@JoshskaterXD Well you see this video was made in 2010. Windows 7 service pack 1 came out some time ago and probably updated the .dll version. So really I'm not sure if it works anymore but if it doesn't then that is the reason.

I wish I had good things to say about Windows Media Player like I do about Windows 7 but I don't. No matter what version you use, Windows Media Player continues to disappoint. I have long since abandoned the heinous program for the more streamlined yet powerful VLC Media Player.

Why do I hate it so much? One word: "wmpshare.exe". If you don't know what I mean, believe me...keep using Windows Media Player and you will eventually.

@txmoney I don't see any wmpshare.exe when I run Windows Media Player. What is that supposed to be? Some kind of network sharing? Anyway WMP sole purpose is for music and VLC sole purpose is for videos, for me that is.

hey i did all but it shows an error that, the file wmploc.dll has a version number of 12,0,7600,16415 where 12,0,7600,16667 was expected.

Dunno, can't help fix an error I never ran into. Why is your wmp 12 version different? I haven't done this in a while so i'm not quite sure if it still works

You need to search for Res Hacker in google and download the application. It's free so don't worry about that.

After that, it's a case of running it, going to file and open then searching for wmploc.dll in system32 and changing the version to what it needs to be.

Good vid! It's great how simple you seem to make things, i hit an issue but i think its cos my comp hasn't connected to the internet yet, the new .dll files are a different (probably newer) product number to the ones that came with my windows 7 and so windows thinks they're wrong.. Anyway new LAN card tomorrow so shouldn't be an issue for long :)

if you use 64 bit then there will be one in system32 and another in syswow64. Yes you have to replace both. If there is two of them in system32 alone then that can't be possible because you can only have one file of the same name in a folder. So practically there's a file called wmploc.DLL and another called wmploc.DLL.mui. You need to replace wmploc.DLL and not wmploc.DLL.mui. Those are the only two possible situations I can get from your question.

Well the icon is different to the original icon of the program. The program is called everything, it allows for instant searching of your computer. So you can type and your searches should appear in a second or a couple seconds;
