color is something that is a pigment it dosent define you people of every race have a stereo type they some how now and then follow . there's ignorance in every culture , but when we all look past it it makes the world better , try not to hate a race try to hate people who do certen things dont assume every one of that race dose the same thing just a majority of that race might , im puerto rican and el salvidorian but hang with all races in woodland hills California
Just look at the Oscar awards. Hattie McDaniel received an Academy for being a man. Halle Berry received an award for being a slut for an old white man. Monique received an award for being an abusive mother. Just at these three cases and someone like Ellen should understand why there is a need for NAACP awards. Hollywood does not recognize black actors unless they are playing disparaging roles.
@josbo51715 I agree with you 100%. Even know i look back at that movie monster's ball and hate it for what it is a big disgrace. Halle Berry is so beautiful and they had to use the nasty old guy to do her. she looked so nasty in that sex scene and the way he was treating her proves that's how they see black woman as slaves and nothing eles.
Ellen Pompeo does bring up a good point about seperation, and I think she means well. However, I don't see that our society is set up to where everything is equal for everyone...that's why I believe the need still exists for the NAACP, BET, historically black colleges and the like. If this country honored, valued and showed appreciation for ALL people from the begining, there would have never been a need for organizations, entertainment, and institutions based on race!
I also really don't like that she says she gots her a little colored baby. I hate that. I don't like her character on the show Grey's Anatomy (even though I really like the show) and I'm starting to think I don't like her....don't know her enough to make a full decision on this, but she's a celebrity so...*shrug*
I don't mean to be so pessimistic, but we will never get to a point where there will be no racism or separation. It's too idealistic to assume that one day race won't matter. The idea is already out there. It cannot be destroyed. Additionally, we will always need HBCUs, awards for African Americans, etc. It's a part of our culture &we deserve to have them. It's a matter of pride. I'm sorry for this too, but I agree w/Jill's quote. Most black women (ones w/o a white parent) would.
@LesciK12 ...what do you mean by the ones (without a white parent would)do you believe because my mom is white i am love by whites and every-thing comes ez . ha ha ha ha ha ha ha aha ha ah aha ha
@wbooker10 That's not what I said. I mean that mixed children are more accepting of interracial couples because of their parents. It has nothing to do with how whites treat black in general. I'm not talking about that. I'm saying that most black women aren't so happy about black men dating white women and the ones that are cool with it usually have one white parent.
@LesciK12 ..You should just say i don't believe in mix race married ,don't put most black women in it, because you're sounding like a fool ok. My aunts and cousins from my father side of my family don't have a problem with my mother or any mix race familys, so just speak for your self. thank you
@wbooker10 I'm not speaking for everyone. I'm speaking statistically and from my own experiences and observations. Your family may not have a problem with it, but (no disrespect intented) ask your family from your father's side and see if they initially had some reservations. They may be fine with it now, but maybe they weren't at first. Maybe not. Not all black women have a problem with it, but most do. Its been studied. Its not just my opinon.
@LesciK12 ..My father is a Grey Hound Bus Driver and my mother is a public school teacher they have been togett.. for 14yrs now and they are very happy ,so whats wrong with that. You ask me to ask my aunts and cousins if they had some reservations ,well then i want to ask you why do you have a problem with it. by the way you write you sound very intelligent ,so why do you have a redneck opinon like this.
@wbooker10 I have a problem with it because I am a black woman. &statistically black women are the least likely to date outside their race. Black men; however, are the most likely to date outside their race. This causes an extreme imbalance. Simply put, there's not enough black men to go around. Other factors such as jail, unavailability, etc. have put a hindrance on creating strong powerful black couples/families. Then we have to deal with white women as well. It's also a matter of loyalty too.
@LesciK12 ..Come on , just as there are black men in jail there are black women in jail, just as there are gay black men there are gay black women, same for every-race. You act like black women don't date out side there race. Come on, i see black women with asian, white, and hispanic man every-day. Also i bet you never go to that video page and express how you don't like, but my father and mother is wrong for being in love because you are lonely. fuck you
@wbooker10 Ur missing the point. Of course there're black gay men as well as black gay women &black men in jail as well as black women. The point is that there is an imbalance. The number of black men in jail far outnumber the amount of black females. Same goes for homosexuality, etc. There's also a lack of loyalty on black men's part. I don't know what you mean by the "video page." &I'm far from lonely. Ur sensitive because of ur parents. I get it. They're not wrong per se. I just don't agree.
@wbooker10 In my opinion, yes. If circumstances were different, maybe I'd have a different answer. But that's just how I feel. Did you ask anyone from your father's side about how they felt towards your mom? I'm curious to know if they had any hard feelings when your father first brought her home to meet them. No disrespect intended, of course. You don't have to ask them.
@LesciK12 if circumstances were different, wow you're acting like there are no 100% black familys out there. The sad thing about you is how much you sound like a racist , but you can't even see it. Also about my father side of my family, i'm not going to asks any of my 2 aunts a bullshit question like that. Because my 2 aunt have came to my house on holidays ever year cook and sing with my mom, so i have no need to asks them your opinion is your opinion, but it is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@wbooker10 Opinions can't be wrong. &I know full well that my view may seem racist. But to be honest there’re few strong families out there w/a solid blk couple. U keep talking abt specifics &u need to understand that the world doesn't work that way. Just because u see it one way does not mean it's like that for the majority. U use ur family like it's the standard &it's wishful thinking. Naiveté on ur part. Singin &cookin does not mean that they didn't have a problem w/ur mom in the beginning.
But the schools r not seperated. Non blacks can attend historicaly black colleges and universities so there is no seperation. Its just a name to identify the school.
We have HBCUs because blacks weren't allowed to attend white colleges . HBCUs still educate the majority of college educated blacks. Do we shut down, trash, or otherwise turn our back on OUR history and institutions because white institutions now admit us? The NAACP has a distinguished history of fighting discrimination. NO organization has done more to eradicate discrimination. If one First examines the history and the context, it is clear such assertions/beliefs are erroneous.
I understand she means well but really? "there was a time when we needed NAACP awards" news flash we still do! did u see the emmys last yr u could count one hand all the blacks/colored ppl there. There is still racism in this world (alot) and ppl just sweep all the dirt they did for 500 yrs under the rug "lets all get along like it never happened like u dont get discriminated against, like blacks r fairly represented in the media" Yes one day we can get to that point but we aren't there yet
@GeminiTeeVee That's really an excellent point, which underscores the fact that the larger society(whites) not only fails to appreciate and value us(blacks) and our contributions, but believes and asserts that they ought be the sole arbiters of who and what is important/significant, despite a centuries old track record teeming with evidence which invalidates this widely--and erroneously-- held notion.

@hegs2 We will never get to that point. Some of us are just more comfortable on a college campus were we are the majority. Ohh and BTW, just because its a black college doesnt mean non-blacks cant attend.
@jpowers55 Yes, we will. We have made it a long way over the last century. In a hundred years, people will be just as upset with the seperate colleges of today, as we are of the ban against interracial marriage 50 years ago.
@yellowbanaana and you're just as entitled and unrealistic as she is. walk a mile in a black person's shoes and you'll understand the fallacy of what she saying.
@theoriginalsafinette I have to say, I don't agree with you either. And I'm a person o f colour for what matters. I think Ellen Pompeo has a (really good) point here, "separation doesn't get us any closer". I grew up just like her daughter with a white mom and a black dad(wasn't always easy).
