I am sorry but that's not al all how a proper L.I. should be prepared. First of all, the sour mix should be the first ingredient (and pls...sour mix not a silly lemon), then in order vodka,rhum,gin and triple sec. After this, U MIX it and just in the end u add a lil bit (not so much) of a coke in order to give the ice tea color. And sorry but...why tequila is even there??? Long Island is the typical cocktail that if badly made (and it's easy to screw it up) it tastes just awful

@borghese84 Why wouldn't tequila be in there? The ingredients in this video is correct according to the National Bartenders Association. You can also choose whether to use lime juice or sour mix, either way it should be 1 1/2 parts of it. I understand different persons got different ways they like to mix drinks, and that's fine.

BTW, I fully support you on the coke thing though. He did indeed use waaay too much coke :)

people talk like its not a lot of alcohol..a 2 count is 1oz of liquor, your body can process roughly 1 oz of alcohol per hour. 4 oz's of alcohol (4 2-counts) is going to get you damn near to the legal BAC limit if you drink it quickly..I have had one while I was completely hammed (so of course I pretty much slammed it) and I think this might have been the reason my night was ended.

p.s. Anyone else think Tanqueray tastes like what you would think a pine needle would taste like?

Depends on your tolerance. I had a strong one on my 21st birthday (mom's a bartender, she and a friend made it for me) and I was tipsy after, but otherwise fine. Found it takes me 2 1/2 before I cross the tipsy into drunk threshold...I'm 5'6" and 117lbs too, so I'm not a big girl! :p

He made two mistakes: he didn't use white rum, that rum was a gold. Not saying you can't, but since there's so many different spirits in there, there's no reason to use anything other than white. Other mistake was that he put way too much coke in there. It's supposed to be a very soft brown color, not a dark brown like here.

When I was just 21 and still fairly new to drinking, I ordered one of these at a sports bar, assuming from the name that it would be a fairly innocuous afternoon cocktail. BIG mistake!

I'm surprised more people who drink these in public don't find themselves in unknown alleyways with their wallets and keys missing the next day. It's a great drink, of course, but it'll take you from Jekyll to Hyde before the glass is empty.

Good recipe. I think the sour mix is quite an important ingredient in this drink though, and 2 shots should be put in rather than just coke. Only a splash of coke on the top to give it a light brown (ice tea) color. Just a recommendation though, it can be done anyway really...
