All I can say is find every opening and fill out every application you see. In the end, someone will call. It took my mother a month straight from searching everyday to find a RN nursing job here in Mississippi.

As you said, it will be years down the line before the economy is doing better. This economic bump has forever changed the world and you have to adapt. A hundred years ago if you wanted to make buggy whips that was OK and now it is a terrible idea. Do you want a degree in philosophy and be homeless or do you want a degree in medicine with a house? It doesnt have to be medicine, but something that will give you a useful marketable skill. Being homeless and hungry is not a good idea.

Could not agree more. I have a BA and a Master's and not ONCE has anyone said "Awesome! come work for us, you must be smart." They want to see a list of how long I've worked, for whom, what skills I have, etc. and then they STILL tell me I was not the most qualified candidate (WHO THE HECK IS!?) and hire someone else. It's a Catch 22: you can't get hired without experience, but you can't get experience without a job. Solution: work for your family's business while you're still in school!
