Daimler was Britain's oldest car manufacturer and one of the world's great marques. Up to just before WWII the Daimler name was equivalent to Rolls-Royce. Then the royal family (except the Queen Mother) stopped using them in state functions and they faded. The name was bought by Jaguar in 1960 and used for their top-of-the-line Jaguar sedans. This is still the case today in Europe, though in the USA, due to possible confusion with Damiler-Benz, Jag use the Vanden Plas name for their top sedans.
Jaguar didn't buy just the Dailmer name, they bought the entire company, including the Radford works, Coventry. This site went on to build the V12 engine and the Daimler limousines.
