Well it's really funny, your act is very good :D But you do realise, that there already is one "I'm on a blimp" parody from LittleKuriboh that was created earlier?
@ChrisLikesAppleJuice Thanks. If you see previous comments this question has been answered. The videos are very different, even if the names are the same. We did a steampunk video with live actors, they did a Yu-Gi-Oh video with clips from the TV show. We wrote this steampunk spoof before LittleKuriboh did their video, but couldn't get it produced before theirs (lots of video to shoot, finding people for the music, etc.).
Loved it, although I was a little put off by only seeing one actual blimp (at 2:29). All the other airships were semi-rigid or rigid dirigibles/Zepplins.
@tanikwish It was a borrowed top hat and we didn't cut holes in it so I could see. So... um... (nervous laugh) I kinda didn't realize how close I was to the lights. As soon as I ran into it, I stuck my arms out to catch it if it fell, and the whole time I was waiting for the light to land on me and catch fire (lol). But that was such a fun shoot. I was happy I made it to the blooper reel and was in it as much as I was. Thanks DCTV for letting me be a part of this fun video!
@52weekcouchsurf - HAHAH nice! I was just watching this again the other night and died laughing yet again. That was too funny, man. Thanks for replying with the inside story. Very glad you didn't catch fire. :)
As I said to the friend that posted the link to this on Facebook: "OH MY GOD. THIS IS THE MOST GREATEST THING ON THE INTERNET EVAR!" Well done! Jolly good job! I had to listen to it twice, cuz the first time, I was laughing so hard I couldn't hear the words. Kudos!
noun – a recording of a song by a singer, instrumentalist, or group other than the original performer or composer
Parody
noun – a burlesque imitation of a musical composition.
verb – to imitate (a composition, author, etc.) for purposes of ridicule or satire.
The parody exists in the humorous changes. It's not the same song so it's not a cover. Using autotune to make it sound closer to the original wouldn't make it a cover. You don't know how to use those words.
You said "A parody isn't supposed to sound exactly like the original. That's why it's called a "parody" and not a "cover"".
That's not true, SInce a parody is a humorous imitation of a song, it would stand to reason that it must sound like the song it's imitating.
In contrast a cover won't always sound like the original. A cover can be performed on different instruments and thus sound completely different from the original song.
@DragonConTV No, you're just using a bad plug-in. Or a free one of some sort. It definitely needed to get beefed up in there. This was a ok attempt. But I think this songs a few revisions away from being really good. Did you guys have to rush this out the door for dragon con?
@MoltenPlastic It's not a genre, it's a sub-culture. And it's actually a LOT more mainstream than you'd think. There are steampunks all over the place that have never heard of "cosplay" or "DragonCon" or any other number of "nerdy" things. I have several friends that were "steampunk" before it was even thought of to be a sub-culture. And way before it was so trendy. Though it has definitely found a very comfortable and flourishing home with the nerds. :)
Awesome, I just laughed my arse off! I've had the pleasure of getting to play some shows with the Extraordinary Contraptions, really good people, great music, lot's of fun and this video just made my day.
I saw them perform this live at the DragonCon Time Traveler's Ball on Sunday night. They kicked some serious ass. Pardon me while I go to their website to order their albums...
@rbleader Well, I don't think you have to swear to be funny. But we did make it dirty for Victorian ears.
The words "dollymop," "poppycock" and "balderdash" would have been completely unacceptable in the 1800's ... and the Brits still consider "bloody" to be reserved for impolite conversation.
Sorry you didn't like it, but we can't make everyone happy. There's over an hour of new material for DCTV 2010, so I hope something in there does it for you.
@DragonConTV Nah, it was okay, it's just that this one didn't had that impact, unlike the first one. Perhaps it's because I'm trying to compare it to the original video. Anyway, you guys did a good job, it's just that this one had something to be compared against (i.e., the original video).
I prefer zeppelins.

Did they actually use autotune at any point in this? It's not like it would have been hard... smh

@CL0N3PA7R0L Yeah, but we're autotuning someone who can actually sing, so it's not as noticeable :)

@DragonConTV I think you should have gone a bit heavier with it and made it sound more like the original. Just my opinion though.

As its a genre so obscure that the mainstream doesn't even know of its existence, I reckon the anwer is no.
