Comparing their versions is pointless. Jennifer's version was recorded in a studio. Whitney's is live. And this isn't even the best version.

That's why you hear more of that vibrating or ringing sound in her voice more than Jen's voice. Jen's voice can get a little bit too screamy in her upper chest belts, but she resonates more from B4 to E5. Both are great singers with powerful voices, but Whitney takes it more when it comes to resonance and color.

@discorules2009 I know you are not talking about Whitney not having power or her voice sucks?! First of all she has much more power in her voice than Jennifer Hudson. I love Jennifer Hudson, but Whitney has far much more resonance and control in higher belts. Resonance is what gives the voice more power. Whitney lacked control in this performance, but she has a better performance of this that she did in San Francisco. Whitney wasn't called "THE VOICE" for nothing.

@discorules2009 Jenn has power, but she has that raw power. Whitney has more power because she resonates more in the mask. That's why you hear more of that vibrating or ringing sound in her voice more than Jen's voice. Jen's voice can get a little bit too screamy in her upper chest belts, but she resonates more from B4 to E5. Both are great singers with powerful voices, but Whitney takes it more when it comes to resonance and color.

@discorules2009 But then Jennifer Holiday - the orignial Dream Girl..can sit them both down...this was way before Whitney had vocal training...very beginning of her career - it's obvious - Jennifer Hudson still needs vocal traiining -she is usually off key..sad for such a power house to be too arrogant to be taught. Dream Girls producers must have coached her all along the way, She was on key.

@tiffanyisqueen Its her voice that is damaged not her talent. She is more experienced and has even more talent now, but her instrument has deteriorated. Also she has expanded and developed her talent in other areas like acting and film production. Let's wait and see how her new movie 'Sparkle' turns out.

i love whitney but she was kinda all over the place with this performance. this showed her immense, raw talent...and how it needed to be fine tuned...but she quickly perfected her craft and became a legend.
