I love the Carters, all of 'em, from the very beginning...but there's one fact that can't be denied: Anita got the looks and the talent. She should have been a superstar.
I just want to say thank you so much for posting this. I'd never even heard of Anita until I'd stumbled across this and I just fell in love. She's now my very favorite female artist period. Bless people like you and the internet for keeping little known artists like her from disappearing from our consciousness. <3
I have always wondered why Anita didn't get the attention, she was so much better that any of her family. About the only time you really got to hear her beautiful voice was as a backup singer. I have never heard her sing this song, thank you for posting it. She even had the looks of the family why wasn't she as famous as June Carter?
Oh God, what effortless grace and a voice that actually flies. I throw my two cents behind the notion Anita had no real rivals vocally. Her voice inspires both awe and a connection to her true spirit within.
I discovered Anita in her live duet with Hank Williams, "I can't help it." I was immediately floored by her voice. Who Is This? I thought, then I noticed the family resemblance. It sent chills up my spine. What an angel's voice, truly supernatural. God bless her.
The most talented family group that I have heard in my 72 years on this earth. Anita had the most beautiful voice of any that I have ever heard. Gone too soon.
Truly the best voice i ever heard, she died too young, all the carter sisters did. Its a great tragedy, very few people in Australia have heard the truly breathtaking music of the carters, it's a great shame. Thank god for youtube. What a tremendous talent she was.
On my mom, Anita's grave I had "On Tour With The Angels" inscribed. And she is there with them all..grandma, aunt Helen and aunt June. They were the best of friends. They worked together, vacationed together and gave themselves to the world for their entire lives. And in my heart, they are just on the biggest and best tour of all. Mom was very content singing with her family. She had no interest in being a star. I think that she felt a responsibility to her family. That was just the way she was.
@singasonglorriegirl I wish I could thank your mother for her great voice but I can't, so I will thank you for helping us to remember her. I do hope she knows, somehow, how she is still loved, by those she never met.
@singasonglorriegirl I wish I could thank your mother for her great voice but I can't, so I will thank you for helping us to remember her. I do hope she knows, somehow, how she is still loved, by those she never met.
@singasonglorriegirl I have come across your mother's lovely voice and wish that I had been able to hear her sing in person. Was she as warm as she feels to me in her songs?? I am sorry for her having passed and I feel for your loss, as my mother has also passed along with my father. 2 years ago today, which is this year's mother's day. So It is my hope and prayer that you and I and many more have a non-sad day today and remember the love and friendship of our dear mothers. God bless you. Brian
Anita has a beautiful voice...the purest of anyone. I have a collection of her songs, "Appalachian Angel" and they are all so good. I think this collection was made in Germany. It is very special as it has so many songs I had never heard.
I have a good collection of Anita Carter and I think she has the purest voice of anyone. Great on any song! She just did not want to leave the Carter Family and go out on her own. She could have made it big! But she is still big in my eyes.
For those that do not believe in Angels, all you need do is listen to Anita sing! Tell me, after hearing her voice, you do not believe in them.
In all honesty, I know her her well, but have never heard this song.... yet, here I sit, about 1:40 into this song, and on the verge of tears. Beautiful, simply wonderful AND beautiful.
That WAS a joke, please take it as such. We do not have to believe the same way, but we both got atleast one thing in common, so its alright on my end. lol
Thanks for posting this, beautiful and haunting. I remember hearing her on occasion in the '60's and '70's, but not frequently. I always wondered why she didn't get more fame and radio play. She recorded a good number of songs, didn't she? Did she have bad management? Do you think being a Carter sister pigeon-holed her adversely?
Anita carter and this song are amazing. I had never heard this song before your posting. It has become my favorite. Thanks for posting. If this was re-released today, it would be a major hit.
Wow! This song really knocked me out! More to the point, Anita's beautiful voice has an incredibly haunting, ethereal, otherworldly sound and that's what captivates me. Just beautiful!
I agree that she has one of the great voices ever. You can really here her backing Johnny on some of his songs, Peace in the Valley for one. The whole Carter family were just special and a real gift to music.
All of us owe a huge thank you to Donny for even posting this to begin with. So Donny, thank you. I agree with everyone on here. Anita Carter had a voice which, in my humble opinion, rivaled both Patsy Cline's and Judy Collins'. Wouldn't it have been interesting to hear her do "Sweet Dreams" and "Amazing Grace" in her own way with that incredible voice? Ah well. Thanks again Donny, and good day to all.
You are very welcome, and thank you for your kind words. I always hoped that Anita would gain the attention that she so richly deserved. Once again, thank you. You have made my day!
@mczimmerman1 Interesting comment. I'm not so sure that Anita's voice would have worked on those songs, and I mean that in only a complimentary way. Anita had neither the growl of Patsy Cline nor the street-soul of Judy Collins.
Her voice was as crystal-clear as a Clinch Mountain stream and just a pure. There were never any theatrics or pretense in her performance...her Carter breeding and training gave us only what was real and beautiful.
when one talks of a beauty of a singer, the beauty of this download, surely reflects the beauty of her voice ,she has such a angelic look to her face in one of the pictures in the vidio, that is angelic to the look of ones eye singing this song, no wonder alot of the comments on her are angelic to ones remarks about her, she does bring a beauty about her and in her voice that is just beautiful to ones heart, as the sparrow goes, truely ones heart will be lead bye ones love.
truely anita carter is the voice of the carter sisters ,she displays a beautiful aqua sound to her voice that is unmatched in this rendition of the song as sparrows goes. she definently was blessed with a beautiful voice !!! great download
Check out Anita's vocals on Johnny Cash, Carter Family video on you tube- Were You There - Anita had such a rich voice but she was not the showman that June was and was overshadowed.
With a voice like that, she could've had a long solo career!!! Anita, of all the female vocalists of her era, was among the greatest!!! She also graced duets with folks like Hank Williams, Hank Snow, and Waylon Jennings.....plus backup for Johnny Cash, and her family..... Seems to me she should've been put in the country music Hall of Fame, along with her sisters!! Another example of the "new powers that be" in Nashville!
