  • Hi Great video.

    One question:

Why not to cut the useless end after the ring cut and have a smaler neat wistle, or there is a reason for it?

  • Looks like Frodo,

Sounds like Barry out of Beaver Falls :)

  • Excuse me mr. frodo shouldnt you be missing a finger. Can you introduce me to schmeagle please.

  • Are you frodo. frodo is ,agical

  • loving the fatc that he uses a opinel knife best knife money can buy.

  • By the way, LOVE the derby! I used to wear one for fun. Happy Whittlin'!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! I've been whittling since 1994 & have wanted to learn this, but could never find good instructions for making a REAL whittled tree limb whistle. The ones i found had you drilling a hole, which ruins the "Whittled" feel of it. Thanks again!

  • generally you use the other side of the hammer...

  • super vid,we went into the woods today and made these successfully, thanks for the vid.

  • Great vid ! Very helpfull ! However on a point of safety, you should NEVER use a knife cutting towards your body. Cut away from your fingers, as you stated, but also cut away from your body

  • My dad used to do this for all us kids, and now that I'm a dad, i wanted to see it again. Thanks for this ...nice to have a refresher video. Hopefully my kids will get a kick out of this like we did as kids. He used to use Poplar which is common here in Canada.

  • GREAT! Big thx!

  • I'm going to make a carving knife handle for my opinel kinfe ,because it dosen't like to stay open. and it is so so very sharp.

I think that will make it even better and my friends won't always be asking to have it for thier letter opener.

To me it is something special from my father in law. and he is gone home to the Lord. I knwo he would be happy that istill have and use it.

  • Good teaching , HEY I have exactly the same knife as you were using. I got it from my father in law and it says OPINEL made in france on the side.

I have had it about 25 years. and I live in southern Maine U.S.A. it is the sharpest knife i have ever been given. The other side says RP associates, inc. SO i assume he got it from some company while he traveled Europe. He had a lot to do with Designing turnpike systems and road ways .

  • The was great.

  • Great vid ! I love Opinel knives, like the one you are using. Thanks for posting fun, simple project !
