Anyone else notice the fact that in the opening, Gundam RX-78 GP-01 Zephranthes is in ground type mode, and not in Full Vernian? I thought we all saw firsthand what happens when a mobile suit optimized for ground combat, tries to fight in space...O__O
now that i think about it, the extending shield on the vernian is completely useless. i mean, yea, if something shot at it and the vernian's shield was like, 12 inches short, the extension would have been great. the chances though, are pretty low. to be honest, i think it was just to make the shield look useful.
Gundam simply isn't this way or this style anymore. 0080,0083, And 08th MS Team are the best, and the 80's/90's Japanese pop intros is what we remember. This style and atmosphere, just so realistic, and that makes these U.C side stories the best. Guess I have to fly to Japan myself and write more productions like this, if you want something done right, do it yourself, correct?

I find it hilarious people spend so much time arguing over what Gundam series is the best, because it boils down to a matter of personal taste. I like GWing and G Gundam best, but I really like this opening and 08th MS Team for the few times I saw it. UC is great and so are non-UC Centuries.

Personally I preferred wing, UC and 8th MS team to everything else, but thats just me. G gundam is almost universally disliked/hated (Im not a fan of it myself) but I got a laugh out of the absurdity anyways.

Most non-UC Gundam series just aren't very good. Wing was ok although definitely more of a Super series than the normal Real style of Gundam. Seed and Destiny were trash, 00 was decent but not much else. G is the best non-UC all around and that's because it went full Super.
Unicorn is looking nice though, just hope it doesn't go into bullshit plot hax. Then again the main character appears to be a newtype so it probably will.

It went something like this: MSG pulled in terrible ratings. Got canned early. However, the merchandise sold well, so it managed to go to syndication. That's where it found its audience. Through its newfound popularity, the idea for the compilation movies was struck upon, and that's where it really took off.

Kid pilots built the series. And no there arn't any 10 year olds piloting MS. Uso Ebbing the youngest pilot of the series was 13.
I'd rather see bunch of little kids in the fight than a the generic superhero solders.

I see why you would want to see a bunch of kids fighting in Gundams now, because a bunch of teenagers around 10-14 would be the only people to accept you or think you're "cool" or something. Most non-UC Gundam series just aren't very good. Wing was ok although definitely more of a Super series than the normal Real style of Gundam. Seed and Destiny were trash, 00 was decent but not much else. G is the best non-UC all around and that's because it went full Super.
Unicorn is looking nice though, just hope it doesn't go into bullshit plot hax. Then again the main character appears to be a newtype so it probably will.

I think you're needlessly biased, and you havent yet provided me with any reason to think otherwise. I believe SEED has a compelling storyline, memorable characters, and a charming universe. True, the older ones might have a certain allure that you don't find much anymore, but that doesn't leave the current generation without merit.

Let's not kid ourselves, not all Gundams are awesome. ZZ was garbage. I'm sorry, I love UC Gundam with MSG, Zeta and 08th being my favorite Gundams but ZZ was horrible. Those first 10 episodes put that show in a hole it will never come out of
00 was garbage as well. All this psychological effects on pilots someone brought up was done in the original, Zeta and every UC Gundam except much better, drawn out and thought provoking.

the only one i do not like is seed actually, i like the seed suits and music but i dont like gundam seeds story, charictors and the setting. The original Gundam, directed by Tomino, released in 1979 was designed for teenagers, and the majority of its audience during its initial run was teenage girls.

Something to note:
The original Mobile Suit Gundam series wasn't actually very popular to begin with. That's why the 50 eps were converted into 3 (very long) movies.
The most popular gundam (at least for UC) is the original 80's Zeta by far.

It went something like this: MSG pulled in terrible ratings. Got canned early. However, the merchandise sold well, so it managed to go to syndication. That's where it found its audience. Through its newfound popularity, the idea for the compilation movies was struck upon, and that's where it really took off.
Also, it should be noted that the popularity of Zeta is...not more than the original series. The original series has sold the second-highest number of units of any TV anime ever.
