@stina2711 There's a small ring near the front of the lens. You can set an override for for auto focus. When you turn the focus ring, you get the zoomed in picture to help focusing. This comes in handy if you your AF keeps locking on the wrong object.

I regret buying this camera. I bought the evf and the 17mm 2.8. Useless in low light. Slow AF. Looks and feels as cheap. Totally embarrassed to be seen with this thing in public. What the hell was I thinking when I bought it? I wished I had waited and bought the Fuji X100.

@pyerMC i partially agree with your statement in terms of resolution it is everybit as good as my oly 620 and can easily reproduce 16x20 its all in having appropriate lighting and low iso and proper exposure, the only limitation i have found is the af speed and that will get better with firmwares and better lenses.... hope you find the full potential of your camera soon try getting a flash for it

@1Dacruz yeah i still have the camera, im loving it so far, some of the cons are, i can't find lenses for it, and like i said when you zoom in on photoshop you see alot of noise, but photoshop can read its raw files now so thats not as much of an issue anymore, so my only complaint is the amount of lenses you can get for it, so far i havnt found any. when your using the art filters it slows down alot, its the perfict starter camera though, sorry if this is kinda wierd to read lol, im half awake
This camera is such fun to use, that I've not touched my several DSLRs since the day I bought the E-PL1. I've now gone and got the electronic viewfinder for this camera, the VF - 2, which though pricey, is worth every dollar I paid for it.
I think it should be by the end of the month. Are you in the US? It's being offered at $599 with the kit lens. The body looks much nicer and it has a new kit lens with better build quality, faster autofocus, and optimized for video so that it's quiet when filming. It also gets a new art filter called Dramatic Tone which looks pretty cool IMO- like a HDR image. I think the price for it will come down in a couple months. Also, there are three conversion lenses that only work with the new kit lens.
@bogushable i havnt really researched the nikon but as far as it goes for a begginer the olynpus has very good features so as your skills grow you can change more settings or keep it in the iauto mode which basically does all the setting for you

Great review och a really good camera! I have one and I'm very pleased with it; good IQ, snappy performance or at least acceptable (though probably among the slowest in class) but the icing on the cake is that the m4/3 system has some great lenses (lenses are way more important than the actual body)! Sure people keep saying that the NX and the NEX systems will get good lenses in 2011 but the m4/3 already has great lenses and will just get more and more awesome glass!

But a question.... i cant seem to figure out how to "auto focus" while filming in HD, how do it do that? I set the aperture to continuous, but it doesnt seem to focus as "crisp" while filming, as opposed to a standard snapshot.... any help or pointers please?! Thankkss!! :)

I bought this camera last week. I'm not so happy with it. It's too light and plastic feels cheap. I wish the E-P2 had a built-in flash...or better yet, Olympus should have allowed user to daisy chain the accessories so the VF-2, stereo microphone and flash or LED light could all be used in tandem; maybe they could have designed a cool compact bracket with 2 hot shoe mounts for accessories. Olympus offered accessory mount brackets for the Pen cameras from the 1960's and 1970's.
This is the best camera review I've seen. I particularly like how you include the photos you've shot. I wanted to see how the pictures of the cars came out, though, to see if they were quite blurry or just a little blurry.

Hello, this is kind of a dumb question but I am a highschool student w/ no experience in photography so bare with me. I am looking at this to be my first real camera. can anybody tell me if its compatible with the olympus vf2 and most importantly what type of lenses I could use with it. @krishnagoneinsane I think this would be a great camera for you. It has pretty much all the advanced features of the DSLR but it's simpler to use and small so you could take it anywhere. The E-PL1 is compatible with the VF2, and you can use any Micro Four Thirds lens with it. You can even use regular Four Thirds lenses using the MA1 or MMF-1 adapter. Actually, you can use any brand lenses with the Pens as long as you have the right adapter. They'll be manual focus though, of course.
Im planning on buying it soon but can you also add regulair filters on it. Like a starfilter that you also have for a DSLR?
I need to know this before buying an adaptor ring for it. Since I own A canon EOS 450D and I really want a PEN with it since it's smaller and better to take with me on trips.
do you think i could use tis for shooting snowboard videos i really want toget creative in my movies like with the apeture and shutter and manual focus....but is the af good enough for moving subjects?

I wish the E-P2 had a built-in flash...or better yet, Olympus should have allowed user to daisy chain the accessories so the VF-2, stereo microphone and flash or LED light could all be used in tandem; maybe they could have designed a cool compact bracket with 2 hot shoe mounts for accessories. Olympus offered accessory mount brackets for the Pen cameras from the 1960's and 1970's.

This is the best camera review I've seen. I particularly like how you include the photos you've shot. I wanted to see how the pictures of the cars came out, though, to see if they were quite blurry or just a little blurry.

I went to Fortress here in HK and found that the dual zoom kit E-pl1 is not imported here. That has to be a WTF as HK is supposed to be a shoppers paradise.

i was looking around allot for a review of this camera and some samples and opinions of how the 1st time user would like it . I am debating between the Samsung NX10, E-PL1 and G10.

Hello, this is kind of a dumb question but I am a highschool student w/ no experience in photography so bare with me. I am looking at this to be my first real camera. can anybody tell me if its compatible with the olympus vf2 and most importantly what type of lenses I could use with it. Still unclear about the different lens size/types thing. could anybody point me in the right direction as to where to read up on them? Thanks

@krishnagoneinsane Not familiar with the olympus vf2, but there are adapters available for the PEN cameras that allow use of regular 4:3 optics.

@krishnagoneinsane I think this would be a great camera for you. It has pretty much all the advanced features of the DSLR but it's simpler to use and small so you could take it anywhere. The E-PL1 is compatible with the VF2, and you can use any Micro Four Thirds lens with it. You can even use regular Four Thirds lenses using the MA1 or MMF-1 adapter. Actually, you can use any brand lenses with the Pens as long as you have the right adapter. They'll be manual focus though, of course.

I have a little question about the PEN.
Im planning on buying it soon but can you also add regulair filters on it. Like a starfilter that you also have for a DSLR?
I need to know this before buying an adaptor ring for it. Since I own A canon EOS 450D and I really want a PEN with it since it's smaller and better to take with me on trips.

I just came back from Hong Kong. It is an interesting place and would be cool to live there for a bit.
Although I dont know if you are familiar with the city. But be careful when shopping for electronics especialy cameras. Some stores will try hard to fool you and sell a 4X mark up. I noticed this at stores in Tsim Sha Tsui, particularly stores with no price tags on their items.
