  • Replacement hose kits come with new barbs, in case the hose is damaged in a way that damages the barb(s) as well. So the replacement procedure offers the quickest, easiest way to replace all of the parts. If you're just shortening the hose, there's no need for a replacement kit, so you won't need to deal with the barbs.

  • why is the hose shortening procedure different from the hose replacement procedure??? when you shorten the hose you dont replace the barb but when you change the hose you do...

  • @pinner86, it's simple, you'll see. When we cut the old hose, that operation nicks a ragged groove into the length of the barb, as you cut through the hose. So, the barb is nasty and can damage the integrity of the new hose. Therefore, replace the barb with a nice new one. See? I've never done this before, but, there you are. Trek Lime Orange.
