  • RIP Raheem even though you were a fictional character

  • This is the most ignorant shit I have ever seen. I have never been so fucking angry watching a movie. Almost every character is an ignorant fuck with a bad attitude for no God damn reason..black or white.

  • This movie was bull. Kept hearing it was one of the best, but after watching it I couldn't disagree more. Only good thing was Sweet Dick Willie.

  • @GetchaEdOuchass man this movie was funny sad entertaining and realistic

and that damn smiley was determined to put black faces on the wall lol

  • someone needs to mute that bitch mother sister

  • fucks knows what spike lee was thinking when he made this film? was he trying to insight more hatred? this paints black people as lazy, unreasonable, stupid, animals, and defys everything i have previously learnt, spike lee you cunt

  • @freedompeaceandtruth this was a tough time period of race issues, black people are far from lazy, many of my co workers damn near all of them when i was a school bus driver, and working for metro, yeah they partied hard sometimes even on weekdays and drank a lot of alcohol but damn even though they may have slept at 2:00 a.m. they got up at 5:30 a.m. showed up to work at 6:15 a.m. and were squared away and showed no signs of slacking, and worked very very hard, i'd like to see a whitey do that

  • raheem rest in peace they will miss u

  • $ Spike Lee is so brooklyn $

  • but hey you guys gotta remeber THAT sal was calling them niggas and stuff just a reminder

  • this hole story was about race but this??!! i dont realy understand

  • this is so fukin stupid all that ova some stupid ass pictures

  • @jsking11 thats wat makes the mvie the best movie in the world

  • You. Me. Same. Beautiful.

  • Sals restaurant gets burned down because a disrespectful guy with a radio blasting gets KILLED by the police in a struggle? Raheem was also choking the shit out of Sal and for what? All because there was nothing but pictures of Italians on the wall of a place OWNED by an Italian that served Italian food?! This is the EPIC story writing that made this movie so great!

  • @vamtheanomaly he was chokin sal because music is a peaceful way 2 solve things but sal was acting like a big pasta eatin fuck

  • @mugface2468 LOL I read that aloud "big pasta eatin fuck". However although I understand what you said, I was lookin at it in a realistic way. If I owned a business I wouldnt want someone comin in blastin music.

  • @mugface2468 raheem didn't use his music in a peaceful way at all.

  • @vamtheanomaly Finally someone get's the movie. It's almost like a test, what upsets you more: someone getting killed or someone's property being destroyed. A lot of white guy's think this movie is anti-white when they're really missing the point

  • @711DAS white ignorance

  • @Chemp2010 Yea something like that...... the movie aint really supposed to make the viewer comfortable, it's supposed to make them think

    Like a Clockwork Orange

  • @711DAS i never isnt wasnt be thanx for the reminder

  • @711DAS Im white and I thought the movie was "anti-pizza" :/

  • are the black people suppose to be good? they dont seem good. They seem like a bunch of assholes

  • for school I used to wake up like this 6:15

  • i no whiteeee i no whiteee !!

  • i black

  • MOOKIE NEEDED TO THROW THAT GARBAGE CAN AT THE WINDOW OTHER WISE SAL AND HIS SONS WERE GONNA GET BEAT UP

  • because you dont fucking listen mookie..... i luv that part lml

  • you me same. I'm not white, I'm black.

  • mookie was henpecked by his lil baby's mama. cant ( will never) be me !

  • BETTER LISTEN TO DA MAYOR!

  • rosie perez is a bad ass baby mama!

  • @easy8325 I'll put my beef on her taco!!!

  • the water canon reminds me of the fire hydrant they were playing in earlier.

  • THIS IS A PRELUDE TO THE LA RIOTS THAT HAPPENED 3 YEARS LATER!!!

  • Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee are the underlying heroes of this movie... And its not a coincidence that they were married in real life

  • @cyrilmpacko1

What was heroic about Ruby Dee's character? She was one of the people yelling "Burn it down!"

  • I am sure this is what Martin Luther King and Malcom X wanted... Fucking animals are doing the exact opposite of what they preached.

  • @mohab18 Yea, and your not doing much by calling "them" whoever "they" are FUCKING ANIMALS. Oh...and then have the audacity to put Martin & Malcolm in there.

    You need to WAKE UP!!

  • @GurlCaa

Call them the way I see them.

  • it's an issue of public/private space and how this can be understood in different ways. Is the pizzeria a private space because it's a business? Or is it a public space because it is a place where people in the neighborhood hang out? Can it be both? Can it operate according to the "rules" of Italians and African-Americans (whose pictures are on the wall is about this) or does it have to choose? There is no clear answer, as the film demonstrates.

  • 1:22

  • This waa an Italian Pizzaria there was no need to have afro-american pictures on the wall. I have been to black businesses nothing but pix of blacks the same for Native American Hispanic White or any other race or culture. Ok yes you spend much money there but that was your choice.

  • great movie

  • the balls of the dude, he threw the trash can to the place starting a riot and then ask for his money.

  • say what you want about me but i find it annoying af when that old bitch keeps screamin "NOOOOO NOO" :P

  • He went to pick up his check???

I would've shot that asshole myself.

  • This movie showed me that we are all barbaric and animal like creatures, and society is the only thing that keeps us some what civalized. But there are moments like this where our primative and barbaric roots become visable.

  • @obxguitarist is driving in a cars what you call civilized? Or is ordering clothes online civilized?

  • @obxguitarist You're so right, it doesn't matter whether you're black, white, Hispanic, Asian or whatever, we are all HUMANS, and humans, if you really think about it, are actually Animals, inhabitants of this Planet Earth!

  • I love this movie. It is my favourite Lee's and summer's film with "Summer of Sam".

  • Moral of the story: Don't trust NIGGERS!

  • @SJMcFly WOW.. I shouldn't even waiste my time replying to such IGNORANCE like what you wrote but im goin to. Do you know the actual definition of NIGGER? It stands for ignorant. That is what you are. So you are basically sayin not to trust youself. Its ppl like you who motivate me. You motivate me to educate ppl like you. Its offensive but also funny how you could say these things. The Moral of the story is hoe RACISM is still around today. What you just said is a PRIME example.

  • @MrsKornegay1 it's "waste" not "waiste". You really must have been livid while typing. I'm glad to see that I motivate you, but please don't waste your time on me. Direct your energy towards issues that really matter. Thank you.

  • @SJMcFly Okay thank you for correcting that typo I made. I was not livid on any kinds of means while I posted this comment, but obviously you were. I direct my energy towards many issues around the world. Racism seems to be one of the most important issues in my eyes. I don't know you. I don't know your religous background, morals, or values. Maybe you were raised off of hatred, racism, and just close mindedness. Obviously you are a livid person with inhumane perception on life itself. Thank you

  • @MrsKornegay1 "Obviously you're vexed; with an inhumane perception of life. Thank you." In my opinion; this would have been a stronger closing sentence. This will be the last time I reply to your comments. It's nothing personal, It's just asinine to me now.

  • Where's Don Imus when you need him?

  • @Bromden75 Fuck a don imus, he'll prob just comment on mooky and pino's nappy headed afros lol

  • Da Mayor asked Eddie (a minor) to purchase beer for him - that is not doing the right thing....aside from that mini episode, Da Mayor did the right thing for much of the movie.

  • To Make It Short If Mookie Wouldn't Have Thrown That Trash Can At Sal's Pizzeria The Angry Mob Would Have Took All Of Their Anger Out On Sal And His Two Sons, And If The Mayor Wouldn't Have Move Sal Away From The Pizzeria Sal Would Have Tried To Save It Himself Thus The Mob Killing Him And Letting His Body Burned With His Pizzeria. So In Summary, The Mayor And Mookie Did The Right Thing. THE END

  • @Shiba360

i think you got the point of this vid..

  • @Shiba360 And if Buggin out would've left sal alone and ate somewhere else, radio raheem would still be alive, the italians would still have their pizza joint and mook would still be employed!

  • Damn ROsie Perez is so god damn annoying in this movies. Never shuts the fuck up.

  • THEY SHOULD HAVE SMOKED THAT KOREAN STORE, AND YELLED , REMEMBER KOREA, MUTHA F--KA!

  • Yeah, I mean the whole point of this film is that noone should take sides- we are all human beings crammed onto the planet at the same time and need to learn how to get the fuck along. It always amazes me when people think one side is "right" or "wrong". This is the more difficult (the right thing) to do, but if we are to evolve as a species it is a must. Some people simply don't want to, because hate is easier.

  • 0:13 = "fuckin' niggers"

    John Turturro's Delivery = lol.

  • Sal should have stayed in Bensonhurst, it's where I grew up, its also where he would feel at home. As a kid I never go into north Brooklyn

  • the korean guy is very right it doesnt matter if we are black, white, asian, jewish, hispanic, latino we are all the same inside and bleed the same blood

  • yo that was some real nigga shit man.. burnin down the pizza shop. im black yo and this was indeed some nigga shit. i hope black people get it together cause even i can see foolishness. bullshit... i love pizza.

  • @Sharinkugan16 I love Pizza, too. More than chicken. I agree w/ you... They stilled shouldn't have killed Raheem, though...

  • The Mayor and Mother Sister Got It In ...They try to act like the didnt...lol Rubie D and Ossie Davis 2 of my most favorite actors ever.

  • Racial violence does not solve anything. I think Da Mayor had more common sense even though he drank a lot and did dangerous things.

  • @1f5sda The radio, the group in pizzeria, the weather, the dumb person, and the match that is light are all metaphors to a bigger picture.

  • @beetz15s Well said!

  • I want to smack tina. all she does is complain about how little of a man mookie is, but he's trying to GO TO HIS JOB and GET PAID to TRY AND SUPPORT HER AND THEIR CHILD. smh the men in my town don't even do half as much as he does.

  • I'm sorry but Rosie Perez ain't got shit but a body. Her hair in this movie is fugly, her voice is annoying, her face ain't all that either.

  • @eazyegee Kanye West said it best

  • mama sister is a bitch

  • kids a heavy sleeper lol

  • The film should've ended at 5:22

  • Oh, yeah, also Raheem is wearing brass knuckles. Lethal weapon, much?

  • People keep saying that EVERYONE did the wrong thing (With the exception of Mayor), but the problem with that argument is that you are weighing everyone's wrongful actions equally. The absolute worst thing Sal did was break Raheem's radio, whereas the worst thing Raheem did was try to beat the shit out of Sal. Had the cops never came in the first place, Sal would have been significantly less wrong (and likely in the hospital), which is why he is the victim in the film.

  • The Point of this movie is that the blacks in this movie are animals. not all blacks are this way of course. But dont friggen tell me what they did was right.

  • @retroman1019 yeah like the white cop choking out Radio Raheem and white firefighters spraying the powerhose on the crowd wasn't barbaric? save it really!

  • @TheDVoted I guess you are right that was pretty sick. The whole situation was a total mess. I apologize its not really blacks and whites so much as it is good and bad. I appreciate the comment. Peace.

  • Osie Davis and Ruby Dee baby!

  • that's the quintessntail truth ruth

  • RADIO RAHEEM!!!!

  • Rosie Perez look so fuckn sexy sitn there in them lil white panties

  • thats the quintessntial truth ruth

  • you all missed the message of this movie. Look outside the box for once. Stepping out of the color scheme, VIOLENCE is not the answer. You solve NOTHING with violence.

  • This movie is powerful on so many levels. A lot of you think that this movie is enforcing stereotypes. No, there's so many overtones and undertones about how racism and stereotypes leads to only problems and ignorance. Also, almost no matter what happens the vicious cycle of racism will still happen. That is why the movie starts and ends on a hot day and the DJ shouting "WAKE UP".

  • @lolo2000bm .same as spike lee's movie SCHOOL DAZE at the end of the movie the message is WAAAAKKKEE UUUPPP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • I swear this film re-enforces stereotypes and goes against everything it set out to do.

  • i've seen this movie at least 80 times and all i see is black ppl being racist sal was kool he got along with the whole hood,so fuk mooki, and radio raheem ,i love this movie though just a day in the hood when anything can happen

  • Sorry but the dude with the radio is a mental case if he is going to start shit over a lack of black people on a wall in a private establishment. I would have broken him in half if he came into my joint with that shit talk.

  • all of this because of music and no black people on the wall

  • Damm! i didnt know the ittalian went hard on all races! the hate blackes more that the white ppl.

  • Damm! i didnt know the ittalian went hard on all races! the hate blackes more that the white ppl.

  • The fucked up part is...NO ONE DESERVED ANY OF THIS SHIT.

  • @AirKangLocker yes the black people did they started trouble and deserved it

  • @AndrewS1178 wat i meant was Sal didnt deserve to be attack brutally. He did say nigger but rational people would not bring loot and chaos just by that cause. Raheem was a menace but he didnt deserve to be killed; police are not suppose to kill people with the crime being a menace. The other cop said to stop, but he didnt, which can be interpreted as personal hatred. And first off, its was bugginoff and raheem's fault to storm someone's property and troll them just because they mad.

  • This is like a prequel to Idiocracy. In virtually every scene, the characters behave irrationally, incoherently, and shortsightedly. Where's the philosophy? Where's the rationality?

  • i love this Movie finally something realistic ...Everything doesnt have a good ending but they all moved on.

  • Leave the Korean alone man, He's all right!

  • Unemployed welfare recipients with nothing better to do than bring their property values to an all time low. Its like 2 am and all of them are up which tells you they dont have jobs to go to in the morning. And they bitch and complain that they have runned down neighborhoods because no one wants to invest in their rat hole neighborhoods due to their barbaric behavior.

  • @anomaly48 You are so completely wrong and retarded you should kill yourself.

  • @lavishmcronald " youre wrong...go kill yourself" so where is youre explanation to why im wrong?? Shouldnt you be on a welfare line collecting my tax dollars.

  • @anomaly48 You are simplifying and generalizing the situations of poor people and arguing that it is all their fault. Not only is that retarded, your statement is instantly made false because you're generalizing millions of people. That is plain silly. Bitch about are military budget before trying to complain about how people trying to feed themselves and their families and spending your tax dollars to survive in a country that is completely corrupt and shitty. Thanks to rich power hungry asshlz

  • what a shame....

    flashback '67 riots

  • what a shame....

  • i never understood why mother sister yells "burn it down burn it down" at the begginin of the fire then the NOOOOO NOOOO NOOOO bullshit thats annoying as fuck. 3:40 SONNNNN OF A BITCHHHHHHHHHH!

  • 4:00 noooooo!!!!! nooooo!!

  • I know white folks saw that shit @1:31 and last they're damn mind like"WTF?"

  • i feel that EVERYONE was wrong some way in this movie, not just one race, but EVERYONE....

  • @TheBritt19 nope Mayor was the only person doing the right thing.

  • i thought radio raheem was already dead? 2:56

  • 3:45 - 4:34: Chinatown

  • Mookie saved Sal's life by smashing the window, because he shifted the anger away from the white man and to the white establishment

  • @edgehead111 I'm not sure I got that Mookie "saved" Sal when I first saw this in 1989, and I still think it's ambiguous, either because Lee's not a strong actor or because, since he is a great writer/director, he wanted to leave it ambiguous. I'm not sure you're supposed to believe that Mookie calculated that it would have that effect unless you're supposed to believe that he's the only one with a cool head (when the point is that *nobody* could be cool after the day and Radio Rasheem's murder).

  • Comment removed

  • So how was burning down Sal's pizza place going to solve anything? Is rioting going to help the situation? What is it about blacks and rioting?

  • sal is the real victim in this film

  • @blablaman233 no buggin out is

  • @blablaman233

Mookie saves his life because the crowd was about to kill him.

  • No one actually did the right thing in this movie. Side Note:Don't fuck with nobody, and don't let nobody fuck with you. Trust me, you'll live longer (unlike Radio Raheem).

  • @antigoniem06

    SPOILERS

Wrong. Only one man did the right thing in this move, Da Mayor. The one man who was perceived to be lacking morals was the only one to walk the walk. Everyone else showed there true ignorant colors at the end, even mother sister when she said "Burn It Down!" Radio Raheem was ignorant and disrespectful towards other as he simply blasted music everywhere without consideration. Buggin' Out was trying to tell Sal how to run his "home," and Smiley joined in the debacle.

  • @pandasweater True, true, but was he wrong for arguing with the Vietnamese store owners when they told him they didn't have anymore Miller High Life? My thought after reading your comment, is that it's just a minor character flaw. IDK I may be wrong and reading too far into it.

  • @pandasweater Exactly. Let's not even get started on how the mob hypocritically decide to not burn down the Korean's store because 'he's alright'. It seems that the only people who truly live well are the ones who never talk about morality...he who knows does not say...I long for the day when we will channel aggression properly, and overcome the fear that makes these tragedies occur. but that will only occur with individual awakening in the midst of more great evils...

  • @Scratch47 They didn't burn down his store because he said "I'm black too." They both face racism.

  • @pandasweater He still played a fkn victim over his life which in the end was his own fault

  • @pandasweater umm how bout mookie? if he hadnt thrown the trash can into sal's place then everyone would put there anger on sal vito and pino and yea..

  • @pandasweater What about Jade?

  • @pandasweater love daddy also did the right thing

  • @pandasweater This would have never happen if radio raheem's name was I pod raheem smh

  • @pandasweater But Da Mayor was racist and abusive toward the Korean grocers toward the beginning of the movie. What's great about the movie is that no one is 100% good or 100% bad, they're a mixture of both. Just like real life. This movie is one of the most true and believable ever.

  • @jamieandrews

mookie is an awful person, how can he ask for the money when he throw the can to the pizzeria..

  • @nayita85 Well. Honestly I think Mookie did that so the angry mob would turn their attention to the store, and away from sal and his family. In a wierd way he did it to keep more people from getting hurt.

  • I love the part at 3:40: "SON-OF-A-BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

  • They should lock them up in pzzeria and burn up together... all of them.

  • If I was Sal, i wouldn't give motherfucking Mookie any money. I'd tell tim to go and fuck himself.

  • @bluecatky you do understand mookie saved his life right

  • @WesAfrican yea thats true im mixed with white and italian

  • but on another note they didnt have to burn down the pizzeria, thats just uncalled for. They didnt do the right thing

  • True and also People need to know the difference between African and Black. We have totally different lifestyles

and blacks are mostly mixed with white that's why we're darker than them. We are not the same we may have the same ethnicity but still not the same

  • I've always been a little confused about Ruby Dee's performance in this sequence. One minute she's screaming "Burn it down, burn it down'' and the next she's overcome by the whole thing. Perhaps she's reacting to the fact that things have gone too far. Not sure.

  • the same people that lotted a store and burned it to the ground are yelling power to the people when the cops come he really captured the true human nature in this ignorant world, especially when spike lees character who was accepted by the italians as a son starts the riot in the first place, thank God I am not american

  • Mookis girlfriend is the reason why divorce has almost doubled in this country...

  • Is it about the black man on the wall? Is it about Sal building the place with his own hands?? what I find very interesting, is that 20 years ago, spike lee said that the black man did not have access to power - perhaps we should direct Mr. Lee to the African American Legislators today, at the federal level?? or perhaps simply 4 words. President Barak Hussein Obama - Black President with a Muslim Family -I think Mr. Lee was mistaken and bought into Political correctness - good luck Mr. Lee

  • FIRST OF ALL THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO Obama's family was not Muslim his dad was not even it is a name just like a black person naming there son malik when it was originally for Muslims and also what is your definition of a black man. Def. is 2 African based ethnicitys giving birth 2 a baby. that is black. Obama's Mama is White and Obama Dad is straight from Kenya not African American he is as much white as he is black stop getting it twisted

  • wat were they chantin to the police

  • @thenextalleniverson1 I think they were chanting "power to the people", that's what I think

  • I understand he needed the money but dude Sal needs the money more than Mookie did at that moment. Sure he saved his life but still Mookie should've been more considerate...but then again its a movie to teach a lesson.

  • oh yeah and mother sister thought he died cause i know when i first saw it that's what i thought. but i dont know why he was just walking around in there

  • first of all Mother Sister is screaming ''no'' because Smiley died in the fire, didnt you notice the last you saw of him was when he lit that match. and second of all this movie is not just speaking for african americans. a mass number of just about every race has racist ppl. in the movie everyone had some anger towards another race and the moral is too just stop the hatred. like the correan said 'we are all the same', and like the mayor told mookie, 'always do the RIGHT thing'

  • Did anybody else get the feeling during this movie that they just wanted to shout out and tell everyone to just stop and calm down? I live in howard beach, new york and cant stand when the italians(im italian and puerto rican myself) are racist to every dark skinned person that comes into my neighborhood.
