Brad if this is you or if you are simply the interviewer, can you please ask Brad to post his songs "Children of the Fire" & "Stampede" from the Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead movie soundtrack. since they're not on the actual physical soundtrack CDs or tapes, please. Lots of people are looking for those songs including myself & we can't find them!
Brad stepped to the plate after Randy Rhoads died when Ozzy was under contract to make an album,so Ozzy said NO Randy tunes on this album and ONLY Black Sabbath tunes which created Speak of the devil,OZZY,BRAD,TOMMY,RUDY ALL Out did them selves on that recording,I LOVE THAT ALBUM!!!!!
@back2thefutre He took it out because when he would walk to far away from the receiver or when he had his volume turned all the way up (while using a distortion or overdrive) the guitar would make a horrible noise.
My English isn't that great so I don't know how to discribe it...
He had a switch with 2 outputs soldered to the wiring so he could choose using the wireless system or a standard cable by flicking a switch (which he also removed later).
@metal4life68 I agree! I was FLOORED by the way he played those songs during the Speak of The Devil tour! The way he uses the "whammy' bar! Makes you wanna learn guitar or even do "air guitar!" Imagine what Bark At The Moon onward would've sounded like IF Brad had stayed!
I was 14 years old I heard Speak of the Devil I had the casette and record and later Cd because it is such a kick ass recording and it is in my mp3 player now. The only live album i like better is Tribute.
@metal4life68 I TOTALLY AGREE! I was 15 when I 1st Heard Speak of the Devil, and I Loved the Guitar Sound,Drum Sound, Vocals Etc I Got SERIOUS about Playing Guitar and went and Bought New Guitar Strings for a Gibson Acoustic my Dad gave me a couple years Earlier, that had Been lying around with Broken Strings, etc.and Have Been A Guitar Freak ever since!
@AngelofAnguish Totally different. Think about it. If Brad had have stayed, all of Jake's song writing wouldn't have existed. So the record would have been totally different. I think Brad's a great player, but Jake was a stunner too. I reckon Randy, Jake and Brad all take the cake with regards to Ozzy's guitarists. Zakk never did it for me. Joe Holmes was a pretty decent player too.
Glad he made a living...err...not really linguistically a guitar "player" I can relate to...would rather listen to someone who can swing..like Jeff Watson.
I love that Brad still has the same guitar he had in the 80z. Unlike most musicians, we either got our's stolen, sold it, or butchered it throughout the years.
Thanks to YouTube that we can see our favorites giving us lessons now that we are old, successful, and fat... Rock on Brad, you are still a legend in my eyes. The paranoid version you did with Ozzy is still the best...
SOTD was actually the first time I'd ever heard alot of those old Sabbath tunes. I remember feeling let down when I finally heard the originals! Was so used to Brad's playing. I listened to that (double) album 2-3 times a day for about a year. Loved it as well, still think it's way underrated.. What do you think of Kerslake??
Dude I felt the same way. After listening to Brad playing those songs, hearing the originals seemed strange. They sounded so dated and SOTD seemed to give the songs life. I have however come to appreciate Sabbath and the original recordings. Legendary!!!!!
Killer - Grew Up Jamin' watchin etc ...-- just now makin an ozzy compilation disc for my car & next to the N.I.B. Track i put {Live - Brad Gillis Guitar-] ..did a spell check of his last name -how many "L"'s in gilis - & clicked this link ..still jammin to Brad ..badass guitar ...
yea, i shoulda clarified. Gilis leads me to jake because brad failed me when he did that ranger thing i used to make mixed tapes and would make the gilis, jake e lee, lynch, angelo, malmsteen, mcalpine jamz for the car but yes..lee=badlands george=mob .. made that disc already gave it away ..SO..i need to put some badlands, lynch mob, dont tell me u love me with speek of the devil mix from brad on a disc for the car once again now after today
seems brad sounded best on one song with night ranger & prior on ozzy ..just my take, it was with the ranger series he lost me..metal heds ive come accross agree .not necassarily 'guitar lovers in general"..iF chris adler from lamb of god suddenly joins a pop group they would loose my purchase<-exampl. {Fortunately DEATH is finally in style today & the ZACK WILDES can stick with the category & grow success after the ozzy spell ..badlands woulda done better if'n death was in style at that time.
OK, just for the record, cannot stand Lamb of God :P but thats another story. I think Gillis covered Rhoads well. His solo in Dont tell me you love me is quality, but he did plenty of other great solos too. I think you just haven't heard the right solos. Jake was a beast of a player and we all know that. Cannot stand Zakk Wylde tbh. He is too samey and I find he has no real charisma to his playing. I prefer Zakk Wylde young No More Tears era to Zakk Wylde nowadays.
I always loved Gillis' style. Very under rated. Taking Randy's place for the Speak of the Devil tour was pretty brave. He had people cursing him and throwing shit. Assholes were acting as if he came along saying "I'm the new Randy so deal it" which was nowhere near the truth. I wonder if he realized the shit that would come his way and whether that influenced him not staying with Ozzy. Ozzy wanted him to stay so bad. They could have been really good together if people would have stopped the shit
Brad's bad ass, man! Besides, ALL guitarists have a little 'tude! He's a helluva nice guy!...I met him and his daughter after a show, some years ago, and he was super nice and gave everyone a lot of time!
I'm sorry, Brad needs a good dose of humility. He's a fantastic player and I saw him right after Randy died. He did a great job filling those shoes really. I guess I don't get along with pompous, selfish asses....I'd take Jerry Rice over TO any day. Love to hear Brad play, just lose the attitude and shut the fuck up.

Uh... So the fluttering part at the end is a bunch of hammer-on/pull-offs on the left hand, no picking on the right hand, just fluttering?
Is that the guitar that has #3 Floyd Rose (after EVH and Schon)?

This is exactly why guitar instructional videos SUCK. It's just a bunch of shredders showing off... and no instruction.
