It is very irritating that every time, when people comment the contribution of diferent guitarists, they always mean their technical skills, but never their COMPOSITIONS! And exactly this is the "battle-field", where Ritchie can never be beaten (neither in quantity, nor yet a quality) from who-else of todays "guitar-gods", most of which are quite borring composers. Just listen his Rainbow-era songs as "Catch the Rainbow" (live-version), "Stargazer", A Light in the Black", "Tarot Woman" and etc.
That maple body/necked Strat he's using in "You Fool No One" was always my favorite of his. I'm sure it met it's demise bravely. Can't remember if that's the one he took out the tv camera with during the California Jam concert.
Thanks again for posting this great stuff. Properly blown away.
Blackmore certainly was exciting to watch and listen to live, but I think his best solos were recorded in the studio and put in Purple's and Rainbow's songs. Just listen to practicaly any of his recorded work. His phrasing, virtouosity, speed and technique, when taken together (some are faster, some shred better) have never been beat. Combine this with his riff-making ability and he blows everybody away. Who has a better rock catalog of songs? WHO? nobody
we tried some mezcaline when we were back in england it was the most amazing experience in my life that was in 79 in that trip he compose a rare solo i dont remember that well cause the joint was too good man!!! he is the god!!!
I dont mind you can have your own king of guitarist people like Hendrix. Page. Jeff Beck. Van Halen,Uli roff, Malmsteen, Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker & many others but I can say they are king in one, two or three areas or perhaps four to five areas but Ritchie Blackmore is king of guitarist in all areas Hes King of the King!
@666strife Why do you say underrated? What guitarist has more Youtube videos on this site, or more devoted fans? Only the fucking rock critics ignored him cause he was a bastard.
Looking at peoples top guitar rateings on youtube Richie is definitly under rated? do'nt understand that. Not even mentioned on most . How can this be?His playing excites me Its so wild and played with sole and passion.Love Deep Purple and for me you are number one Richie Blackmore .
As a rock music lovers, we are so lucky that Blackmore has produced countless pieces of rock music over the years, so lets enjoy this gifted man's music,,,,
I agree with what you say, but its too bad that Richie has come to hate rock, and hes pretty much shut off to everything accept for the midevil stuff that he plays now, really blows if u ask me
Not necessarily. If you listen to him in the interviews and stuff, he says that he always liked classical more, even back then. Plus he incorporates some rock-like stuff in the new music...it's just completely different from the old stuff.
man the Mistreated live solo from the cali jam is killer!! where is it????
