I've heard both versions of Regine (without Ogie) and Sharon. Hearing them just confirms that Sarah sang it the best. In fairness to both women, they sang it in their own style, and not in the context of a well written story. Sarah had the benefit of singing it in her own style, even altering a few melodies to sound better (as what she does best), and performing it in Emerald's character. So, Kudos to Sarah for providing us one of the best moments in Television drama!
What you've heard confirms nothing but only your preference. I think the more appropriate word is "simplified" rather than "altering" the melody =) It's simplified not so that it would sound better, but because Sarah's vocals cannot level up to Regine's version. But still, kudos for Sarah for giving another good version of this song.
Gemininer, I thought it was clear, it is my preference. Every song has a base melody, the one sung by the original, in this case Regine and Ogie. Anything that deviates from that is a form of alteration. No doubt Regine has better vocal prowess, but lately she's becoming a Mariah. A lot of technique, less life. Singing, again in my own opinion, is about bringing a song to life.
Preference? Then make sure you say "IMO" or "I think" or "for me". Alteration is a good word for it, but was it altered to be more dificult, or to be plain and simple? In Sarah's case, it's simplified. But it was done appropriately for it's for a wedding, not a singing contest. Regine is very good in what she does, and so is Sarah. If for you Regine sounds too Mariahish, then to some people they think that Sarah sounds too Celineish and Regineish. Peace.

The reason why this rendition is so well accepted and praised is apart from the great plot which gave the song more meaning to viewers, is that Sarah sang while she was acting. Between singing and acting, she did more of the former, and the acting just flowed from there. They say true artists don't act, they become the character. And Sarah just did that phenomenally in this scene.
As Sarah delivers the last chorus, she gets a better grip of reality, calms down, ready to surrender her dream. She gives Terrence one last look as she delivers her last few lines "pangarap ko ang ibigin ka". She may have seen her dream vanish at that moment but she at least won in her struggle to be discreet about her true feelings. In her very last note, Sarah gives a hint that she is still not at peace, but believes that she will get there. . .
In her last few choruses, her mind tells her to surrender her dream but her heart doesn't want to give up the fight. Add to that her physical struggle to hold back tears and show her true feelings (Sarah even blinks more often in this part to prevent tears from flowing). During this part also you will see that the camera pans on her adoptive father twice, the second time with him crying as he empathizes with her daughter and sheds the tears for her.
Her emotions get the better of her in the Coda as she sings the lines "O kay tagal ko nang hinihintay na sa akin ay mag-aalay ng pag-ibig na tunay at di magwawakas" and she glances at Terrence, seemingly trying to confirm if what she is seeing is really happening.
She ends the second verse smiling, but a little awkward, still trying to hide her true emotion, specially now that the bride and groom are right in front of her. In the second chorus, her inner struggle builds up even more and I felt that she was now feeling the pain as her dream slowly slips away right in front of her.
When she starts to sing the first chorus, it is a mixture of hope and sadness as she realizes there are very slim chances of her dream happening. As she goes through the next verse, she transcends into her dream hoping against hope, not giving up on her dream. In her line "O kay sarap naming isipin" you can truly see her being torn. The lines are supposed to make her feel happy just by saying it but she is enveloped with sadness as reality bites her.
Sarah really nailed it in this song. I never knew what the song meant until I saw this. It speaks of a young woman who is torn between being happy or sad (extremely more of the latter) seeing her one true love get married to someone else who she can't find any flaw. Her rendition clearly revealed this as she sang the first few verses softly, quite unsure what she is feeling and wary that people might see through her.

It's a show in the Philippines called "Pangarap Na Bituin"..and well yes I guess the genre of the show is drama mixed with comedy.

I've heard both versions of Regine (without Ogie) and Sharon. Hearing them just confirms that Sarah sang it the best. In fairness to both women, they sang it in their own style, and not in the context of a well written story. Sarah had the benefit of singing it in her own style, even altering a few melodies to sound better (as what she does best), and performing it in Emerald's character. So, Kudos to Sarah for providing us one of the best moments in Television drama!

What you've heard confirms nothing but only your preference. I think the more appropriate word is "simplified" rather than "altering" the melody =) It's simplified not so that it would sound better, but because Sarah's vocals cannot level up to Regine's version. But still, kudos for Sarah for giving another good version of this song.

Gemininer, I thought it was clear, it is my preference. Every song has a base melody, the one sung by the original, in this case Regine and Ogie. Anything that deviates from that is a form of alteration. No doubt Regine has better vocal prowess, but lately she's becoming a Mariah. A lot of technique, less life. Singing, again in my own opinion, is about bringing a song to life.

Preference? Then make sure you say "IMO" or "I think" or "for me". Alteration is a good word for it, but was it altered to be more dificult, or to be plain and simple? In Sarah's case, it's simplified. But it was done appropriately for it's for a wedding, not a singing contest. Regine is very good in what she does, and so is Sarah. If for you Regine sounds too Mariahish, then to some people they think that Sarah sounds too Celineish and Regineish. Peace.

Geminier, I thought I started my sentence with "I've heard both versions. . ." Anyway, interpreting a song doesn't mean making it more difficult to sing. It may be more entertaining but that's all it ever will be, no breath, no wings; it fades with the orchestra. Yes, Sarah has faults, everybody does. She mimics, she's young and hopefully she will outgrow it. But for this song, she found her voice. My comments here are reserved for the video posted only; and for that, I applaud Sarah.

Saying that you've heard both versions, only means that you've heard both versions. The more proper way of saying it is "I've heard both versions, and IMO..." Anyways, every singer has their own way of interpreting songs, whichever one you prefer, is up to you. But our preferences should not deny facts. If your comments are only reserved for this video, then avoid comparing Sarah to Regine or Sharon, and saying that this version is the best. 'Yon lang =)

Geminier, I trust that readers of comments here can read between the lines; no need to spell out everything. We have the tyranny of space here, 500 characters max, so I don't bother giving details to what is self-explanatory. If you don't get it, wala na akong magagawa. You and I obviously come from different directions so at best we can agree to disagree. Let's leave it at that. I feel like I'm going in circles to bring my message across. It's not worth it. The reason why this rendition is so well accepted and praised is apart from the great plot which gave the song more meaning to viewers, is that Sarah sang while she was acting. Between singing and acting, she did more of the former, and the acting just flowed from there. They say true artists don't act, they become the character. And Sarah just did that phenomenally in this scene.

As Sarah delivers the last chorus, she gets a better grip of reality, calms down, ready to surrender her dream. She gives Terrence one last look as she delivers her last few lines "pangarap ko ang ibigin ka". She may have seen her dream vanish at that moment but she at least won in her struggle to be discreet about her true feelings. In her very last note, Sarah gives a hint that she is still not at peace, but believes that she will get there. . .

In her last few choruses, her mind tells her to surrender her dream but her heart doesn't want to give up the fight. Add to that her physical struggle to hold back tears and show her true feelings (Sarah even blinks more often in this part to prevent tears from flowing). During this part also you will see that the camera pans on her adoptive father twice, the second time with him crying as he empathizes with her daughter and sheds the tears for her.

Her emotions get the better of her in the Coda as she sings the lines "O kay tagal ko nang hinihintay na sa akin ay mag-aalay ng pag-ibig na tunay at di magwawakas" and she glances at Terrence, seemingly trying to confirm if what she is seeing is really happening.

She ends the second verse smiling, but a little awkward, still trying to hide her true emotion, specially now that the bride and groom are right in front of her. In the second chorus, her inner struggle builds up even more and I felt that she was now feeling the pain as her dream slowly slips away right in front of her.

When she starts to sing the first chorus, it is a mixture of hope and sadness as she realizes there are very slim chances of her dream happening. As she goes through the next verse, she transcends into her dream hoping against hope, not giving up on her dream. In her line "O kay sarap naming isipin" you can truly see her being torn. The lines are supposed to make her feel happy just by saying it but she is enveloped with sadness as reality bites her.

Sarah really nailed it in this song. I never knew what the song meant until I saw this. It speaks of a young woman who is torn between being happy or sad (extremely more of the latter) seeing her one true love get married to someone else who she can't find any flaw. Her rendition clearly revealed this as she sang the first few verses softly, quite unsure what she is feeling and wary that people might see through her.
