  • where did you get the John Bonham symbol (3 rings) for the bass drum?

  • @thatonedrummer226 I had to make the symbol. I got a 10" REMO Muffle Ring and some black shiny poster board, I traced the Muffle Ring on the poster board and cut out each one. I then got some two way tape, and went around the back of the circles with the tape. Then strategically placed them on the drum head. That's it. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @thatonedrummer226 you can get any kind of decals like that from your local sign shop.

  • they do sound big, but damn they sound REALLY good. I'd say your tune job is spot on, and i've been listening to zeppelin w/perfect pitch for 30 years or so

  • @sonick808 Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Joe, how much does a drum head affect the sound of a drum? I purchased a bottom to mid range Sonor kit a while ago. After watching numerous vids and reading up on how to tune drums, I still can't get a sound I'm happy with. I have played guitar for 30 years and have a good ear. The heads on the kit are probably pretty cheap and nasty - would buying expensive heads make a big difference? What would you recommend? I too am a big fan of John Bonham, his drumming inspired me to buy a kit.

  • @jadaras Yea heads make all the difference. I would get EVANS heads. You can go with white coated heads or clear. Just get G2's for the tops of the toms, and G1's for the bottoms. The snare head to get is a Power Center Reverse Dot. The bottom of the snare should be the Hazy 300 & The bass needs the EMAD. Check my videos on tuning to help you out. Hope that helps. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Remo's, definitely! I recently switched from stock heads to remo coated emperors and they sound GREAT! I still haven't tuned them properly but they still sound great

  • can I have that drumset? haha

  • k... i'm ready to hear the drums.

*just a bit of constructive criticism

  • @mortemdrummer notice the first thing he says "we are talking about..."

  • wow mate, they sound like Bonzo's drums to me brother, and you sure make em sound like Bonzo's! haha fuckin epic!

  • fuckin awesome drums dude wtf...... just beautiful drums id fuckin die to have these i would sell my soul to the devil

  • Your a great player dude

  • joe ur great .I wish I was as good as you.

  • Man you are a remarkable drummer, loved the Dyer Makr vid, but to that end you talk too much and are boring, 2 minutes plus of Obama type speech and then to some awesome playing, like we told the Dixie Chicks, shut up and play. Think of how much money they lost trying to be politicians.

  • OMG dude... REALLY? You're THAT big of a racist that you'll evoke the old Dixie Chicks Walmart nonsense? Wow. Get a life. And FYI... they didn't actually LOSE money for expressing their viewpoints, their sales went up. They just stopped selling music to ignorant rednecks. That's an improvement.

  • PLZ TELL ME HOW YOU GOT THIS KIT I REALLY WANT ! SIMILAR!!!!

  • @sammykillsdudes15 I got this kit from a buddy of mine. I got it for $1700 with SKB Hard Shell Cases. The Cymbals were extra. If you were to get this kit brand new with cymbals, it would be about $5000. Ludwig stopped making them for awhile. I think they may be making them again. You can call Ludwig from their website. Hope that helps. Any other questions? Let me know. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • so is this the drums micked and edited or is this what they sound like? cause it sounds really epic

  • @NateageIV It's mic'd but no editing. Thanks for your opinion. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Nice drumming!

  • I love it that you do those Bonham-triplets with one foot!! Even Jason Bonham uses double pedals on those.

    Killer kit btw

  • this is nice ..i like spiral ludwig too..see it at my link

  • He makes it look easy! :(

  • nice

  • Hi Joe, I'm sure you've heard it before, but your channel is fantastic and your a great player. I'm 17 and you give me great ideas and help me out. This solo is awesome. It would be really great if your could give this video a little watch and comment what you think of it? Would really help me, thanks!

    /watch?v=8GoCt4tzY3M

  • 26" dude thats rack is a little high

  • What size kick is that?? I just bought a 3 piece 1970's this same color. Just looking to see what they sound like. Mine is a 22 inch i believe.

  • didnt john bonham used mounts on the kick for the ride on the tom?

  • @fubi7ch The original kit Bonham owned had the tom and ride mount. When Ludwig made the reissue they opted for the separate ride cymbal stand and the separate snare stand for the tom. It took a lot of the weight off the bass shell when both the cymbal and the tom were not attached. It made a lot more sense and made the kit last longer without cracking going on. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 A company that has a website; Precision Drum Company, would install the Ludwig L-1372 Shell Mount Cymbal Holder and the Ludwig LR2980MT tom mount on the bass drum of the reissue, which is what I'm aiming for when I order my own from Sam Ash Music. From what I have been told by Ludwig, Precision Drum Company know their stuff and know what they are doing.

  • @Aspergian Thanks for the info. Good Luck On Your Kit. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 By the way, when I've obtained all the recording equipment I need, I would position two Shure Beta 52As on the bass drum, one for the resonant side and the other for the batter head.

  • nice vid! plus I like the name..haha RUSH fan? awesome lol I wish I could just afford the floor tom's! have a gr8 1 ! -

    Greg

  • @gregoir Thanks for watching. Yes I love RUSH. I named my son after the professor NEIL. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Sound as good as John Bonham to me mate! :-)

Wish I could play like you!!

  • Isnt bonhams snare a little higher or Is it the room

  • It may have but the recording mics and the room may be the reason. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Hey man good job i have a question how do you tune your bass drum do you flip it.

  • @88drumfan I keep it tighter than a normal bass drum. I should be very ringy, if it doesn't, you need to crank it a little more. I have a video on how high I have it. Check it out. It will give you a better idea. Ok? Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • can you tell me where i can buy these remo cs black dots i can't find them ??

  • MIGHT I ASK WHAT A SET-UP LIKE YOURS COSTS? DRUMS, STANDS, CYMBALS, ETC JUST LIKE YOU SHOW IN THIS VIDEO. LOVE THE TONE OF YOUR DRUMS. LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU. THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • @ALBERTKING901 Yes you may. The kit with cymbals and stands go for $5000. I didn't pay that. I got the kit used from a buddy of mine for $1700. Most of the cymbals I had. They usually go for $1200. The stands are $900. They are the 900 series from Ludwig. I was really fortunate to get another kit with was the maple version from Ludwig as well. Those were about the same prices. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Hey Joe, awesome drum setup...If only had I had the money! Great playing too. One question: what did you use to put the "three rings" John Bonham logo on the front on the bass drum? Or did it come like that?

  • @SonofBrummieDarkness I did the three rings. I found a 10" REMO DRUM RING used for dampening and bought some shiny black poster board. I then traced three rings on the poster board and cut them out. I then got some two way tape and put the tape on the opposite sides of the rings. Then put the rings on the head. It's a temporary job, but that's the way I wanted it. If I ever want to take them off, I can still do it because the tape is not permanent. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. JOEDRUMS

  • It sounds like thunder! Awesome!

  • i thought you were cool until you said no one will ever be as good as john bonham, i see this as a challenge,so im going to dedicate my life to change that, and it hurts me to say that becase he inspired me the most, but then again not, wouldnt he want people to learn of him because he's such a great accomplishment and use him to be better, if that happened to me i would feel good about myself that people are jealouse enough of my skill

  • @rockstar59678 You got the wrong message from what I was trying to say, and that is: Bonham is Bonham nobody could have made Zeppelin sound the way they did without Bonham. Even Pro Drummers say Bonham had a certain touch on the kit that nobody else could duplicate. Even Pro's can't play the way he did. That's why he is & still will be one of the best rock drummers of all time. Just like, no one can play the way you or I play, it's the same thing. Hope that helps. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @rockstar59678 i got ya, and i got a question, i might have a chance to get a ludwig stainless steal set, didnt john at one time use a stainless steal set

  • great work man keep it up!!!

  • I must tell you, you were pretty hard on yourself during your monologue, because you did a GREAT job of tuning your drums! You should be very proud of getting those drums to sound so close to the way Bonham's drums sounded! The closest I've heard on Youtube! And you're a great drummer too! Good job! Kudos!

  • @brohoop Thanks Budd, I really appreciate the nice comments. I sometimes get flack for trying to do Bonham, and a few times I get some bad reviews. Oh Well. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • NEXT!......The Terry Bozzio kit. lol

  • Sure, you may not be Bonham, but you're better than me, and I've been playing 25 years. My first drumset was a blue Vistalite kit. Probably shouldn't have sold it.

  • @doghostage Wow!!! Thanks, I appreciate that compliment. That must have been a really nice blue visty kit. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • ahhh I see now haha they actually sound really nice micd lol thanks man =)

  • The base is weird. The rest was tuned well ;)

  • dammit 2:18 mins of talking :/

  • It seemed u were using a double pedal because of the shadow in the bass drum but anyways great video and great sound. That drum is just the most kick-ass drum of ass time. i think u should use coated skins like bonham did and u also putted two stripes of felt the the bass drum. Great playing.

  • @ZackAfonso Thanks for all the nice comments. Talking about the heads, John Bonham never had coated heads on his Vistalite kit. He only had them on his wood kits. The clear Remo CS Black Dots made the Vistys sound even louder and have more projection in volume than the traditional coated Emperor's. I do have the coated heads on my other Bonham Maple Kit. It's fun owning 9 drum sets. I can choose whatever mood I'm in. : ) Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • john bonham never used a doble peddal he used a speed king. you are taking some of the essence john bonham so incredible by putting a doble peddal in a drum like that.

  • @ZackAfonso Well thanks for that wonderful comment. I'm glad you think I was using double, but in fact I was using only a single pedal, and it is the LUDWIG Speed King Pedal. I would never use a double pedal on a JOHN BONHAM Amber Vistalite Reissue kit. It would just be outright nonsense. I guess my foot is getting faster than I thought. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • drums are tuned to high. and that snare sonds nothing like john's.

  • My phone couldn't keep up...u r beast...

  • Good drumming Joe! Like the kit. Whats normal retail on a kit like this?

  • @cdamauser1963 Well with the cymbals and stands the whole kit would go for about $5000. However, I got mine used from a friend for $1700 with hard shell cases. I still had to get the cymbals and stands extra. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • kit sounds great!you definitely did ur homework on bonzos sound......are u using 2b sticks, thats what he used,i think ur sticks are lighter

  • @crucialyze Well thanks for the nice comments. I am using 2B's and 5B's. I may be using 5B's in this vid, I'm not sure myself. When I was out in California in 2009, I talked with John Bonham's drum tech, Jeff Ocheltree, & he said they didn't make sizes back then the way they do now, but he said they were between & 5B and a 2B. So I bought both to try. The 2B's are a little thicker stick. The 5B's are about the same maybe just a little bit thinner. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • dude u have definetly got major talent with drums i hope u keep making videos on u playing drums maybe teaching ppl how to play drums like for begginers.....i hope ppl reconize u as a person with talent, and not just stupid trolls u will just criticize u.....like i said keep at it u are really good and keep posting videos....and keep rocking!

  • @sweetarmor97 Hey thanks for all the nice comments. I really appreciate them. I will continue to make videos, as long as people like you watch them. I will try and post stuff for Beginners - Advanced. Keep Rockin'

  • เก่งมากๆ

  • Are you playin with nylon tips or normal

  • @THUND3R63 Wood Tip. They are Vic Firth 2B's. I talked with John Bonham's drum tech Jeff Ocheltree, he said that Bonham used between a 5B & a 2B size stick. Hope that helps. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • DUDE UR A FUCKING BADASS!!!!!

  • @dangerrat456 Wow! dude thanks for the comment. I appreciate it alot. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Dude, you rock. Bonzo's my favorite drummer, you captured his essence very well. Rock on

  • Can you be my teacher?

  • @csz9 Sure where do you live? JOEDRUMS2112

  • What a great kit and great drumming skills, buddy! I just think on that part that you're doing the snare "solo" (around 3:10) you should use less the crashes and the ride. Not having cymbals is what builds up the tension of the snare and the hi hat pedal. Other than that, magnificent jog you did, Hat's off to you and Roy Harper hahahaha

  • YOU ARE A LUCKY GUY owning such a Beutiful kit and in my opinion you certainly have your Bonham licks smoking there.

I am trying to help drummers every where NOT to end up TRAIN WRECKED as IAM pls CHECK OUT & SHARE THE LINKS withALL THE DRUMMERS YOU KNOW BECAUSE i JUST WANT TO HELP MY BROS& SISTERS CHECK OUT

"DRUMBEATSTROKE" 2part video to help ALL . because of STROKE I only play with ONE HAND &FOOT no assists .Stroke is the USA 3rd killer andno.1 cause of incapacity.

  • I have a few questions about your cowbell. First: is it the cowbell that Bonzo used and if it is did it come with your reissue drums, because I know Paiste/Ludwig doesn't make the Gold Tone cowbells anymore don't make it anymore. And if it isn't the cowbell Bonzo used then what cowbell is it?

  • @RickyPinocchio The cowbell I am using is a Ludwig, chrome cowbell. I got it awhile ago. To get the Bonham cowbell, you may have to look for one online (ebay, craig's list) They are hard to come by. If you don't want to go that route, then just get a standard chrome cowbell by Ludwig or Paiste. Hope that helps. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 thanks, that was helpful.

  • Nice ! Tore it Up !

  • great fan , of the greates band ever :-D,

  • cool man you ever listen to joe bonamassa or Indigenous they're pretty good or how about black country with jason bonham and the bassist from deep purple. Oh joe bonanamassa is the lead guiatar also, very killer bands

  • @lickmaballsclean I've heard of Bonamassa from my cousin. He's a guitar player too. He is really good. The other bands I will check out . Thanks for the info. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @XDrUmErBoY512X

just curious what kind of music do you listen to?

  • @lickmaballsclean I love it all, but mostly Classic Rock, Funk, Jazz, some Heavy Metal. I like it all though. Thanks for watching, Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Awesome! The drums sound great. I'd love to play one of these kits.

  • @miketalbot4 They really are fun to play. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • bonhams alright.. def not the best... very overrated... my opinion though. everyones different. :)

  • if you lot want to hear bonzo style drums, search dylan elise and look at the four videos.its like bonhams apprentice.

  • @happyheadpopper Well I check him out. He's not doing everything note per note like Bonham, but he's still a very well trained drummer. Thanks for the info. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 I think playing note per note is pretty boring actually. I know it's hard and I'm not taking anything away from anyone (and I think you're an awesome drummer), but in my opinion everyone should have their own personal sound and style and stop copying their idols note per note. I hate it when someone does his own version of a certain song and people come complaining like "you loser didn't play it even close to the original one"..

  • @kaasupoltin Well I totally agree with you. Everyone should learn to play like his or her self, and in actuality we do whether we copy Bonham or Peart or any pro we love to play like. Nobody will play like them, but here's why we want to play like them. 1 Drummers play like the pros because they like the music and the beats they played,

2 Drummers learn other ways of playing beats and fills like our heros and makes us better drummers, 3 Pros even say they've learn from their heros. To Be Cont.

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Part 2. 4 The Pros often say, Great Drummers Steal. I've talked to countless pros (Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Jason Bonham, and many others) and they've all said that they learned & played like their heros when they were first started. So emulating our heros is really a good thing, it's what makes us improve our skills, we will still play like ourselves no matter what, but we've learned from our heros it doesn't make no brain drummers, it gets us closer to them. Thanks. JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Yep, I know what you mean and of course your heroes affect your playing, no matter what instrument we're talking about. And yeah, no one can play like someone else. But what I meant with my comment was that there are people who think that you play well only if you play exactly note per note.. I for one enjoy much more if someone does a completely different (and a good) version of a song, still keeping the original "spirit" of that song. That's even harder than playing note per note

  • @kaasupoltin Yep and with that, I totally agree with your comments. : ) Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' Always. JOEDRUMS2112

  • Well im not getting for a while but i suppose actually go down there this summer and try them but yea love those ludwigs

  • Joe these drums are the best I really love the kit cant wait to get mine but im gonna get a peace vistilite it wont good as the Ludwig but its there though and I love Ludiwg set though its the best

  • @Ryanpeacedrums Hey thanks dude. I really want to know when you get it, how you like it. Let me know. I am still waiting for my endorsement deal to go through. I will let you know when it's final and what I will get. Thanks for all the info you sent me. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • Nice sound and grooves man.

  • Very cool my friend!!!!

  • another goodie from joe thx -- mighty

  • That drum sound is accualy quite close to bonhams sound on the song remains the same dvd/album, you also play very bonzo'ish, keep it up !! great vid

  • @Sivertsen93 Thanks for watching. Thanks for the nice comments. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Wow... I've never heard such a low-pitched basedrum like this one! I'm playing drums for round about 10 years now and a few months ago I bought the Sonor Force 3007 Shell Set. I know that it's not a highend drumset but I thought it would be better to buy a medium-class set because if I want to add some pieces I wouldn't have to pay so much.

Now I'm so amazed of your Basedrum that I'll have to buy a 24 inch Sonor-Base to get a similar sound to your 26" base. :D

    Anyway great performace, dude! :)

  • @ypq2jebmp3 Hey thanks for all the nice comments. I appreciate them. I'm always glad to help out a fellow drummer. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • uff q hpta man mas teso uu mis respetos pa utd!

  • i love watching you play your so relaxed!

  • You need to tune everything up i think. Mainly the snare.

    Nice videos

  • @scott111193 I have tuned them up since then. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • hey joe i love your drumkit and i love johnbonham but i have a complicated question did john bonham have kinds of tunning?.. i mean your snare tunning is very close to tsrts....... but (watch?v=dmKeIlJq4gM) thats stairway to heaven live earls court omg please how can i get that snare sound? is it only about microphones or i dont know please explain me¨!! thanks

  • @giaffir34 Well yea the drums are going to sound way different live than in a studio. They have thousands and thousands of dollars of equipment that squash the sound and tighten everything up, then they eq the drums and put effects on them sometimes. It really is like two different worlds. Mic's also play a really big roll in getting the awesome Bonham sound, but it was also the way he played to get that certain sound that only Bonham can give. Everyone else just a copy. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • man.. good solo! i gotta say, u semmed a bit hard on yourself but you have a good grove man! I dig it!!! how much did that set cost you buy btw? also... what kind of cymbals are you using? everything sounds the same, i have to say the snare is a little off.. what snare are u using?

  • @imper246 The set was $1700 with hard shell SKB cases. All the cymbals are PAISTE 2002 series. The snare drum is the Chrome Ludwig 402 with Emperor Head on top and the bottom is the Ambassador clear. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • @ChowAtTheY i could say blink 182 is nothing without travis barker, not that im a fan of his, just an example for your claim that i couldnt name one. and yes he was good at the show business aspect of drumming, but drumming itself. why do you think there are so many bonham covers? bc its easily done. find me buddy rich covers or gene krupa covers or joe morello. they exist but theres farrr less bc their ability far more difficult to imitate.

  • id say chazratm does know what drums are?

  • @KoltonVogel indeed i do.

  • @jacksonmcivor I will try. Thanks JOEDRUMS

  • bonham is terribly overrated and just overall pretty bad

  • @chazratm Everyone has an opinion, and I guess you are entitled to yours. I must say though, your not hearing what millions and millions of drummers, professional and non professional are hearing, and that is John Bonham has changed the course of drumming history, and you can't take that away from him. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 ok thats what i use i also use the slide up pedal technique. moeller technique works well too

  • @JOEDRUMS@2112 i see you have like a long piece of tape it think thats what it is? across your bass drum.. does that piece of tape make your bass drum sound good or how do you get that sound

  • @marcus123211 The white strip you see is made of felt. John Bonham used one on the front and back of his bass drums to muffle the ring a little bit. Nowadays drummers use pillows and blankets to do the same thing. I hope that answers your question. THanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • Damn that was an awesome solo.

  • my dad told me that, tomorrow, i'd get a surprise... a BIG surprise. I wonder what is it?

  • .....damn.

  • Well you definitely have the tuning eerily close to the master, great drumming and nice to see that Ludwig have kept the memory of Bonzo alive with these beautiful reissues.

  • more cow bellll!!!!!

  • this does sound better than that other video. but then why did you use that crappier camera to make the video where the audio really counted and you were trying to teach ppl how to tune!?!?!

  • @squeezemylever5 My Camera was used only because at the time I recorded it, I thought the audio portion would have came out fine for people to use. In fact most said the tuning video really helped them. You were one of the first that said the drums didn't sound right. Thanks for noticing. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS
