The Chinese kill millions of sea horses every year for use in traditional Chinese medicine - specifically Chinese "viagra." They're going extinct! OKSteele, the plural is fish if all of them are of the same species, and fishes if there are different kinds of fish in the group that is being described.

But this is not a hard rule to be followed. Fish/es is called an isogloss. It can go either way. You can say, "I have three fishes", even if they all the same type. But to show separation between species some use "fishes". I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just saying that it's not set in stone like you make it out to be.
