I agree Ludmil Angelov and Daniel del Pino's recording is better, but it's interesting to hear it played slower. A bit easier to appreciate Kapustin's dense ornamentation and rhythm.
I just purchased the Angelov and del Pino recording. It is wonderful. I myself enjoy either a virtuoso performance like theirs or one like this, a bit slower, where you can really hear the interplay , really feel the piece being made.
Kapustin just blows me away with his talent and his prolific output.
There is another recording of this work with Ludmil Angelov and Daniel del Pino playing, and it puts this recording to shame in every way possible. I have yet to hear the new Kawakami recording, though.
For those who are looking for it, it's at watch?v=ko_WZpU_59I . This (Matsumoto's) performance has been uploaded with video at watch?v=aekikXOxkC0 as well, by the way :) And here's another one by William Villaverde and Fabiana Claure: watch?v=nyEuOgu1F8g
Thanks! At a slower speed it's easier to notice the interplay of the two parts, which I guess at a normal speed would be a pleasure mainly intended for the performers rather than the listeners. Seems like it would be quite a pleasure, at that. Perhaps I shall purchase the piece - Prhythm Edition is selling it for a quite reasonable ~US$18.
By the way, Kawakami has just released a CD with a recording of this piece on it, performed by him and his wife. Amazon JP has it (out of stock though).
Thanks for the post of this, its nice to hear the piece in its entirety. I think I'll purchase it so my professor and I can play it in a recital next year.

@flamingspinach Sorry, correction - Kawakami Masahiro plays both primo and secondo (overdubbed) on the new CD.

@flamingspinach Actually, I think he plays it with his wife on that CD, not overdubbed. Either way, it has to be better than this terrible recording!

@jre58591 see nkwebmaster's reply on the other recording of this piece on youtube :)

@flamingspinach Oh, I see. Either way, it sounds better than this one, I'm sure!
