i was so bummed i got to 70% completion saved and exited loged back on and was back to 43%... then i got angry and turned off the whole system on the spot. i had returned later and was reset to 26%.... i'm done playing for some time now...

I went to bed last night with 76% completion....I am actually nervous about checking it today -__- If it isn't at 76% completion when I turn it on then I hate to say it but I am returning this game.
I was level 3 and got to level 8 in few hours (I did more research for cool weapons and got lucky) But I turned off the console and whe ni turned it one again it was on level 3 again! So i made 1 mission and then quited the game through the menu. Checked the saved game and THERE IT WAS... it worked... but im so pissed I dont think im gonna play it till the update.
@hazardousgamer okay, so, I've just played for like a couple of hours and almost got back to where i was before... my question is: since i didn't know about having to set the game to single player mode, can i just sign out, and still have the game save normally while the setting is still in online co-op mode? I don't want to turn my system off -__- fml.
@waterpologuy8 umm. right. you cant switch to singleplayer in-game :/ before i figured out that i had to switch to singleplayer in order to save, when i quit the game while having the settings on co-op, when i went into game on the main menu, the save was still there from where i left off. so try quitting, then go to game --> online settings, switch to singleplayer. then go back in-game, quit the game so it saves then it might work. but i can guarentee anything. good luck
today i played 3 fucking hours in the jungle, got tons of shit done, lvled up several times, got AWESOME new weapons, 40k, sidequests, ect. so i pressed start and then triangle, pressed play in the main menu, checked it (76 percent) and then i quit the game. started playing about 3 hrs later and then it was at 72 percent. fml im going to stop playing this game soon, but this gave me some hope...
i got 75% done with this. i was in the jungle and all that. but then decided to get off for the day. I tried getting back on today and i am now at 10% complete and on chapter 2. pissed me off

It is saving. This is the only sure fire way to get it to save. To bad it took me 3 play sessions to figure it out. But it's all good now jus have to wait for the patch b4 I can play wit my friends

since watching this vid saving has worked fine 4 me. My first 2 days of playing i lost everything but i switched it from co op to single player and from playstation network to LAN and its saving fine now. If this doesnt work for every1 i dont no what will. im now on chapter 9 n i got some mean weapons.
Okay, I figured out how to get the game to autosave again. This works, believe me. Before this, I was playing day after day and nothing would save and I would start back at my last game save each time, pissing me off to no end. There is a simple solution. Go into your game data folder and find the game data for Dead Island and delete it. Yes, delete the game data but NOT the game saves! The stupid update is what caused this to happen, so the update wont have affect anymore. You're welcome
@pinkypimpalicous that dont work i mean i played on chapter 12 and the game saved icon would appear i turn it off for about an hour and it take me back to chapter 7
@fireball544 it works well enough to get your game saving again, but there are still some things that need ironed out. Some days, my game saves with no trouble. Other times, I am playing (and even after its autosaved) the game will stop saving and even stop communicating with the network. It wont send my trophies to facebook and I can't find anyone in the lobbies to play with. Even when this happens, I can't even select the lobby as an option. I hope this gets fixed soon.
@fireball544 yeah thats exactly what I did. Deleted the game data (not the saves, of course) and set it to single player. Now I can set it to playstation network instead of local and it saves....not all the time but pretty often...often enough, anyways. I always just do a challenge or trophy here and there to make sure its saving. If they don't show up on facebook or register on your PS3's trophies, its not saving, so restart your game as soon as possible.

Yea you can set it to single player but if you keep playing it will eventually stop saving and chances are youll be too into the game to notice, oh and i got this game to play online with my brother and no matter what i try i cnt join friends but i can join random people, ive been playing games since i was 2 yrz old and i have never seen such a messed up buggy game, oh well serves me right for buying a game by the creators of the Call of Juares series, fix the game or i get my money back!!!!

again, i tried whiping out all data on my ps3 for dead island, i made it to lvl 18 in a bashful 18 hour playthrough of scavaging and all and back at lvl TWELVE, the patch won't redownload, n my bad i am so mad i can't think straight, so 60 hours plus 18 hours make 78 hours LOST now because obviously my save game is corrupted being it's pulling this CRAP, the only luck i truely had was finishing each chapter, turn teh game off then do it one at a time, if i play more than 1 chapter it don't save

I went to chapter 8 today, got some badass guns, 31k money, and then I returned back to chapter 5 and lost the guns, redo missions, and also back to 9k money >:C They better fix this problem soon.
-If it doesn't say "game saved" in the bottom left and the bio-hazard symbol doesn't appear, it's not saving, that is, they must appear at the same time.
-After failed attempts at joining a co-op game, it stops saving properly.
-After a while of normal play w/o trying to join anyone, the "Game Lobbys" option becomes greyed out and the game stops saving.
*This has all happened with network settings set to co-op. The one time I switched to single player it still
I play the game for 5 hours straight, saw the checkpoint icon and the biohazard symbol flashing and thought everything was ok, then quit the game, checked the save files on the XMB and it didn't save, 5 hours of gameplay, gone. Hurry the hell up techland/deep silver!
You can save online in ps3, just have someone join you and it will always auto-save correctly. To me the problem happened as soon as I got to the city and when i'm playing online, the hdd icon stayed at the correct times.

well, considering the fact that me nd my friends beat it online together, then, i went to go play my game in singleplayer, it didnt save. i was lvl 16 when i started MY story in singleplayer, and got to level 19. quit, came back later, and i was right at chapter 1 again with all of my level 16 stuff. AND my friend had his game set to Cooperative, and we played with him, and his game saved everyday we played. Plus, he played by himself sometimes, WITHOUT swtiching it back to singleplayer. so...
The best way to make sure the auto save works is to make sure 1: you play in single player but also 2: turn off the playstation network as the game still tries to join other players who are nearby when playing. had this problem when I played last night and a trophy didn't go through. So checked the save this morning to find the games autosave hasn't been working. Turned PSN off and the Auto Save and Trophies worked fine.

I honestly don't think it matters because I played it both ways just out of random it stops saving. Went from lvl 25 back to 6 and 53% of the story complete to 8%. The things I have figured to look for is if the game first starts lagging, second you will hear high pitched popping noises from your sound and the save ico. Last if you quit the game and back at the main menu all the text and blood will be green and not animate. It will show all your progress and trophies but they won't record on psn
If I have it on coop it does in fact save when I am not playing with other people but it at some point stops randomly, I know when it happens too because that bio-hazard signal quits coming up....... I think I have tried the single player thing as well.... still stops at random places... Luckily I was able to observe when it happened early on and promptly quit game and restarted when I noticed it happening.... Still annoying as hell and it is in fact a problem...

i am lvl 11 now. i have turned my playstation off to take a break multible times today.. i still have my save and all my weapons, same location, same quest as i left off.
@badboykoji dude.. there is nothing wrong with the game.. co-op and single player are 2 different gamemodes.. thats why you cant change from co-op to singleplayer in game.. co-op is to just play with friends and stuff.. singleplayer is to play the actual game... it even says that the co-op game wont save when you switch... the game works fine..
@hazardousgamer the game says (are you sure you want to join so and so's game...your progress will be carried over). so your wrong. im lvl 44 and this glitch keeps happening to me. its because of the new patch. and they said a new patch is coming out to fix it. and yes co-op does save and it does carry over. cause i started off playing co-op and then went to single player and i still had everything until today.
@hazardousgamer Why would they even make that an intentional act? You don't see that in Demon's Souls. To me there's no difference between them as far as the multiplayer/autosave goes except for the fact that the Dead Island autosave is flawed. I originally got up to chapter four in the idle co-op mode before it stopped autosaving altogether and I mean completely stopped saving.
This to me is not something that would be intentional nor should it be intentional. This is game breaking.
@hazardousgamer if that's the case why haven't deep silver told anyone yet? they're still claiming that the patch couldn't affect the save game file and it's most likely not with a wide audience, and all i've seen is ALOT of ppl having the same problem. They don't know how to make a patch right, if they did they wouldn't had made it to reset everything, they also would know what their patch would do IF they tested it ON the PS3 which i think they did VERY little, aka SLOPPY port, over 40 hours

The way to fix this is delete Dead Island Game Utility (NO SAVE DATA) and disabled internet connection and it should save it.
And everytime you turn off your ps3, make sure you quit single player and go back to single player and you can turn it off.

And what I meant by quitting single player, is before you turn off your console, make sure you quit the game to main menu and go back to campaign.
This is just for, at least PS3, I'm not sure about 360.

since watching this vid saving has worked fine 4 me. My first 2 days of playing i lost everything but i switched it from co op to single player and from playstation network to LAN and its saving fine now. If this doesnt work for every1 i dont no what will. im now on chapter 9 n i got some mean weapons.

Okay, I figured out how to get the game to autosave again. This works, believe me. Before this, I was playing day after day and nothing would save and I would start back at my last game save each time, pissing me off to no end. There is a simple solution. Go into your game data folder and find the game data for Dead Island and delete it. Yes, delete the game data but NOT the game saves! The stupid update is what caused this to happen, so the update wont have affect anymore. You're welcome

@fireball544 it works well enough to get your game saving again, but there are still some things that need ironed out. Some days, my game saves with no trouble. Other times, I am playing (and even after its autosaved) the game will stop saving and even stop communicating with the network. It wont send my trophies to facebook and I can't find anyone in the lobbies to play with. Even when this happens, I can't even select the lobby as an option. I hope this gets fixed soon.

@fireball544 yeah thats exactly what I did. Deleted the game data (not the saves, of course) and set it to single player. Now I can set it to playstation network instead of local and it saves....not all the time but pretty often...often enough, anyways. I always just do a challenge or trophy here and there to make sure its saving. If they don't show up on facebook or register on your PS3's trophies, its not saving, so restart your game as soon as possible.

Hazardousgamer you say that as if were all lying, its an awesome game, got it on day 1, played to lvl 29 and it went back to lvl 10 even my brothers did it, well done for urs not buggin out like the rest of the world but it does concern u wen ur lvl 27 or whatever and all ur online friends are still lvl 11, u lose out on full high lvl gaming experience online aswell

Yea you can set it to single player but if you keep playing it will eventually stop saving and chances are youll be too into the game to notice, oh and i got this game to play online with my brother and no matter what i try i cnt join friends but i can join random people, ive been playing games since i was 2 yrz old and i have never seen such a messed up buggy game, oh well serves me right for buying a game by the creators of the Call of Juares series, fix the game or i get my money back!!!!

@Meansnare well im like level 20-24 now and very far in the game. i played maybe 5-6 hours straight last night. (took breaks but just pressed start and kept the game running) and i have had no problems.

again, i tried whiping out all data on my ps3 for dead island, i made it to lvl 18 in a bashful 18 hour playthrough of scavaging and all and back at lvl TWELVE, the patch won't redownload, n my bad i am so mad i can't think straight, so 60 hours plus 18 hours make 78 hours LOST now because obviously my save game is corrupted being it's pulling this CRAP, the only luck i truely had was finishing each chapter, turn teh game off then do it one at a time, if i play more than 1 chapter it don't save

I went to chapter 8 today, got some badass guns, 31k money, and then I returned back to chapter 5 and lost the guns, redo missions, and also back to 9k money >:C They better fix this problem soon.

So far this has happened to me:
-If it doesn't say "game saved" in the bottom left and the bio-hazard symbol doesn't appear, it's not saving, that is, they must appear at the same time.
-After failed attempts at joining a co-op game, it stops saving properly.
-After a while of normal play w/o trying to join anyone, the "Game Lobbys" option becomes greyed out and the game stops saving.
*This has all happened with network settings set to co-op. The one time I switched to single player it still

I play the game for 5 hours straight, saw the checkpoint icon and the biohazard symbol flashing and thought everything was ok, then quit the game, checked the save files on the XMB and it didn't save, 5 hours of gameplay, gone. Hurry the hell up techland/deep silver!

You can save online in ps3, just have someone join you and it will always auto-save correctly. To me the problem happened as soon as I got to the city and when i'm playing online, the hdd icon stayed at the correct times.

well, considering the fact that me nd my friends beat it online together, then, i went to go play my game in singleplayer, it didnt save. i was lvl 16 when i started MY story in singleplayer, and got to level 19. quit, came back later, and i was right at chapter 1 again with all of my level 16 stuff. AND my friend had his game set to Cooperative, and we played with him, and his game saved everyday we played. Plus, he played by himself sometimes, WITHOUT swtiching it back to singleplayer. so...

The best way to make sure the auto save works is to make sure 1: you play in single player but also 2: turn off the playstation network as the game still tries to join other players who are nearby when playing. had this problem when I played last night and a trophy didn't go through. So checked the save this morning to find the games autosave hasn't been working. Turned PSN off and the Auto Save and Trophies worked fine.

I honestly don't think it matters because I played it both ways just out of random it stops saving. Went from lvl 25 back to 6 and 53% of the story complete to 8%. The things I have figured to look for is if the game first starts lagging, second you will hear high pitched popping noises from your sound and the save ico. Last if you quit the game and back at the main menu all the text and blood will be green and not animate. It will show all your progress and trophies but they won't record on psn

If I have it on coop it does in fact save when I am not playing with other people but it at some point stops randomly, I know when it happens too because that bio-hazard signal quits coming up....... I think I have tried the single player thing as well.... still stops at random places... Luckily I was able to observe when it happened early on and promptly quit game and restarted when I noticed it happening.... Still annoying as hell and it is in fact a problem...

Played on LAN on my first play through and it saved just fine, then i got the patch/update 2 nights ago and it deleted all my trophy and challenge progress except for the ones i had completed. Wanted to try co-op the 2nd time around and couldn't connect to anyone one and played the game for about 3-4 hours solo, when i turned on my ps3 later that night it didn't even save the game so wasted that time for nothing. I love the game but shit like that ruins it for alot of people...

@badboykoji dude.. there is nothing wrong with the game.. co-op and single player are 2 different gamemodes.. thats why you cant change from co-op to singleplayer in game.. co-op is to just play with friends and stuff.. singleplayer is to play the actual game... it even says that the co-op game wont save when you switch... the game works fine..

@hazardousgamer the game says (are you sure you want to join so and so's game...your progress will be carried over). so your wrong. im lvl 44 and this glitch keeps happening to me. its because of the new patch. and they said a new patch is coming out to fix it. and yes co-op does save and it does carry over. cause i started off playing co-op and then went to single player and i still had everything until today.

@hazardousgamer Why would they even make that an intentional act? You don't see that in Demon's Souls. To me there's no difference between them as far as the multiplayer/autosave goes except for the fact that the Dead Island autosave is flawed. I originally got up to chapter four in the idle co-op mode before it stopped autosaving altogether and I mean completely stopped saving.
This to me is not something that would be intentional nor should it be intentional. This is game breaking.

@hazardousgamer if that's the case why haven't deep silver told anyone yet? they're still claiming that the patch couldn't affect the save game file and it's most likely not with a wide audience, and all i've seen is ALOT of ppl having the same problem. They don't know how to make a patch right, if they did they wouldn't had made it to reset everything, they also would know what their patch would do IF they tested it ON the PS3 which i think they did VERY little, aka SLOPPY port, over 40 hours

Changing it to just single player will not work. You have to log off psn with single player on, or just switch it to LAN.
