These arrays were used as antenna arrays for HF jamming applications, this is why they can be rotated. This way they could cover certain areas. Phasing control of elevation angle was also achieved. Powers used flushed parts of eastern Europe from "unfriendly" signals, such as VOA's and RadioFreeEurope's. The transmitters are in poor condition now, but they still work.
jesus that is some serious big ass 80 meter antenna for broadcast I'd love to use it for the Amateur Radio band as well it would be amazeing wonder how far it could transmit? good video very intresting stuff. Stephen M3SNV 73.
Im and IT technician and our wireless networks work on 2.4ghz and 5 ghz and when you pump up the wattage for long distance networks, you have to be careful not to get to close to the antennas because they can cook you. I was wondering how these antennas were at that. I understand they run at much lower frequencies but still... 1MW
If I would win the power ball or mega millions I will have something like this or at least a Big Bertha with several log periodics on it yell just dreaming but you never know!
God Dammit.. Another monster...Bet you needed to read instructions to assemble this massive beauty..Let me measure my back yard and see if I can fit one in..73's KB7ZJF
What the hell with the "sport"?Are you still ham or MW broadcasting station? It's f****g impressing, true, but what will you do when you do ALL NEEDED? Envy, but rather sad.73, Tomasz.
Wow that's awesome. Why does it rotate? It seems to me that it would cause loss of signal like loss of air from an oscillating fan? What are some other bad boy antennas to look at?
Very impressive; I see a similar antenna feed to each dipole as on the old Russian 'Woodpecker' array, and that was my first thought when I saw the 'business' side with the many dipole radiating elements of this large array!
WOW!Imagine that in your backyard.A thing of beauty to us hams but what will the neighbours say HI HI? Dont think I could convince the xyl to lay out thecash for that HI.73,Don,VO1H
This is the small array only 70m high but is rotaiting 360`. In this facility there are meny big antenas and array. Lots of irons, copper, wires and steal :) There is 64 matching dipols antena in 180m higt this is very impressive + 1MW power output. Really the great HAMRADIO AMATEUR dream. 73 from Bulgaria :)
First of all there is little directivity on 80 meters, is it worth doing this for a db or less?
Mine is bigger than yours hmh?

Interesting!
One of my first questions is: Why does a 'broadcast' antenna need to be rotatable?
Or is this just a feature left over from the array's less-than-domestic-purpose history?
Be interested to know about that.
