  • A fantastic song of the 80's. Better than their much praised China In Your Hand, well, in my ears at least ;)

  • I always loved this song, thanks for sharing it!!

  • Carol would still get my stiff meat.

  • The new T'pau 'Story Behind The tracks' DVD / CD is now available from the Gnatfish Records website.

  • Can't knock Carol Deckers voice though.

  • Great tune but a shite edit. Full version better.

  • carol was in love with me... but i rejected her because of her hair style.

    instead i fucked with blondie.

  • I fucked her in her asshole.

  • One hit wonder in the US...their songs did well in Canada and EXTREMELY well in the UK. The Americans missed out on some good music in the 80s...

  • Is she Polish

  • @zaweik Yes,Polandland, from a little village called Le-var-poll,my great geographical knowledge tells me its close to the famous town of Min-chis-ter on the border of Check-o-slow-vak-ia.Hope this helps, thumbs up smilie, thumbs up smilie! :)

  • Details of the forthcoming T'pau album ' The Story behind The tracks' are now online on the Gnatfish Records website.

  • yea one hit wonder in U.S....just listened to..china in your hand and i have never heard it!!!

  • Apparently the guitarist in this band is on tour with Ian Gillian of Deep Purple.

  • this is my fav song

  • one of the greatest songs of all time

  • T'Pau means "This sucks" in French. Welcome back Beavis and Butthead!!!!!

  • Lip sync!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this imo came on totp just before pop music began to plummet. This was late august 87 that it was a new entry over in the uk. The week b4 that risible pump up the volume hit the charts (which was sunday 30th august) this was the thursday before. Infact september 87 was infested by 3 of those dodgy house songs! :(

  • @UnionMetalhead spot on ,couldnt pin point the date but I share the sentiments 100%.The 80s ended there and then for me.

  • Loved it and bought a stack of 45 rpm records and this was one of them around late winter/early spring of 1987. charted in the top 10 by May or June at Billboard's

  • She's lip syncing!!!! thats cheating

  • it was the 80's. TV shows did not give them a choice. It was the standard to lip sync.

  • Man I love her!!

Ok maybe not now but then for sure ;)

  • Lovely - beautiful voice and she was so slim!

  • IIRC August 27th 1987?.

  • Carol was a crush of mine when younger - and se was ginger when it wasnt a crime. she even said she had a matching set once on a programme - and that is why they were never heard of again.

  • wow - i love the song but she just might be the worlds worst lip-syncher..

    djrj

  • I agree with you.....

  • The "high quality" clip looks no different....

  • Lol about the eye remark!!! I do like this song, but your remark was funny as hell!!

  • Jesus...this song takes me back to my youth...

Carol Decker I still love you 20 yrs later...she had one of the best and most underated voices in the 80s - right up there with Cindy Lauper

  • All these years later and I thought 'China in Your Hand' was their first single. I could've sworn this came after. Obviously not.

  • LOL I'm with you on that one... maybe I was and still am under the influence of the 80s!

  • I'd forgot about this song until just now lol. Funny how a song starts to play after all these years & you know the words.

  • the only ginger woman i ever lusted after!! great voice! as well!

  • I remember watching this when I was 9. It really takes me back to a more magical time listening to it again. Rhianna doesn't quite cut it.

  • carol decker is so beautiful

  • I remember watching this. Jeez, I feel old.

  • This song has a kind of A-Ha feel to it!

  • I have a massive range of music taste, gangsta hip hop,Tiesto,Lisa lashes,House, garage,Trance,Metal, some Death Metal.......and yet I still have her albums from the 80s when I purchased them-and they are ALL on my ipod, now that says something.I think her voice is unmatched to this day. Thanks for posting as I have no videos of her songs.

  • amazing voice huh? shes lip synchin here lame

  • actually I like lip synching at least you get the song

  • hey goonies 31, it's still her voice singing on the recording ya fuckin dipshit! why don't you do everyone a favor and go kill yourself now.

  • Absolutely Great from Carol Decker. Does anyone know what she is doing now ? I know she has got at least one child and I think I heard she is back on the circuit ( just clubs ) It would be sad to lose such a wonderful female voice from the past. Also I think they were all from Shrewsbury, am I correct or not. From Krutchwarmer.

  • Carol Decker is still making music and is currently touring the UK playing open air venues on the here and now "best of the 80s" summer tour.

  • wellington telford mate.

  • I remember that summer so vividly. :)

  • This was -- is -- my favorite song from the '80s. Still love it.

  • I think that maybe you are thinking of TUPAC..and he is dead now.

  • AN amazing voice wot more can i say?

  • This song reminds me of the best time in my life!

  • Just great.

  • what a hot babe and the moves she got

  • I thought carol decker was fit as hell back then and shes still got a great voice.

  • Dude YOU SUCK

  • Dude YOU SUCK

  • fuck off you tit

     you have no brain

  • You dont know what your talking about. Carol Decker wrote and sung some magic stuff. But your a Yank so what do you know about quality?

  • Awesome

  • She was well fit!

  • i love this song...i always wondered how she would do it live....both the rap and singing LOL

  • i think everyone on top lipsynched, didn't they? and it 's a shame because some really great singers were on there.

  • Has she got a double?I can hear someone else singing here.

  • I do like this song, but your lazy eye remark was funny as hell.......and true!!

  • you were never sure which eye was looking at you and which one was looking for you.

  • You guys ought to be ashamed of yourselves - people can't help what they're born with - did you ever stop to think what it must be like for her to deal with?

  • I am not ashamed of myself due to things could be alot worse and way more serious for her than that. It was a harmless remark that I found humor in. I am sure she still made good money from her short lived sucess. You need a sense a humor. With the eye thing or not, she still has a great voice.

  • rjs2084 you idiot

  • It's not that they didn't notice. It's just that it's the nature of the beast. Everyone there just accepted the reality of it. I wish I could hear a real live version, but I understand the TOTP management wanting their acts to sound (exactly) like the hit singles.

  • I dont remember the 80's

  • No, it's a old British show that used to be on BBC. It's no longer on air from what I heard on VH1 Classic though.

  • sadly, you're right. BBC cancelled it last year, it hadn't been doing all that well for a long time thanks to MTV, but I think the whole Ashlee Simpson lip-synching really sealed the coffin.

  • No, it was and still is a show across the pond where they take the bands of the minute and show them 'performing' their current hit. Unfortunately, as I stated before, it is only about 30 percent live - rest is all backing tracks and prerecorded stuff :(

  • HATE top of the pops - every single band I've ever seen on it use either/both backing tracks or lipsynch the whole thing - so sad. Wish they would have actually let the artists perform.

  • Thanks for this - forgot what a superb singer Carol Decker was... and about the fact that she totally changed my formerly biased opinions regarding redheads ;)

  • In Canada, they were NOT 1-hit-wonders, we knew "China In Your Hand". Had the album. ;)

Reminds me of the summer of 1987, as that was huge (Heart & Soul) here in North America overall. But once the Americans got hold of it; T'pau made loads of $ in the USA.

Great stuff. Wish they could have done better over this way; we dug them here in Canada.

  • This is my fave from them. Whatever happened to them?

  • what a crap t.v show top of the pops was for bands togo on..sit around all day.. then play to a backing track to about 30 people in the afternoon B.B.C. wankers!

  • The one's they have to thank were Severn Sound radio in Gloucester - who helped pulled out all the stops to promote them! (In the days when commercial radio was run locally and not all from London (spit spit)) I was there - Gloucester Leisure centre! 1987 for their first concert! Yay! lol

  • wow, going right back...................

  • ONE HIT WONDER!!

  • Yes, they were a one hit wonder in the USA but in Britain they had eight Top 40 chart singles - including three Top 10 hits, one of which ('China in your Hand') hit the Number 1 spot.

  • How are they are one hit wonder ? "China in your hands" was #1 for about 100 weeks back in 1987. There were three proper albums all producing singles that charted well in the top40.

  • In America they were a one hit wonder - with Heart & Soul. Most Americans don't know anything about the other stuff, not even China in your Hand! As far as America is concerned T'Pau are one hit wonders......shame really.

  • @80smusicdude America lost out then, they were fab! :)

  • @80smusicdude the country that gave us vanilla ice

  • @DJohRicky Agree. They are not a One Hit Wonder. They had another Hit Called "Valentine."

  • @americanistaplus - Because some people seem to think America is the only place that matters for bands. There are thousands of multi platinum artists around the world who's songs you may never here on the radio here or be able to buy or even download (legally) in the US.

  • great 80s song! thanks for posting
