  • i really want a new revolver but moneys an issue so do you any goood sites to buy this cheap? otherwise ill be getting a glock 17 -_- i foud them at 500$

  • YES! hollow-point bullets are for home defense. The "mushrooming" of the bullet prevents over penetration, which is ideal for close quarters: non hollow-point bullets(FMJ) can easily pass through a person and continue through a wall and harm someone on the other side!

  • hollow point for a home defense bullet?

  • @cutenukkah Always! Reduces the chance of over penetration. A major concern in close quarters urban combat.

  • also comes in a 4.2 inch barrel length for the Canadian market

  • how do you like the hks speed loader? I'm buying the 686 soon but do not know anything really about good loaders...

  • how would this gun compare to the 625 JM?

  • @buckwheat40

625JM - It's nice in that is comes from the factory already cut for moon clips(nice). 45 ACP is a good round, but in a revolver without the moonclip, the bullet will not hold in the chamber, so without a moonclip you can't shoot.

625 JM comes with a wood grip(which looks better IMO) but also only comes in 4inches. This gun was designed with competition in mind. Moon clips are faster than speed loaders but it's easier to bend a moon clip which will make it useless. Just my opinion

  • 38 will kill just as good as 357

  • Did you polish this gun?

  • @TheFirearmEnthusiast Yes. Flitz and a Dremel.

  • nice review.... i agree 357 is too much for home defence....... but .38 +p is good

  • Good video. Really like this weapon and hope to purchase one someday. Have a Ruger gp100 that I enjoy but want a Smith to round out my revolver collection.

  • how much does one of those go for i really like the design and the fact that its stainless steel and chrome plated makes it ever more sweeter...

  • @stigmatic79 It is not chrome, I just polished it.

  • Thanks for the review. The one i have is actually my dad's, but i get to use it more than him recently. It's a real sweet one, very accurate. I prefer the 6 inch one my dad used to have but i don't know what happened to it :(

  • Aside form all the 6 shot and 7 shot versions, there are other varities. I've got the 586 which is the blue version. They also make a stainless 681 that is closer along the lines of the Model 10... ie... no adjustable sights. I think they also make a blued version called the 581. Incredible works of art!

  • I love this gun. Still haven't purchased a 686, but it is on my list. Great review, I share your affection for this outstanding weapon. And you are correct, it is amazingly accurate, especially in single action mode.

  • Thanks for the good review I intend to buy one but sadly in Thailand S&W 686 cost around 3,000 USD ++ but I can live with it may be next year when I have enough money I will buy it, Thanks again for the good video

  • Clean your gun dude

  • @chopstick223 My guns are far neglected. But thanks...

  • 0:16 i don't

  • @MOEFRACKEY69 And I guess you don't have to. The beauty of this country!

  • u say that the 686 plus model's only difference with this one is that it has a 7 shot capacity. Well then if U have a normal 686 just like the one in the video can it's cylinder be actually replaced with the 7 shot plus? please respond im really inteerested :O

  • @Miguelsr1rst Sorry for the late response. No, it is not that simple. The mechanism that revolves the cylinder would also have to be changed out. Best just buy the one you want from the start.

  • i never seen the 8 inch 686!

  • Excellent review of a very fine revolver. Just got a 686+ (7-shooter) and love it! Haven't fired it yet but will be soon. Great vid you've posted; will look for more.

  • what ammo do you have in the video?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic Just the "cheap" Winchester White Box 155gr (I think) Half Jacketed Hollow Point. Not a bad round considering the cost.

  • @RIPbiker13 ok thank you

  • how much was this gun?

  • @drlove8855 I bought this gun in 2006 for $650.

  • Blimey that really is a beautiful looking thing.

  • great revolver! i picked up a 3in, a couple days ago, and it shoots great. recoil is nothing in .357mag, i would highly recommend this to any gun owner, that wants a lifetime piece.

  • I want the Model 686 PLUS - Distinguished Combat Magnum, and I need your opinion.

  • @maltieskitten I'd call you crazy for NOT getting one! I only got the 6 round model because I wanted a "Six Shooter." But if I could do it over, I'd think about getting the Plus model instead.

  • @RIPbiker13 My dealer doesn't have the Distinguished Combat model so I need to order it from Davidson's, but I'm willing to pay a grand for perfection, lol.

  • @maltieskitten

why not get a used one

  • I have shot that! One helluva gun!! Sweet!!

  • Good review except for the part where you keep calling it a pistol. Its a revolver.

  • @javy051 It is a revolver, which is also a pistol.

  • well done and thx for the vids.

  • @Caesar1450 No problem! Thanks for watching!

  • Great review. Thanks for all the details.

  • @Arathyn You're welcome! Sorry for the late reply.

  • Spot on review, and good info on the cartridge being over powered for home defense

  • @TNPviewer It's the same with using a 12ga for home defense. The truth is, it takes more training to use that type of weapon so you don't hurt the wrong person. CorBon Glasser Safety is the way to go for home defense. Granted, you need to be able to hit your target, but the risk of over penetration (which should ALWAYS be a consideration) is reduced.
