@Reefari ehh ur right well i kinda put my comment as a smart ass kinda way couldve worded it better but i like to just ice my fish because theyre cold blooded. brain spiking definitely works but i think its just easier to rip the hook out toss em in the cooler and keep on fishing.

@Reefari I've heard icing anesthetizes fish but I'm sure spiking is quicker. It'd be cool to know where to spike other species; I fish on a kayak so even relatively small things like snook and flathead can cause problems when they struggle.

Most fishes brain is located midway between the eyes, Get a good strong knife with a short blade, and make a big cut in the middle of the head, and you're sure to find the brain, this will kill all fish instantaneous, give it a go and you soon notice when you find the brain, the fish will stop moving straight away,

That does work, bit brutal, Brain spike kills instantly, but you also bleed your fish at the same time, which is well worth doing,

cant stand it.. going to do some kayak fishing but not keen on killing the fish. might just practice catch and release. i do love to eat fish, but rather buy from the shop already filleted

We also like to release fish, but doesn't hurt to take some for a feed, but at least if you catch and keep your own fish, it's as fresh as possible, and well looked after. Beats Frozen fish from who knows where, Fresh is best, and if killed quickly and iced down ensures the best eating qualities remain, I personally never buy fish, and prefer what I catch, Hard to beat,

@MrSnubzy i had the same issue. but then i saw this bbc documentary on how much suffering commercially caught fishes are put through. personally, this is way better. at least u know the fish u caught for food did not suffer as much.

@MrSnubzy I know what you mean, I'm not too keen on killing/hurting the fish, catch and release is the best. Although if you do need to keep one it's best to know how to kill it quickly and painlessly I guess.

Catfish can be hard to kill, It pays to respect the fish, and the knife to the head, brain kills the fish instantly. Make sure it is a strong knife/blade as catfish do have hard skulls,

Hello Greg,another painless way is to pour rum over there gills numbs and kills them at the same time I feel bad for fish when ppl just let them die because of no water ;/ whatever hope tip helps

I find it a bit better than beating them with a mackerel donga, Brings them under control real quick, just make sure you get a good hold and then a good sharp strong knife to the brain, kills them real quick,

Try it for your eating fish as well, but still bleed them as well to remove blood, and makes for a better eating fish,
