As far as groove is concerned, Vinnie C. is the guy. He's probably the most in demand drummer around. I used to sit right behind him at the Baked Potato trying to steal everything. I'd also take LA guys like Gary Novak, Joel Taylor (on my video) and yes Dave Weckl. Tony Royster Jr's not too bad either. The first guy I saw to really up the ante was Virgil Donati. I really don't like his groove in a 'live' band situation. But Thomas' command of everything is ridiculous. Absolutely amazing.

I'm not really sure how he rates amongst the drummer intelligentsia community (if such a thing exists)... I mean I know Vinnie Colaiuta's a monster, and widely regarded and acknowledged by drummers, but I really like this guy's playing. He's got a great lesson about double kick dynamics and accents. Very cool.

@sandite26 I don't know what the Camarilla of drumming thinks of him, but he got to audition with Dream Theater, so he can't be bad. I personally love his style, and if you watch his educational material (which you seem to have done) you really get to understand his approach to drumming and how much potential there is in it...
