Carmen was very ill and in distress (december 1952). It´s hard to understand why she accepted to make this film in such conditions. Years of anfetamine and seconal abuse had taken their toll... Alcohol was involved too! Her husband had taken control of her life and carreer with bad consequences. In 1953 she went to an European tornee to promote this movie that proved to be too much for her. She died a few time after. Lewis is absolutely nasty! Martin was sexy, with a nice baritone voice.
I really like the pair but s no wonder why they split up at some point. DM made him like a fool in every movie they made. Whoever thought that JL wouldn't keep up in a movie alone was obviously mistaken.
What a shame they don't make movies like that anymore... A great actor and a good plot were the only things needed back then...
@sanoiro Actually JL understood people wanted to see JL in a sympathetic abet sometimes the foolish role. It was DM who was more upset with the roles they played as DM often played a heel or a cad which he objected to more than once. Too bad Wallis (M and L's producer) very rarely let the guys go beyond a formulistic plot and only separately could either do what they were best at.
I love that it isn't overly choreographed! x__x; Nowadays the dancing scenes in movies are so synchronized they might as well be performed by robots or something. But, this has more character.
oh man. words cant even start to describe how much i love this movie. im only 15, but who the hell cares. this movie is one of my favourites. i first saw it when i was like 4 with my dad. great times. i remember it, like it was yesterday. this is one of my favourite parts. its so fun.
martin and lewis all the way! they're the best paired people EVER!
This actually looks like it came from one of their old shows to me; I'm not sure, however. Dean was used to Jerry improvising and falling all over the place, so Jerry's falling over the bongo strap didn't take him completely by surprise. I must say I preferred Jerry to Dean, no matter how lovely the latter's voice was. Mr. Lewis was a comedic genius when it came to timing, slapstick, and improvisation.
It didn't look rehearsed...kinda reminds me of when michelle fell down in destiny's child performance and kelly just walked over her and they kept on performing....
Ok, Im a HUGE Jerry Lewis fan. Ive seen almost every movie he's ever made...I cannot express how much I know about the man, ok? Im also a very big fan of the Monkees. Once again, I cannot express...
Anyways, Sunday I made a great discovery all by myself! Micky Dolenz' (the lead singer of the monkees) father plays Mr.Quartega in this movie! I couldnt believe it!
But Carmen considered herself Brazilian as she moved to Brazil as a baby. Miranda spent most of her life in Rio de Janeiro, not Marco de Canavezes - Portugal.
Dean did a split . . . wow.

When Jerry falls at 1:22... was that rehearsed?
If it wasn't, which I don't think it is, I love how Dean continues singing and Jerry jumps right up again :)
