recently a lot of games of mine have that disc unreadable error,but some of my games work perfectly well.i want to know this situation is my xbox laser eye dirty or the disc scratched,but like i said,i recently just got this problem,couple month before is all fine(but sometimes,not like now)
@jaydoubleuem Tough one there, if its a relatively new slim, the likelihood of the laser being dirty is not likely. I would clean the disk with a window cleaner, really rub it well with a microfiber towel, there may be something on a section of the disk, it could be very small and interfering with the laser being able to read it. it may even be a fingerprint...let me know...but I would guess its more likely the disk than the console.
my game isnt even scratched really it just has a few barely visible scratches and ive gotten it cleaned at the store twice and within two hrs it says it cant read it so idk what to do
@Scienceoverreligion I would say to open the disk drive and clean the dvd lens with rubbing alcohol. if that doesn't clear things up i would remove the magnet from the disk drive lid, try the game without the lid, placing the game, then magnet on and starting the machine. one of those two suggestions should get you playing. let me know how it goes, good luck!
@vendetta5792 Two things, one, never move the 360 with a game in the drive. two, check the strength of the magnet, that is know to cause cutting on the disk, if thats the case there are videos on here that can help...

@peekaboo2u maybe but my tray fell out of my box so it wont open if i use the button i just take the magnet off from holding the disk and thats how i switched games but you no when you start a xbox up it makes the sound from the disc drive? its the laser moving in to place then the game start spinning so it will read my doesn't make that sound at all and it doesn't spin all it does lights up.
@SuperFasia you need to update the firmware in your 360 if its modded...go to whoever did the mod and have them update the firmware and everything will work
This video made me subscribe to Youtube for the first time so I could leave a positive comment! Fix worked perfectly though the drive in our 360 is a little different to that shown. In my case I found a small black rectangular piece of rubber within the drive case. Putting 2 and 2 together, making 4 it fitted perfectly on the metal plate as a buffer, bit of superglue and job's done. Also cleaned lens. Fantastic advice - many thanks. PS - presume this works for all DVD / CD players ?
@katsunkids Awesome! Glad it worked for you. Not hard at all right? Basically its like a record player when it gets to the end of the record, the needle just sits there, no music left. Well in this case, the laser is going so far in, it can't read the data it needs to start the disk with...it may work the same way with dvd/cd players, but cleaning the lens is always a good idea first.

@TEHSACREDGS look at my video at :47 that's why I don't recommend messing with the laser. Best of luck, I'd help if I could, but I can't...you probably need to replace your laser now. Next time use my fix and you'd probably be in a better predicament.

@33Flamengo it could be a couple of different things. if your system is old, it could be the laser on the drive need to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't get it going, it could be that the magnet is too strong and causing the problem...
Let me know if cleaning the laser on the dvd drive got things going and we'll go from there...

my xbox is a little different, has a different disc drive. so the rectengular piece in your xbox is more flat and oddly shaped in mine. so idk how to glue the foam to it..

@MrProtuber is your 360 modded? that's an important part...if it is, you may need to update your firmware. not only that, but they (microsoft) are putting in new security tiers and forcing everyone to update their dashboards. Some games won't play without their updates. Now if your modded, you don't want their update, you want the underground dash...
2k10 wouldn't apply to any of that though...so share with me your system info and tell me what your working with...

@morg9900 ok, now you can't just pop in any drive to your 360. The drives are assigned to each system. They are recognized by a specific "key". To put another drive into your system, you have to "flash" the drives...
That would have to be done by someone that is familiar with how to do it and usually they are guys from craigslist that mod systems...
@peekaboo2u u dont rlly have to flash them..u can just make sure theyre the same firmware and brand... if so u can take the motherboard from ur old drive and put it in the new one
@morg9900 try to poke a breadknife in with a dry cloth ... not an ordinary knife with a pointed end, because the knife will go through the fabric of course =) and xbox must be turned on without CD! otherwise you can not bury your any bread knife in, Imagine that, to clean the laser disc!. It helped my xbox to register the games the first time when the Xbox is turned on ..... hope this vil help all of us microsoft xbox disappointing people =)
@morg9900 hey you can get the drives your friend gave you to work in your xbox as long as they are the same make like ben q, it is very simple take your drive and take the two boards out (mark them so you don't get them mixed up) take one of the good drives and take the two boards out. set them aside put your boards in. put drive back together and your done no flash needed

This just happened to me after upgrading to the new dashboard. With EVERY game. Its so annoying. It won't read any discs. Just as well i have MW2 installed on the hard drive.
@Mik3andCr3am start simple first: clean disk, check for scratches. if all clear, open 360, open dvd drive, clean dvd lens with rubbing alcohol, test a game...
if none of that clears the problem, do this fix...
@Mik3andCr3am I know its been 6 months after you posted your comment, but if what he said and this fix doesnt work, your disk drive may be busted and might need a new one designed for your xbox
@Steven831BayArea the top of the disk tray casing has a metal piece u have to pop out of it and put over the disk while its in the diskdrive rub your finger over the top metal casing of your dvd drive and you will feel a piece of metal cut from it..in a circular possition..remove that take out the plastic top thats in there and put that peice over the disk before it spins
i have this problem..but not always...sometimes the game works, sometimes it doesn't. should i try this? for example...my gta4 backup always works..but forza motorsport 3 is very moody...it runs when it wants...also, if i do this fix will i be able to play originals?

@az9076 you lens is not reading the security sector on the disk. use this fix, as you adjust the bumper mentioned in the video, you will align the lens to read the needed sectors on the dvd and you'll be playing...

The best way to fix it is by installing the game on your xbox. This happned to my fifa 10. Basically since your disk is scratched or smudged etc it wont let you play the game, but all you need to do is borrow another disk of that game fore the xbox off a friend or a relative that has that type of disk. Put the disk in while one your xbox dashboard, go to games library, select the game, it will come up 'olay game' and 'install', click install and then u cn play with ur scratched disk, no problems

i have my xbox since christmas and i modded the drive from the first day...last week while i was playing ace combat 5 when it started loading a video it froze...now when i try to play game(original or copy) it either says the disc is unreadable after a few seconds or after many tries it starts the game, plays it for a little and then it freeze again...the console has no problem playing dvd's though...the drive is not changed...it's the factory one...do you have any idea?thx a lot!
K i got a fix, Easy and simple put ur 4 fingers on the top of you xbox and push on the engraved "xbox -360" thing. push off and on when ur xbox is loading and bing it works...Didn't get it? don't worry i will make a video soon promises :)

I USED A CAR WAX ON THE DISC. LIGHTLY RUB AND REMOVE THE PASTE LET IT DRY FIRST. IT WORKED FOR ME EVER SINCE BUT ALSO USE A LASER LENS CLEANING DISC.

You have to open the console and disk drive, clean the lens with q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

If you are watching this video you probably have the unreadable disk problem. I too had it a few hours ago while my mom, dad 4 sisters and 2 brothers were at a baby shower. I decided not to go and stayed back to play my xbox360. My xbox360 had the unreadable disk problem no matter what disk. Here is how to fix it. Wait 2 hours till your sister comes home. She will play it without knowing there is even a "problem". Bam! it works, this happened to me today. she was playing indiana jones...

FOR ALL PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE UNREADABLE DISK PROBLEM *AFTER UPDATE 2011* i contacted the xbox support and they told that the mw2 and black ops would not work any more for COPYED cd... so the only solution for this problem is to buy original mw2/black ops cd.... HOPE THIS HELPED <3

my xbox is a little different, has a different disc drive. so the rectengular piece in your xbox is more flat and oddly shaped in mine. so idk how to glue the foam to it..

@MrProtuber is your 360 modded? that's an important part...if it is, you may need to update your firmware. not only that, but they (microsoft) are putting in new security tiers and forcing everyone to update their dashboards. Some games won't play without their updates. Now if your modded, you don't want their update, you want the underground dash...
2k10 wouldn't apply to any of that though...so share with me your system info and tell me what your working with...

please help me i ve been trying to get mine working for sbout a year now and my friend gave me 2 perfectly working disc drives but of course they dont work on my xbox ive tryed the rubberband trick ive tryed lubeing the rails ive tryed the tapping trick ive tryed giving it a headstart and spinning it ive tryed putting the eye back in to place NOTHING WORKS and i cant use this trick because i have a newer xbox (not the black kinect ones) ur xbox is totally outdated PLEASE HELP ME! ! ! ! ! ! !

@morg9900 ok, now you can't just pop in any drive to your 360. The drives are assigned to each system. They are recognized by a specific "key". To put another drive into your system, you have to "flash" the drives...
That would have to be done by someone that is familiar with how to do it and usually they are guys from craigslist that mod systems...

@morg9900 try to poke a breadknife in with a dry cloth ... not an ordinary knife with a pointed end, because the knife will go through the fabric of course =) and xbox must be turned on without CD! otherwise you can not bury your any bread knife in, Imagine that, to clean the laser disc!. It helped my xbox to register the games the first time when the Xbox is turned on ..... hope this vil help all of us microsoft xbox disappointing people =)

This just happened to me after upgrading to the new dashboard. With EVERY game. Its so annoying. It won't read any discs. Just as well i have MW2 installed on the hard drive.
Pity I never installed all my games collection.

@Mik3andCr3am start simple first: clean disk, check for scratches. if all clear, open 360, open dvd drive, clean dvd lens with rubbing alcohol, test a game...
if none of that clears the problem, do this fix...

All you have to do is tilt your xbox to the left, then open the tray and close it. You don't have to tear the shit out of your Xbox... Dumbass.

2) shut power off
3) hit xbox with disc tray facing ground into (soft) floor
*It will move the laser along its tracks far enough that it will read the disc*
4) Turn power on and insert disc
5) enjoy ur game

@Steven831BayArea the top of the disk tray casing has a metal piece u have to pop out of it and put over the disk while its in the diskdrive rub your finger over the top metal casing of your dvd drive and you will feel a piece of metal cut from it..in a circular possition..remove that take out the plastic top thats in there and put that peice over the disk before it spins

i have this problem..but not always...sometimes the game works, sometimes it doesn't. should i try this? for example...my gta4 backup always works..but forza motorsport 3 is very moody...it runs when it wants...also, if i do this fix will i be able to play originals?

my disc trays not opening, getting stuck etc so I cleaned the rubber band(drive belt) & that seems to have helped BUT when I try to play disc it says open tray or insert disc even though there is a disc in there , I know I shouldnt but if I give the xbox a quick sharp bang on the top over the tray the game will sometimes load & I can play, obviously I dont want to keep doing that! so there are my symptoms, any help please?ps I have allready bought a new 360s but still want to fix my elite to mod

I have a Halo Reach Disc and my xbox maded a Little schratsh on it ;O And that wasn¨t my game :( When i put the game in my xbox, it says Reading, and then is says, Open tray!!! And somtetimes it says Mixed media disc????? And somtetimes the game starts, but 10 seconds after, it says: Can¨t read yout¨e disc ::O:O:O:O

@az9076 you lens is not reading the security sector on the disk. use this fix, as you adjust the bumper mentioned in the video, you will align the lens to read the needed sectors on the dvd and you'll be playing...

The best way to fix it is by installing the game on your xbox. This happned to my fifa 10. Basically since your disk is scratched or smudged etc it wont let you play the game, but all you need to do is borrow another disk of that game fore the xbox off a friend or a relative that has that type of disk. Put the disk in while one your xbox dashboard, go to games library, select the game, it will come up 'olay game' and 'install', click install and then u cn play with ur scratched disk, no problems

Or you just head over to closest game stop and ask for a CD scratch removal repair.
It only coasts about 5$.

u can also take the game out n close the tray then let it read it should make a weird noise if ur close enough u can hear it and then re open it n put the game in it worked for me so try it n see...

i have my xbox since christmas and i modded the drive from the first day...last week while i was playing ace combat 5 when it started loading a video it froze...now when i try to play game(original or copy) it either says the disc is unreadable after a few seconds or after many tries it starts the game, plays it for a little and then it freeze again...the console has no problem playing dvd's though...the drive is not changed...it's the factory one...do you have any idea?thx a lot!

K i got a fix, Easy and simple put ur 4 fingers on the top of you xbox and push on the engraved "xbox -360" thing. push off and on when ur xbox is loading and bing it works...Didn't get it? don't worry i will make a video soon promises :)

i had my xbox with hitachi disk drive for 3years and its just going it keeps saying open trey or play dvd and the trey jams i fixed it now i get a white screen it signs me out of xbox live and when i works it take long loading any adeas to sort that out :(

@vidimad360 try playing it without the faceplate, that may help with the tray getting stuck...
opening the system and cleaning the lens might be a solution to it having read issues....

Ok does anyone know why my Xbox says "can't read disk" while I play games that are fully downloaded off the marketplace. It also occurs randomly throughout C.D. games. I have tried many different C.D.s and many different downloaded games and the same thing happens. It randomly says "cant read disk". This really confuses me due to the fact that a lot of my games do not have a disk.
