast cancer mortality in Canada is 9 percent higher than in the United States, prostate cancer is 184 percent higher, and colon cancer among men is about 10 percent higher.
Fact: 3. Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries. Some 56 percent of Americans who could benefit from statin drugs, which reduce cholesterol and protect against heart disease, are taking them. By comparison, of those patients who could benefit from these drugs, only 36 percent of the Dutch, 29 percent of the Swiss, 26 percent of Germans, 23 percent of Britons, and 17 percent of Italians receive them.
You are right on 111942sta! My father was born & raised in England. He had pneumonia at age 6 which was not treated. You just died. By the time he LEGALLY immigrated to the U.S. at age 30, almost all of his teeth were rotten. When he was 40 he had a chronic case of Crohn's disease (which would have been detected earlier in his life if they had check-ups. So in England, he would have died but here in the US he had life saving surgery!
Most of you obviously have a good Healthcare plan. Consider yourselves blessed. I see americans come to my country to get the treatment they need because they can't afford it back in the U.S.. We are not talking heart transplants... we are talking dental work, MRI's and medicines that are somehow more affordable here even though they are made by the same lab. You deserve better...Obama's plan may not be the solution but you need a new system that cares for all. Thank you for your input.
This is laughable. It is Canadians and others that come to the U.S. to get treatment and tests that are greatly delayed or denied to them at home.
Americans are healthier! We wait far less time for procedures and surgeries. Our life expectancy with virtually any major disease is longer. And if you do not count deaths from violent crime and automobile accidents, we also have the longest life expectancy
If you have money (or a good Healthcare plan) then there is no better place than the U.S. to get treated for a major illness. People with means certainly travel to the U.S. to get treated. My point is that there are too many americans that can't afford to get treated at home so they go outside their borders to get treated. I didn't read this in some website, I see it with my own eyes here in Mexico. Go talk to the people who can't afford their premiums for a reality check.
Most amusing, JamesR1969. It is you on the left who try to scare everyone. This rush to burden the American people with a dictatorial, socialized medicine horror is just that - a scare tactic!
If you are getting such superior medical care in Mexico, then why is it millions of the poorest Mexican citizens and others come here and clog up our emergency rooms constantly? Emergency rooms have had to close down because of this. Why isn't the "benevolent" Mexican government taking care of its own people and why is it that American taxpayers are being forced to pay for them? Mexico has untold billions in natural resources. Surely some of the money could help care for your own poor!
Public healthcare in Mexico is not good... the mexican goverment cares little for its poor ( this is shameful). It is the private healthcare I get in Mexico that I find superior than the U.S.... why? It is quite good and it costs about a fourth of what I would pay for something equivalent in the States.... and there is no waiting either... Your system has gotten to be too expensive... less and less people are able to afford it as time goes by; keep it private if you wish but make it affordable.
Unfortunately you are looking at details and not the big picture. At the end of the day Americans do not live as long as the people in almost any other industrialized nation, and we have higher infant mortality than almost any other industrialized nation. There is no question that we spend a huge amount of money on health care, but the question is what do we get for it? You can cherry pick a few areas in which the stats seem to indicate some advantage, but in the end we do worse.
Really? Mmhhh... Dems and Republicans are so polarized they only see two flavors of people.... I'm not a democrat or a republican... I don't even live in the U.S. but I care for its well being.... you are such a blessed nation that deserves better. Would you belive me if I told you I get better healthcare in the third world country I now live than in my 15 years in the U.S.? You have the knowledge and the resources; you just need to show mercy for those who suffer most;God will bless U for it.
People don't get abortions because they are covered by their insurance... they get them because they don't want to have the child and don't consider an abortion the same as murder.... I oppose abortion and I think that until it becomes illegal, the best solution is to have a system that covers everyone and at the same contributes to the kind of environment that encourages women to chose life. Eliminate the excuses for having an abortion (no coverage / not enough money) and abortions will decreas
Lack of insurance is not an obstacle to abortion now. Therefore universal coverage wont increase the rate of abortion. If I'm wrong, why does the video not site skyrocketing abortion rates with the inception of other universal coverage plans?
Britain's problems would not necessarily be duplicated. That's like using a documentary on Nixon's shortcomings to argue against democracy anywhere else in the world.
For those without health insurance, most anything is better than nothing.
America what the hell is wrong with us? We are accepting and championing killing and death!
We only get one chance at life yet one party with the help of RINO's along with the current POTUS is hell-bent in killing human life before born, killing human life with disabilities and killing human life at the end. That is Hitler mentality!
And oh liberals who love Obama and the dems of death, and support their death policies like abortion and euthanasia... you will not be exempt from it!
I am a Christian and an old school conservative and I can always tell who has been watching FOX news a little too much. I strongly oppose abortion but I also know that the current system encourages it by simply leaving too many poor people and even middle class americans uncovered. God wants to bless everyone not just the wealthy that can afford the expensive premiums. Read your Bible and you will find that God establishes goverment to rule over us and we must abide by its authority. Old school.
Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's but the Bible does not tell us to put the government above God. We have been given the right by our government to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Our government has given us the right to free speech and to question it's authority. This bill is unconstitutional on many levels (govt may enter your home & have access to your records). Our Constitution gives us the right to demand that our politicians put US first not them or their party.
God's law is above all goverment law. We agree on that. The Bible doesn't tell us however to question goverment authority... it tells us to question its laws... subtle but there is a difference. I will not obey a goverment law if it breaks God's. Helping the poor and oppressed is God's mandate, so it is to love your enemies."Fight evil with good" says The Lord. Our Constitution is not infallible, the Bible is... we must improve on our earthly laws until they match the spirit of the heavenly law.
Yes. That's what I meant... Only the Bible is not fallible (for those of us who believe). Many people like to elevate the Constitution and the founding fathers' teachings to dogmatic truth. They were for sure wise men (wiser than me at least) but they were men and as such, fallible.
Thank you so much for sending it to me. This country is ready for the return of Christ! And we will have MUCH to be accountable for to God Almighty:; the Judge of the Universe.
Your no better than a Muslim nut bar. Like the U.S is something special anymore! Give me a break .You are morally on empty if you believe the Koran or the bible are real in any sense of the word ! keep religion out of politics!
Wake Up People! Why do you think the President and members of Congress have a totally different healthcare plan? Why do you think there are no plans to make changes to their healthcare plan (which we pay for). Isn't it only right that they accept and abide by the same plan that they want to force on us? I guarantee you if they had to change their plan, there would be little change!
Your argument makes little sense. The President himself said "I have a great medical plan... I have a doctor following me around 24/7, I'm not doing this for me .... but many of you don't even have access to a doctor and that is why we need to change it". I'm paraphrasing but the point is that he knows he's one of the lucky americans with great healthcare... Just go to the white house website and look at the vid of his last speech on healthcare.. the new plan will not outlaw private healthcare
Have you even read HR 3200?? You sound like you are drinking the Koolaid without reading the details. Don't live on what Obama has said, go read the bill.
And you're missing the point on abortion. Once a government sponsored program is implemented it means WE ALL are paying to cover whatever the Secretary of the plan (a single seat with a small board in the fed) decides to cover. Are you ok with paying for other people's abortions with your tax money? I'm not, and that's only one case.
No I haven't read the bill.... and you are right, I should. Of course I don't want my tax money to pay for abortions... just like I don't want my tax money to fund the bullets and jetfighter and bombs that kill many in far away places.... but I think that under the current circumstances we must seek the solution that saves the most lives.
You must first read the bill and know the details. There are no provisions in there that would save any lives. What is being touted is that it extends insurance coverage to those who don't have it, but aren't you curious to know HOW it does this (answer: taxes for "the wealthy" and penalties for non-conforming businesses and citizens).
It creates a Secretary position in charge of what is covered (so they can change it later without an act of congress) and has no guarantee of quality of care.
So extending coverage would not save any lives??? Wow, that's debatable...
I guess the real question is: Is the current system better than the new proposal??
Sure it is not fair to force the weathly to carry the burden (thru new taxes) but I think it's more unfair to tell a parent: "Sorry, your son's cancer treatment is not covered under your plan". I'm not saying Obama's plan is perfect but I think Congress should work out the kinks instead of trying to kill it.
Insurance provides for preventative care mainly, it's not the utopian idea that all services will be free and readily available. See: the reality in the video.
The real question is: Is HR 3200 an acceptable bill in its current form?
I contend that it is not. Can it be modified so that it is? Hopefully. That's what we are looking for. Don't pass it till it is. Don't pass it on idealogical hopes, it needs to work and socialism doesn't work.
Great. That's all I'm hoping for. It is not the all-or-nothing proposal that Obama is making it out to be. If HR 3200 doesn't pass because it is unacceptable then we are not stuck with our current system.
We have the full attention of the Senate, the House of Representatives, and now most of the American People to make sure some measures are taken to reign in costs and expand care. I'm yet confident in the real power of the American People to make sure this gets done right. No more sheep
Well said MJPledge... In my humble opinion I think you have the right mind set. I hope more people on both sides of the aisle would see it the way you do. It was nice chatting with you... Thank you for your ideas and sharing your knowledge. Grace and blessings. Enrique.
Also, if providing cancer treatment is your definition of saving lives, then the answer is definitely: no, it will not save lives.
This plan does not guarantee you any cancer treatment. Your son's cancer treatment approval will be based on things like: life-years saved, expected change of recovery, cost of proposed treatment in relation to alternatives, specialization needed, and then you'll have to wait for a doctor to be available.
What this video is highlighting is the ACTUAL condition in countries that have implemented Universal (socialistic) Health Care and sheds light on the fact that the problems there are more fatal and less humanitarian (ie: being refused care) than ours (ie: the high cost of care).
We need to fix the high cost of providing the care. Merely shifting the cost of providing the insurance to the "wealthy" is neither acceptable nor sustainable. Hold out for a better option and read the details!
A suggestion: google NHS denies. That's it. Just that will bring you an amazing number of newspaper articles from the UK on health care issues and how NICE denies care. Don't listen to American news on government funded health care. Go to countries that already have it. google NHS out of money.
Is the Obama proposal similar to what they have in the UK or other countries where their Healthcare system is broken? (If you know for a fact please tell me) If this is the case by all means we should avoid it.... But the reality is that ours is also already broken. There must be something better and innovative that other countries are doing already. How about the Swiss or the Swedes... I bet they must have good healthcare.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
When the final bill comes out, I will rely on AARP to tell me whether it is good or not. In AARP I trust, not some bull shit video. It seems that those who are resisting reform of the present health care system are the ones who benefit most from it, Doctor's and Insurance Companies.
to jewy, yes I have grandparents that were using Medicare, and although we pay into it it still does not cover everything, so what makes you think that this new reform that is going to cover all costs? The private pay insurance companies have made up on the costs of physicians and hospitals that the government plans or taxpayer's dollars have not been able to cover. I'm not saying anything is wrong with medicare I'm saying there is nothing wrong with private pay insurance either
God blessed us to become the nation that we are and if we don't open our eyes and realize that we're not suppose to let the government rule us but we are suppose to have a say so in what happens we will have to do what the government says instead of the government doing what we the people say.
I am a Christian as well and frankly God's will is for us to be in good health to begin with, but if we happen to need a doctor we should be able to choose who that physician is and not have to wait forever to see him or her. Government controlled healthcare is rationed healthcare and that would just be a start to a government controlled or communistic nation. Soon our jobs, the number of children we are allowed to have, and so many other things will no longer be our choice.

Rather odd to show Shiaivo's image with this.
Here was a life and death decision that the politicians who got involved against the wishes of the husband as I recall.
And it was not the government that took the final decision but the court.. Last I heard the courts were independent of government.

PATTYS1 2 years ago
That is NOT what the goverment are trying to do. It is up to the mother whether she gets an abortion or not which is something the goverment can't influence. Also what about girls pregnant through rape? Are you going to force her to give birth to a child born through rape?
raeofsunshine1234 2 years ago

If you don't want the public option don't use it, keep private insurance.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
When you start to collect SS your forced to take Medicare. Any medical provider has to go to Medicare before a secondery insurancce. The goverment made it that way. Not the pensioner's fault.
PATTYS1 2 years ago
The problem is the doctors won't want to be in the public service, and wait times will increase so much for the public service that the people without emergencies won't receive care for extremely long periods of time.

Or prove to me once and for all that you got nothin'.
progrocker69 2 years ago
My research includes the systems of the UK, Sweden, and Germany. All are experiencing financial strain. Like the US, these countries are facing a declining tax base, and they are unable to sustain the level of services currently provided. It is well documented that while it may be easy to get an appointment to see a general practitioner in each of these countries, if one needs a specialist, the wait is several months. So, given the results of my own research, I'd rather ask questions now.

True!!

They would rather trust their lives to an insurance co. board then a government run and managed by their fellow citizens.

Folks are dying everyday due to a lack of medical coverage.
alenaone 2 years ago

I get your point, milliesmom, but I can choose to do business with an insurance company or take my business elsewhere if I don't like the service they provide. The government is a monopoly. Participation in a government health care program is mandatory, not voluntary. Participation in the private sector IS voluntary and that, to me, is why it will always serve people better than a government agency that doesn't have to worry about competitors.
djredpop 2 years ago
The proposal allows you to choose your insurer. I am quite willing to allow people not to carry health insurance and to refuse care. How would we best care for those who choose not to be part of the system? If they can afford and choose not to carry, then, the ambulance should not retrieve them from the ditch for transport to the hospital which they do not pay for. But voluntary often means unattainable. Those people should be able to obtain insurance, contribute to the system they use.

What motivation do I have to go out and work 60 hours a week to make $500, when my neighbor lazes around at home all day and makes the same amount??
The only thing "spreading the wealth" is going to accomplish is creating a government dependent country...where everything should be handed to you on a silver platter...whether you earned it or not.
margettiann 2 years ago
I think the rich just should pay their fair share.
It is my opinion. Doesn't mean you have to accept it.
LLORT3 2 years ago
I so agree with you. But LLORT3 doesn't agree with either one of us. What happened to the old "HAND UP, NOT HAND OUT"? When I was down, individuals helped me. I in turn repaid the favor to someone else. This is what people do, not walk around with their hand out. Those of us that do that have the dignity we were taught as children.
PATTYS1 2 years ago
No way should hard workers share will lazy asses. The money was pooled in congress and they blew it. If you want to buy a home or car for someone, be my guest. I want to pick who I share my money with. OH and by the way, I gave more of my income to charity than the Obama's did. Guess he's good at sharing other people's money.
PATTYS1 2 years ago
You are greedy or rich then. You can afford to pay more.
I am just saying that the greedy should pay their fair share.
LLORT3 2 years ago
I am neither greedy or rich. I spent years working hard to take of me and my family. I never spent what I didn't have and made sure I saved some, so I wouldn't have to ask others. I brought my children up the same way. Share what you have with those you choose and don't buy what you can't afford. Does the word tieth mean any thing? You sound like a bittter person who maybe feels like he/she should have more than he does. Think of what you DO have and thank GOD.
PATTYS1 2 years ago
Again, just because someone has more money than you, doesn't mean they should be penalized for making good decisions. I agree that some are greedy, however, they still worked hard for their money.
I agree with Patty51...if you have the money to be able to help people out, that should be your CHOICE, not mandate.
Let's put a new spin on this. Say you were one of these "rich" people...how would you feel about being made to hand over your hard-earned money to lazy people??
margettiann 2 years ago
We don't (at all) need to encourage laziness in this country!! If we still lived by the standards that our great-grandparents lived by, our country wouldn't be in this mess!!
My grandpa always told me always sleep on a big decision involving money. If it's a car that you want...sleep on it...if it's gone when you come back, then it wasn't meant for you.
I am by no means rich...I barely get by...but I don't rely on the government for anything...I rely on God...and I'm doing fine!!
margettiann 2 years ago
I just think the rich should pay their fair share. If you are one of them, I don't mean to offend you, but I just think you should be paying more into the system if you can afford it.
I would be 100% okay with paying more of my money to the less fortunate.
LLORT3 2 years ago
Then do it. That's called charity and bless you for helping your fellow man.
However, it is NOT charitable or moral to decide how other people's money should be confiscated and redistributed.
djredpop 2 years ago
I think if the rich do not want to pay their fair share, they should be coerced into paying. Otherwise we would have anarchy.
Let's remember, your recession was caused by the rich hogging up all the money and leaving the rest of USA with no money to buy cars and houses, so instead the middle class went into debt.
LLORT3 2 years ago
If the problem was "the rich", then why is the entire world not in an eternal recession / depression? The wealthy have always been greedy. The smoking gun in all of this was the availability of easy money, i.e. credit cards, home and auto loans to people who were living beyond their means. When the market "corrected" last year, those people found themselves unable to pay off their debts, making things worse.
djredpop 2 years ago
It's never the rich's fault, eh.
LLORT3 2 years ago
The rich buy the yachts, build factories, hire people, etc. Every dollar "coerced" from them is one less dollar that could be paid to an employee, spent on equipment upgrades, etc. Even if they choose to stuff it in a mattress, it's THEIR MONEY, not "ours". Most millionaires in the US are first generation. They didn't inherit their wealth. They didn't steal it. They didn't win the lottery. They worked hard, saved, invested, and profited. It's THEIR MONEY.

the rich pay for this and that
what i am saying is they will start to pay their fair share, your country will rise up and march on wall street soon

Then why don't you move to Cuba...Money has been evenly distributed there for years and look how far the country has gone. Everyone wins alright, that's why every cuban owns a car and a home, right? You are being fed a line by the health care industry, through your churches. The only ones served by not overhauling the health industry is the health care industry. The US spends over 2 trillion dollars per year on health care but rates at the bottom of all industrialized countries in the most basic of measurements. This stuff about socialism and abortions is meant to distract you from what is important. I have the best health care that money can buy, but most of you do not, that's a fact.

If 87% of Americans don't want this disaster of a governmental program, WHY are we even having this discussion?
sweetbamabelle 2 years ago 2
THat is a very interesting statistic about 87% of American's being satisfied with their health care. I am a physicist so I am pretty good with numbers. If 50 million Americans have no health insurance that means that 20% of Americans have no health care but the emergency room. If 87% of Americans are satisfied with their health care (a number far far higher than any number I have ever seen elsewhere) that would mean that at least 7% of the people with no health care are satisfied with that?
captwildbilly 2 years ago
No, I think what the stats mean is that 87% of people who have health care are happy with their current coverage. It doesn't take a rocket scientist (or a physicist, in your case) to figure that one out.
BIitzed 2 years ago 3
If you people will read the health care bill, doctors ARE limited to certain amounts they will be paid for services. Certainly many doctors will leave their practices. That's why rationing happened in Canada, in Britain, in France, and in Switzerland. The ONLY country with a successful "public" health care service is ISRAEL. But then, they do care about their people.

Abortions are funded by the Health Care bill. Abortions are murder. What's to debate about that. Christians do not wish to fund murder. We do not want our money being used in that manner. Therefore, we will not fund gov. healthcare.

I do not recall anything about abortions in the health care bill, other than that perhaps they might be covered by a health insurance plan, like any other insurance.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
From National Right to Life:
"The Kennedy bill would result in the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade," said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. "It would result in federally mandated coverage of abortion by nearly all health plans, federally mandated recruitment of abortionists by local health networks, and nullification of many state abortion laws. It would also result in federal funding of abortion on a massive scale."
ladydi5319 2 years ago
You qoute the National RIght To Life as though that was an unbiased source of information? You have got to be kidding. I can just see the movie parody of someone stating with a serious face that the National Right to Life is a reliable souce of information about Planned Parenthood or right to choose perspectives
captwildbilly 2 years ago
You know PPs main business is abortions & that they use our tax money to kill human beings!
From AP 7/22/09 - Democratic lawmakers opposed to federal funding for abortions said the House leadership's health care bill contains a "hidden mandate" that would allow taxpayer dollars to be used to end pregnancies.
"We cannot support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan," 20 Dems.
ladydi5319 2 years ago
No basis in fact?? Watch 1:15-1:43 again. It is CLEARLY stated that Planned Parenthood will receive funding under the bill. Planned Parenthood is responsible for +250,000 abortions every year. I'm sure even a "Homer Simpson type" like you can put two and two together.
BIitzed 2 years ago
First of all using a reference to this video as fact is clearly misunderstanding the nature of facts. Second, Planned Parenthood is not primarilly an abortion provider, but rather a provider of family planning services not unlike what any family doctor would provide. Saying that Planned Parenthood can recieve funding from this bill in no way suggests that the bill is intended to increase the number of abortions. Finally, Planned Parenthood does not tell anyone to have an abortion.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
What I cited was Congressional testimony... it may have been included in this video, but that has absolutely zero bearing on its factuality. I don't think Sen. Barbara Mikulski would lie about whether or not PP was receiving funding in the bill she helped write. Furthermore, I don't care if they do other things besides providing abortions. The fact of the matter is that they DO perform a quarter of a million abortions annually. For many, that's taxpayer money funding genocide.
BIitzed 2 years ago 3
There is absolutely no historical evidence that any country that went to a national health care system had any of the things described in this video ever happen. If you look at all those health plans that the health care industry is warning about us, Canada, England, France, etc., in every one of those countries plus many many more, the longevity of it's people and infant mortality, and virtually every other quantatative measure of the health of that countries health, is better than the USA.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
I can see why you call yourself " Wild" because all of your assertions are, too.
No, the facts are the opposite of what you say. I lived in England and Australia. The elderly are denied treatment simply because of their age, and younger people are denied treatment if it is deemed to be too expensive.
111942sta 2 years ago 2
The bottom line is the bottom line, in the US we pay twice as much as any other country on earth for health care, yet by virtually every objective maesure of the health of our people we are almost at the bottom of industrialized countries. Both England and Australia rate much higher than the US in virtually every catagory. I do not know if it is true that what you say about care being denied someone due to cost or age in those countries, but whatever they are doing is working better than ours.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
The reform needs to be in the TORT's & ABUSE, NOT in the CARE!
Yet I don't hear any libs or people like you saying that is where the reform needs to be!

But Obama care will keep giving ILLEGALS free medical care & letting the lawyers sue.
Your outrage should be towards YOUR government's refusal to FIX the ABUSE by lawsuits and illegals!

At that rate the US could cut it's health care costs to only 2 times the next most expensive country on earth, instead of 2.1 times the next most expensive.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
Malpractice insurance, like all insurances, is based on risk. The more of a risk your specialty is, the higher the premium.
So why does your friend make so much? I mean after all, I thought the liberals were complaining that the greedy doctors charging too much was the reason our healthcare sucks & needs to be government run.
Under Obama care your friend will not make what he is making now! Obama will regulate his salary like he is doing to Wall Street and GM!
See Liberty Counsel
ladydi5319 2 years ago

I think you and your doctor friend need to read their overview.
ladydi5319 2 years ago
Every insurance policiy in America specifies limits on what a doctor can charge for proceedures, why would government health insurance not do the same thing? Can you imagine what would happen if there were no limits on what a doctor could charge for a proceedure? How about $1000 office visits or $10,000 to set a broken arm (well maybe some doctors are already charging that, but you get the idea). Anyone is free to pay their doctor what they want, but no insurance will pay unlimited amounts.
captwildbilly 2 years ago
Right now with private insurance, most doctors and hospitals have contractual agreements or allowed amounts which they accept as payment in full.
Doctors can charge $250.00 for a check-up, but say the insurance company only allows $50.00 for that service, then the doctor writes off the difference of $200.00 on his taxes!
The problem with our health care is NOT with the CARE it is with ILLEGALS and TORTs. Maybe once your doctor friend gets sued, you will understand the real problem.
ladydi5319 2 years ago
Government run healthcare WILL put limits on what a doctor can charge AND what a doctor can make!
Stop defending this if you are not going to read the bill yourself! If you had gone to Liberty Counsel you would have found this:
Sec. 1121, Pg. 241, Lines 6-8 - Doctors, it does not matter what specialty you have; youll all be paid the same. Service categories established under this paragraph shall apply without regard to the specialty of the physician furnishing the service.

BldngABetterWorld 2 years ago
This is laughable. It is Canadians and others that come to the U.S. to get treatment and tests that are greatly delayed or denied to them at home.
Americans are healthier! We wait far less time for procedures and surgeries. Our life expectancy with virtually any major disease is longer. And if you do not count deaths from violent crime and automobile accidents, we also have the longest life expectancy
111942sta 2 years ago 2
If you have money (or a good Healthcare plan) then there is no better place than the U.S. to get treated for a major illness. People with means certainly travel to the U.S. to get treated. My point is that there are too many americans that can't afford to get treated at home so they go outside their borders to get treated. I didn't read this in some website, I see it with my own eyes here in Mexico. Go talk to the people who can't afford their premiums for a reality check.

Surely some of the money could help care for your own poor!
fatdanios 2 years ago
Public healthcare in Mexico is not good... the mexican goverment cares little for its poor ( this is shameful). It is the private healthcare I get in Mexico that I find superior than the U.S.... why? It is quite good and it costs about a fourth of what I would pay for something equivalent in the States.... and there is no waiting either... Your system has gotten to be too expensive... less and less people are able to afford it as time goes by; keep it private if you wish but make it affordable.
BldngABetterWorld 2 years ago
Unfortunately you are looking at details and not the big picture. At the end of the day Americans do not live as long as the people in almost any other industrialized nation, and we have higher infant mortality than almost any other industrialized nation. There is no question that we spend a huge amount of money on health care, but the question is what do we get for it? You can cherry pick a few areas in which the stats seem to indicate some advantage, but in the end we do worse.

BldngABetterWorld 2 years ago
Lack of insurance is not an obstacle to abortion now. Therefore universal coverage wont increase the rate of abortion. If I'm wrong, why does the video not site skyrocketing abortion rates with the inception of other universal coverage plans?
Britain's problems would not necessarily be duplicated. That's like using a documentary on Nixon's shortcomings to argue against democracy anywhere else in the world.
For those without health insurance, most anything is better than nothing.

I am a Christian and an old school conservative and I can always tell who has been watching FOX news a little too much. God wants to bless everyone not just the wealthy that can afford the expensive premiums. Read your Bible and you will find that God establishes goverment to rule over us and we must abide by its authority. Old school.
BldngABetterWorld 2 years ago
Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's but the Bible does not tell us to put the government above God. We have been given the right by our government to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Our government has given us the right to free speech and to question it's authority. This bill is unconstitutional on many levels (govt may enter your home & have access to your records). Our Constitution gives us the right to demand that our politicians put US first not them or their party.
backtotheday 2 years ago 2
God's law is above all goverment law. We agree on that. The Bible doesn't tell us however to question goverment authority... it tells us to question its laws... subtle but there is a difference. I will not obey a goverment law if it breaks God's. Helping the poor and oppressed is God's mandate, so it is to love your enemies."Fight evil with good" says The Lord. Our Constitution is not infallible, the Bible is... we must improve on our earthly laws until they match the spirit of the heavenly law.

Your argument makes little sense. The President himself said "I have a great medical plan...

I'm all for making the bill acceptable before it's passed. We are in agreement.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
When the final bill comes out, I will rely on AARP to tell me whether it is good or not. In AARP I trust, not some bull shit video. It seems that those who are resisting reform of the present health care system are the ones who benefit most from it, Doctor's and Insurance Companies.

No need for a bill to euthanise anyone, that is already taking place.

to jewy, yes I have grandparents that were using Medicare, and although we pay into it it still does not cover everything, so what makes you think that this new reform that is going to cover all costs? The private pay insurance companies have made up on the costs of physicians and hospitals that the government plans or taxpayer's dollars have not been able to cover. I'm not saying anything is wrong with medicare I'm saying there is nothing wrong with private pay insurance either

We've had nationalized healthcare for seniors since the 1960s! And since then the mortality rate for seniors has been 100%! All eventually die!

I don't care if Lieberman is taken out by a Dem, Repubilcan, Independent, or even someone from the Bull Moose Party.
HE IS TOTALLY OWNED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANIES -- AND MUST GO!

Have you ever met anyone on Medicare? They have a government health care plan. Is Medicare awful? Are Medicare recipients Communists?
