  • Obviously, the souls of those in hell still exist. In Rev.20:12, the souls of all the dead (whether small, great, rich, poor etc) that had been burning for at the very least 1000 years will arise at the voice of Jesus to stand b/4 His white throne judgment, to be cast into the eternal fiery lake (the second death). This will not occur if the souls get destroyed immediately upon its arrival into hell. Furthermore, there will be no second death if the souls in hell get annihilated.

  • well, here is a problem for you:

the reward of going to heven, is ethernal life, there for, the punishment of going to hell, can't also be ethernal life.

  • @eyallev amen

  • @eyallev

Eternal life as defined by the Bible is "knowing [the Father] the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom [he] sent" (John 17:3)

Remember on the day that Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they died.

In other words life without fellowship with God is not life at all.

  • God cant let evil souls create eternal havoc & chaos. Remember there is no time in the spiritual only eternity. Spirit bodies are not limited like human bodies & know everything. Evil souls will always have their sins before them knowing they deserve their punishment. Their torment will keep them confined in the Lake of Fire where there is no escape to corrupt again. Repent of your sins & turn to Jesus today while you are still alive, as after death, it is too late. Make the right choice & live.

  • And all those righteous translated people from Adam up until Jesus's second coming on Mt Olivet will return with Jesus when He destroys the antichrist & false prophet, then He will judge all nations as either goat nations or sheep nations (depending on how they treated Israel) & judge the wicked dead & alive placing them all in the Lake of Fire. The worm that never dies is the soul. Your soul is eternal..either eternally wicked or eternally righteous. That is why evil souls must be contained.

  • cont: Paradise is empty now, only Hell remains. When Jesus returned after those 3 days in the earth He appeared to the disciples & if you study those scriptures, it says that the graves were opened & the righteous dead were seen walking around & appeared to people during this time. Those were the people Jesus took with Him to Heaven. Also when the rapture happens, the remainder righteous dead that died after this will arise first, then meet the raptured saints in the sky to be forever with Jesus

  • Hell is not death, it's a place. Hell is located in the bowels of the earth. Across the gulf in between was paradise where all those righteous that died before the birth, death, resurrection of Jesus dwelled after they died. After Jesus died on the cross, he went down into hell for 3 days & got the keys from satan (as Jesus fulfilled the penalty for Adam & mankind for sin taking back dominion). Jesus also "took captivity captive" or redeemed the righteous dead & took them with Him to heaven.

  • Hell = grave. How did Abraham get to "paradise" without Jesus? If the "damned" are sent to a fiery, eternal torment when they die, then what is the logic of judging them a second time at the "Final Judgment"? Maggots are not immortal. They don't die because they turn into flies and lay eggs that hatch into more maggots. The fire will not be quenched but will burn itself out and the wicked will be ashes under our feet . Malachi 4:1-3 We need to study more for ourselves without man's interpretation.

  • Laqueyhornet has no clue. Lake of fire is the 2nd death, and death and hell are cast into it.

  • Hell is the grave (second death) John 3:16 only those who believe recieve life eternal. He will destroy darkness forever do not believe these lies.

  • We have to remember that in In the parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus, Christ was meeting the people on their own ground. The doctrine of a conscious state of existence between death and the resurrection was held by many of those who were listening to Christ's words. The Saviour knew of their ideas, and He framed His parable so as to inculcate important truths through these preconceived opinions.

  • @Lysimachus78 so he allowed them to continue to believe something that wasn't true when he had an oppurtunity to correct their doctrine? Sorry, I dont buy it.

  • @av1611

You have to employ scripture with scripture. In Matt 5:29, 30; 13:38-42; 49, 50, Jesus puts the burning of the body at "the end of the age". Body parts are mentioned in the parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus. The Lake of Fire envelops the entire world according to 2 Pet 3:10-13. It clearly "dissolves" all the elements. In Rev. 21, the earth is made new. If the lake of fire torments the wicked eternally (called "torturism), how could God ever remake the earth with the fire in the way?

  • @Lysimachus78 There are so many issues with this Russelite teaching that I'm not even sure where to begin, so we'll start simply. Who is being tormented in Rev 14, and how long are they tormented for?

  • @av1611preacher

    1. Rev. 14:10 says those who receive the mark shall be "tormented with fire"

    2. Rev 14:11 says the smoke ascends up forever and ever.

This does not mean that the fire burns forever. It just means the smoke goes up forever out of sight. John borrowed this concept from Isa 34:9-17. Notice that it says the smoke rises up forever in the land of Bozrah and Idumea, yet immediately after it says the thorns, owls, cormorant, bittern, and fortresses shall possess it that land!

  • @Lysimachus78 Yes, the smoke rises forever because the Lake of Fire burns forever, thats why they have 'no rest, day or night'

  • @av

Those who are snuffed out of existence have no rest day or night. It's speaking of that eternal rest in Christ Jesus. They will never experience that eternal rest. We have literally HUNDREDS of texts in the Bible that tell us the wicked will be "no more", they will be "ashes under the soles of our feet", they will be "consumed", and "burned up". Keep in mind also that Revelation is a book of symbols, describing those who burn forever and ever as the "whore", "beast", & "false prophet".

Sir, I have nothing to do whatsoever with the Watchtower Society. In fact, I consider them to be a cult probably far more than you do. I am from Seventh-Day Adventist background, although I am not officially a member. I hold to most of their eschatological interpretations. JW's and Adventists only "happen" to have similar views on hell-fire. It is wrong to "lump" people in a crowd simply because certain aspects of beliefs may line up.

  • @Lysimachus78 Oh boy, thats what I get for shooting off my mouth. Please accept my apologies. Although I believe the Adventists to be at odds with the Scriptures in several areas, I do hold them in a higher regard than the watchtower cultists.

  • @av1611preacher

And for the record, the teaching I have espoused concerning the termination of the wicked in the Lake of Fire is not unique to JW's or Adventists. This teaching was prominent among many great Reformers in the Dark Ages, and was understood by many orthodox Jews. And also, I might remind you that Adventists have far more differences with JW's than you mainstream evangelicals do with them. Hell-fire is just a rare exception, but even we don't hold exactly the same on hell-fire.

  • @av

In a nutshell, Jehovah's Witnesses believe the wicked will be obliterated instantaneously by hell-fire. We as Adventists believe that all the wicked, Satan, and his evil angels will burn at different lengths, "according to their works". In other words, those who rejected the most light will suffer the longest. Satan will no doubt burn the longest. Perhaps centuries. A young boy who knew little, yet was deserving of stripes, will burn up quickly. For scriptural support see Luke 12:47-49.

  • @av

It is my prayer to God that you will be able to discern the logic and clear lines of truth I have presented to you from the scriptures. I am not trying to shove my beliefs down your throat, but I am concerned that you do not show yourself open to see that Satan has the entire Christian world deluded into false doctrines. While evangelicals sit around all day accusing JW's and Adventists of being "cults", at the same time they are shaking hands with the Pope of Rome committing abomination.

  • @Lysimachus78 well I can't claim to speak for anybody but myself, but I can tell you that I have no love for Rome.

  • @Lysimachus78 There are so many issues with this Russelite teaching that I'm not even sure where to begin, so we'll start simply. Who is being tormented in Rev 14, and how long are they tormented for?

  • (cont.) The results or consequences are eternally irrevocable. And of course, it is worthy of mention that the words “everlasting” and “eternal” in the New Testament are both translated from the same Greek word, “aionos”.

  • "Everlasting punishment" (Matt. 25:46) is not endless punishing, nor is "everlasting destruction" (2 Thess. 1:9) endless destroying, anymore than "eternal salvation" (Heb. 5:9) is endless saving, or "eternal judgment" (Heb. 6:2) is endless judging, or “eternal redemption” (Heb 9:12) is endless redeeming, or “everlasting gospel” (Rev 14:6) is endless preaching. The "eternal" pertains to the result, and not to the process. (cont.)

  • Fire not being quenched does not mean the fire does not go out. It just means nobody can put it out, but it will go out once the unquenchable fire has consumed all its targeted elements. In Jeremiah 17:27, he predicted a fire that would "not be quenched" that destroyed the palaces of Jerusalem and the gates. The story of the Rich Man and Lazarus is a parable, and it isn't referring to "souls", but using "body parts"--"eyes", "finger", "tongue", "bosom"--this it cannot be taken literally.
