Yeah, it's kind of screwed up. Seems there are no gigs for ace drummers these days. I totally agree with the other posters: Tony Royster Jr. is doing this badass, keepin' it real, street cred thing, trying to fit in. Perhaps this is his way of defending himself, getting along with his team. Who knows, perhaps he has been called "smartass college boy" a few times too many, so he is faking it. Tony still remains one of my favorite drummers ever: killer chops and very, very soulful and musical.
it should be called Jay Z tony Roysters singer not the other way about Jay Z has good lyrics and probably 1 of the best rappers ever but it takes years of practice and dedication to master the drums like Tony. In fairness i wud say to a certain extent hes naturally unbelievable but to im sure at least 50 percent is down to practice

Yeah, it's kind of screwed up. Seems there are no gigs for ace drummers these days. I totally agree with the other posters: Tony Royster Jr. is doing this badass, keepin' it real, street cred thing, trying to fit in. Perhaps this is his way of defending himself, getting along with his team. Who knows, perhaps he has been called "smartass college boy" a few times too many, so he is faking it. Tony still remains one of my favorite drummers ever: killer chops and very, very soulful and musical.

@drumhead23us I don't think it's 'to be expected' at all cause he toured with a rapper, I think it's a conscious decision to talk that way and he's young, it doesn't just happen, not all black people talk this way, but some start adding this 'third person' element into their conversations that I find just plain bizarre, not saying it's bad, but his delivery does lend itself to a gangsta mentality, which is not great for the kids that look up to him, don't u think. @vigilverse2 drums isnt about endurance, while a metal drummer can play his double kick all night long, all week long, drummers like tony, like aaron and many more will play in there churches will do the big gigs with the world famous artists and play in the jazz clubs all nigh every night, and while there not doing that, there laying tracks down in the studio, metals the same repetitive distorted shit time after time, grow up take your nail paint off cut your hair and listen to some real music.

@superjam18 I think that's true for a lot of working musicians, get paid to play simple stuff, do the hard stuff for fun. Because the majority most listeners don't like their music too complicated, pop/rap/country...still gotta have skills to play it, but u don't need a music degree from Berklee.

I think Tony is an awesome drummer. The man has more talent than you and me put together X's ten.
