  • Man! This is awesome!!

  • Did the lawn get done?

  • @curley920 Lawn will get mowed, eventually.

  • Heyy anyone who knows how to remove the engine on a grand am email me plss alozano9811@gmail.com

  • wish i had a neighbor that can swap engines (and more). a 1999 anycar where i live would be all rust, not just on the hood. : (

  • Green antifreeze? has that been converted from Dexcool

  • @homes24 Don't like the Dexcool, it's more expensive and I don't think it works as well. Good ol' antifreeze works for me = D

    VT247

  • @Vacationtime247 Dexcool eats the gaskets anyway..

  • @homes24 Dexcool ruins head gaskets and casues early deaths in engines

  • Green antifreeze? has that been converted from Dexcool?

  • hey Vacationtime, when you said you were going to get a 'connector' to join the fuel lines, what exactly were you referring to? I am taking out my 3.4 right now and I wanted to know if I should go with just some hose and clamps, or maybe you know of something else?????????????????????

Thanks and great video learned a lot .

  • @shawnwhite00 I cut the rubber line for the fuel. Put in a short piece of steel line that was flared out on both ends. Double clamped it at both sides for both the in line and the return line for the fuel. Those quick disconnects suck! There was no way mine was coming loose.

  • how much does the idler control valve cost?

  • @782Matty The idle control valve costs about $20. Typically you can just take them out and clean the carbon off. If you're having idle problems check for vacuum leaks. Spray water on different parts of the engine and vacuum hoses, if it idles down, theres were the problem is.

  • you shoulda put a bigger engine in...

  • @dillonmuhman a GTP L67 motor would have made that Alero one VERY unsuspecting sleeper........

  • I have a 2000 Alero GX (Sports coupe, 2door, and 5-speed manual)

Would I be able to swap a 3.4L into it ? If So, how hard would it be, Im wondering about the Engine Brackets and If i would hook into my tranny ?

Thanks alot, and I like the car :) Looks familuar

  • Awesome Video and a clean job... I'm doing the same tommorow...

  • bra's cause rust and paint fading

  • @greeleykid True, car bras do cause rust and fading. But that's exactly why I put this one on there. It was already rusted and faded. Needed something to cover it up.

  • I have a 00 grand am gt and it blew the lower intake manifold gasket at 149k miles. It was pretty easy to do. Put a fle-pro gasket on it and some silicone on it. Im at 159k and no problems. My question is how long did it take you to swap motors? And would you know how long it would take to do a tranny swap? Starting to slip under hard acceleration only. Nice video btw thanks

  • @dkhill27 Took me just one day to do the engine swap. Had it out, back in and running in less than a day. Wasn't that hard really. Never swapped trannys in a 3.4 liter engine equipped GM. If I were to have to swap tranny's in one, I'd pull the engine and tranny out as one piece. The CV joints (1/2 shafts) would be the hardest part. They always cause me trouble on any car.

    VT247

  • @dkhill27 Thats hard to take just one day to swap!

  • Nice job, $1300-$1400 invested but still some money to be made.

  • I have a 99 Alero w/3400 too. What is the purpose of modding the air intake? And when looking in salvage yards for an engine replacement, how do you know you aren't getting one that's also got a bad intake and/or head gasket? Thirdly, do you have any knowledge about why brake lights won't work even after bulb change, fuse, and brake pedal switch change?

  • @jfletcherwilliams Air intake mod is to allow more unrestricted air to enter. Gives it more HP. Can hear it whistle too. Pretty cool. When looking for engine replacements look at the oil. If the oil is clear and not milky, it's probably good. Better if you can hear it run as well. The intake manifold gasket is what leaks. Replace it before installing a used engine. It's not that hard and cheap insurance. Check for voltage at the brake switch plug in. Should always have 12 volts

    VT247

  • @Vacationtime247

Thank you! If it isn't 12 volts.... then what?

  • @jfletcherwilliams If it's not 12 volts at the brake light switch, follow the wiring diagram back. Or, just wire in a 12 volt power source. Make sure too that you have ground!

  • For anyone who is curious, Fel-Pro offers an updated gasket that is made of metal and will not fail. I'm talking about the lower intake manifold gaskets.

    The part number is MS98003T

  • @riviera97sc For extra insurance, I added a layer of silicone to both sides of the lower intake manifold gasket set. Wanted to make sure it would never develop the leak around the water jackets. : ) No leaks, it's been 6 months and still drives great!

    VT247

  • @Vacationtime247 That would be fine as long as the OE nylon/plastic gasket is being used. I would not recommend silicone on the newer updated metal gasket though.

  • help!, i have a 96 lesabre, w/ the 3800 engine. it leaks antifreeze through the overflow bottle, but not from the main line where the metal cap is. is this normal? i heard yes and i heard no. ????????????????????

  • @MrRichierich1990 If your car is bubbling out violently, like you hear a pshhh with steam coming out or the overflow tank is bouncing and gurgling there is a problem. Two main culprits would be the thermostat stuck closed or the water pump isn't pumping water through the sytem. What does the temp gauge read? If it's reading high, check the pump or thermostat.

    VT247

  • If I were to buy a new engine, could I expect to get new belts too or is it normally just the metal parts?

  • @forestcamper Guess that all depends on where you get the new engine from. You might get everything if you get it from a salvage yard. If you get a new engine from Autozone or otherwise you might just get the block and heads.

    VT247

  • @Vacationtime247 Thanks for responding, I recently bought a lemon and the previous owner is being extremely uncooperative. I'm evaluating my options for damage control.

  • Glad I checked this video out,I was about to take the engine and the trans out together just to change the engine.

  • @GrindTimeAuto No need to take the trans out when doing a 2.8 / 3.1 / 3400 / 3.5 engine replacement. Swapping engines in the Alero really went a lot easier than I thought it would be. Had the engine out and back in, running within a day.

    VT247

  • Great job hope you make good money for it.I know how it is getting burnt out on flipping these cars but what choice is there but to keep going.

  • @Timmaculate83 This will be my wifes car for a while. Think the next one sold will the Suburban. Been living off my paycheck from working as a nurse. But I only work 4 days a week, my choice, 4 days a week is plenty lol!

    VT247

  • @Vacationtime247 Next up will be the front suspension and painting the F-350. It's the truck I've always wanted. Big diesel dually, crew cab, 5 speed. Wish it was a 4X4 but it'll do. : D
