It should work on any surface not brighter than an LCD screen or a white board in a well lit room. It compares the luminant properties of the pixels and will follow the brightest (to the eye) object.

You probably need custom firmware, as official firmware doesn't run homebrew.

it uses the GoCam/ChottoShot (you can see it in the beginning on the top of my PSP)
