  • I swear i heard the synthesized voice themble a bit as it was counting down the height. I expected it to go "100... 50... 40... 30... u know what guys, fuck you too!!!" :)

That place would be heaven to just walk around if they let you enter the aircraft and just look around. Someone is lucky and actually works there. I wish it were like a god kennel, you could adopt a 747 and take it home before they put it to sleep :( So sad to see beautiful machines taken apart...

  • That was so depressing :( REST THEIR SOULS!!!!

  • Its so sad!!

  • wow i didnt know AA had a300

  • @GOLD1702 - I am in as much danger getting into one of these as getting into a brand new aircraft. All airliners have accidents, and that one was due to Alaska's poor maintenance procedures. These aircraft aren't stupid, and there hasn't been a major accident related to an MD-80 jackscrew failure since. If you've noticed most business jets and regional jets are t-tailed. You don't hear about those falling out of the sky constantly. Look at the facts. These are just as save as any other jet.

  • Man, I wish I had the money for a 747!

  • if im correct there not all scrap some are stored there. so not all hope is lost :D

  • THEY ARE JUST ALUMINUM TUBES WITH WINDOWS THAT FLY!!! THE ONLY THING THAT MAKE THEM LOOK ALIVE IZ THE DESIGN OF THEIR COCKPIT WINDOWSSS!!! >:o >:( :/

  • every thing has to have a end but some of these airplanes will be melted down and turned into new fusalages

  • Sad :(

  • I would want to buy the Douglas 8 if i have the money

  • you have surved well md-80

  • It is sorry to leave so fine aircraft to die slowly.

I would buy one of those smaller flight plans. Is it possible to do it?

  • @zarabud Yup, all the aircraft you see in the yards are for sale, now if it's still got any life on it's frame depends on weather it's worth the money. They can restore almost any of them in the matter of a week or so but it isn't cheap to do.

  • Its upsetting.

  • This is the sad part about airplanes

  • Sad!

  • That's pretty awesome!

  • Sad video!

  • me and my dad bought a b17 and a f14 from a place like this

  • I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT THERE A #1 ON MY LIST

  • note the old and new ups tails in 1:01

  • RIP big birds!

  • i dont know why but when it was taxiing through the grave yard i felt kinda sad

  • planes have souls.

  • alot of dc9s

  • Tks "Mad Dog"!!! We'll miss you!

  • an end of a great legacy

  • this is really sad these are all so beautiful :-(

  • Sp awesome to see after all the thousands of flight hours to be taken here. To think of all the passengers that have been on there, going to happy places or sad places. When I was 11, I wouls hang out at irports and watch passengers and planes. Use to go to all airlines counters and collect ticket jackets and I would walk around fantasizing I was going to fly someplace. The good ole days. National Airport in the 70's rocked!!!

  • all of the classics gone.

  • sad :(

  • I'm crying... God Bless them...

  • @grotter50 yes my comrade, because and the aircrafts have souls inside them...a soul that always watches the sky trying to remind them the good days above clouds...

  • what is name of the music?

  • I did some researching and found something very interesting about this place. One of the UPS 747s stored here at Roswell was the actual 747 aircraft used in the flying sequences in the movie "Airport 1975". Originally delivered to American Airlines in 1971 marked N9675. The same aircraft later went to UPS and became "675UP" As of Nov. 2011, I find that the aircraft has been scrapped.

  • poor plane....so sad......

  • SO SAD TO SEE ALL THESE GREAT JETS PUT TO REST :(

  • its still flyable. Are they sent here because they are no longer airworthy for transport planes but could still be flown.

  • @210482fmj

American is mothballing them because they use too much fuel and can't be re-engined.

  • What a sad place...RIP AA MD-80.

  • @jimmyp42002 Idea is not be in an incident in the 1st place ;)

  • @HawaiiJuniorCycling the only guarantee in life is that someday, dead will come.

  • @jimmyp42002 death*, man I fail at spelling.

  • It must be like losing an old friend.

  • I would love to make a house out of one

  • @peterDiglin I'd like to do a bed and breakfast at a smaller airport with one and live in it as the breakfast cook to support my own flying habit.

  • Could you buy one of these planes?

  • Why retire some passenger jets? ALOT of them could still be being used

  • @64MojoMan yes and no. An aircraft comes with an expiration date when they are delivered. Usual lifespan for commercial service is 20-25 years and a certain number of flight cycles on the air frame. When they reach a certain number of cycles the aircraft either can be rebuilt or scrapped. Most cargo carriers will buy older AC because they are cheap and refitting them is easy. However as the aircraft age, the supply of spare parts dwindle causing some issues for refits and general maintenance.

  • very sad - what is the music by the way?

  • They look like a pile of junk to me, though the next generation will gaze at this clip in awe, and wonder why none of this 'treasure' wasn't saved, and comment on what a 'lost opportunity' this was!

  • I've flown on the MD-80 a few times. Classic airliner, along with the DC-9 and Boeing 747-200!

  • As a pilot, I can appreciate the beauty of these old planes. They gave years and thousands of flight hours. But, all things come to an end and these have given all they could. The airframes have a limit to flight hours as does the pressure vessel. All equipment that can be is salvaged and the rest is a shell cut up for further use.

  • Can anyone just walk in and buy 1 of these old planes and re-do them?

  • @MrCriticOfAll Sure they can restore any of them on site, they have hangers just for that but they still cost several thousands of dollars, eat gas, and or just don't have a lot of time left on there frames to be safe. Some do though re enter service.

  • @winningfreak1 Thats incredible it would be so cool to get 1 now all's i got to do is win the lottery and learn to fly.Thanx for the info mate .

  • this should be illegal

  • I ask you not to look with your eyes but with your heart. These wonderful

birds have flown us places so quickly and what we do. We throw them. I love

planes espically airliners and when I saw these planes being tourted this brought

tears to my eyes. Farewell Airplanes. And please give a thumps up to this comment if you love airplanes.

  • @Booklover786 i love airplines to but not that much only if it has Co on the side of it )-; i hate the new united

  • im so depressed to see those pictures. especially the UPS DC8's knowing that they were all perfectly fine when they were dumped

  • It is ashame. I am a railfan. We may have our strong feelings against y'all, but I feel y'all pain seeing these. It is called a rairoad scrap yard. As fans of transportation, we all want all the planes, trains, buses, ships, cars, and all the others to be preserved, but we have to face the loss of these great beasts, moving passengers, or people. And, once again, I feel y'all pain

  • Wrong... Long LIVE the Queen!

  • Most of these airplanes are in storage awaiting their next assignment. If the have caps on the engines and silver tape on openings they are being stored.

Many airlines have parked the 4 engine and 3 engine planes becuase they use more fuel than a 2 engine plane.

  • @mmarovitch The AA MD80's and A300's are all waiting for a new owner or scrap, note that some of the MD's have their engines and tails removed. The UPS and Fedex DC-8's, 707's and 727's have all passed the times up limit and are awaiting a new owner (foreign by now) or scrap. The only aircraft I can see right off that are just in storage are some of the later model 767's and 747's and some other long range expensive aircraft.

  • Most of these airplanes are in storage awaiting their next assignment. If the have caps on the engines and silver tape on openings they are being stored.

  • i live right down the street from Jammin Java(where song was played)! little fun fact....very sad video though

  • Do airlines retire planes after their useful life stated by the manufacturer or simply to upgrade their fleet?

  • @7477238 both. sometimes aircraft has reached its limit, and has to be retired. Sometimes they "recycle" these planes. Some aircraft is sent there because they are not useful, but they can fly again if needed.

  • is the Gimli Glider out there too?

  • look at all those poor United 737's raplaced with RJ's :(

  • I started crying at 2:58.

  • This is sad when you took the picks of the Americans A300 it looked like it was in service at a Airport part 3:19

  • You Got a radiator for a 1970 707?

  • nice music

  • Seeing all of the "dead" airplanes as I'm taxiing in would make me want to turn around and taxi back to the active and say, C-ya, me and my Maddog are out of here!

  • It's interesting to see that most aircraft there never bothered to retract the flaps...

  • @HSTcallum note the rudders are also over, the electronics and hydraulics have been completely powered down, having the flaps down will put less stress on them as well.

  • All the classic aircraft getting replaced by what? just more 737s of course. DOES THE WORLD NEED THAT MANY 737s?!

  • @TrijetDC10 sad thing is, the future MD80 retirements will have A320 replacements :(

  • @jimmyp42002 yeah i know American have ordered 737-800 and MAXs and A319s and A321neo so, bye bye 757s for internationals and ALL maddogs!

  • @jimmyp42002 It's worse than sad. We all differ in our likes and dislikes and the thought of Airbus replacing anything makes me want to puke. And you're right, my favorite commercial aircraft of all time, the B-757, will have int'l routes taken out of the system. Too bad.

  • @TheTemest then u like the 767 too :)) they twin jets :D and i totally agree with u buddy :) its so wrong to retire the 757 if the 767 is in service the 757 should b too... :(

  • Good choice of music - don't think I've heard this version before.

And I, like some of you, want one to take home with me!!! I love planes - always did.

  • Wow, sad to see so many a/c just wasting away. Mind you, Looks like a uber playground to me. I need to make a point of visiting that graveyard....

  • Poor Babies... Hearttouching

  • I can kind of understand airlines retiring the old 747's, DC8's and 727's. But come on, A300's and 767's. They're still going strong mostly all over the world. I'd quite happily have an A300 in my back garden anyday, should it be big enough. Wonder if you can just go up and buy one and take it home?

  • so glad they dont do this to concorde

  • I want them!

  • She a small tear at 4:15 because of the old Air Canada 767's. Such great planes.

  • perfectly understand the feelings this video generates, should have seen and heard me when 4 the 1st i saw a cash 4 clunkers video, but on the other hand there's nothin eternal, not even us...

  • Has anybody Heard Of Refurbishment??? DF Refurbish These Planes they are all a beauty to fly

    !!!

  • if you wanted to could someone go buy one of these planes from here?

  • Good boy...

  • So sad, it hurts to see an MD-80 go to the graveyard. Knowing the biggest and greatest legend(IMO)has to sit in a desert collecting dust.

  • Guitar solo sounds like "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd...

  • @fsimmer1123 ..agreed

  • they had so much to live for.:(

    NNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • I don't blame them for putting the UPS planes in there...Tom Hanks was stranded on an island with just a volleyball due to one.

  • @acupojojo8 It was a Fed-Ex plane that crashed in the movie, not UPS

  • Cant you use these planes for spare parts ?

  • :'-(

  • @JETT721 come on, get real, these planes have flown for hundreds if not thousands of hours, theyve reched the end of there servicable life, why spend £100,000 on a plane every service or inspection when you can buy a new one for £90,000?

There not going to waste, there recycled or broken for parts for other aircraft to keep flying.

  • @mitsucanter247365 true true, it's just a little sad to see these beautiful planes go. I would much rather have a new 777LR anyways. lol

  • @JETT721 I understand, they have carried hundreds of people safely across the world and now they lie empty defying the purpose that they were intended for.

I felt gutted when my truck got hit and lay in the yard for 6 months slowly being broken for spares, but she filled her purpose and led a good working life.

  • soft landing

  • Nice vid + the music was cool !

  • this video makes me cry sometimes ;(

  • How much would a commercial airliner cost me if I wanted the shell???? (Wings and fuselage)

  • @alexancia5279 You could probably get an old 737 shell for a few thousand...

  • @winningfreak1 Wow, well I want one to turn into a house and make it livable inside.

  • Those UPS planes still look very newish.

  • Great video .... but it is too sad !!!!! these planes do not deserve this !!

  • @maximomereles well id rather it have a proper barial and not me

  • NOOOOOOOOOO

  • the Md80 went to plane heaven

  • so sad...

  • I know this sounds stupid, but this video made me cry

  • Wow, this really hit me! Were do i donate! I want one of those Dc-8's!

  • Nothing quite like a Super 80.

  • It must be an emotional moment for any pilot to fly his aircraft into this field, especialy if he has a long association with that aircraft, i bet you can see evidence of these old & (not so old) birds weeping tears in the form of hydraulic fluid, and their last drops of fuel onto the tarmac..

  • @combustercan Almost like when a cowboy would have to shoot his horse.

  • @pikapoketpu Yes i bet it is, like losing an old friend, very sad :(

  • New Mexico is a creepy ass place

  • This place should at least become a classic airliner museum. After all, without these classics, we wouldn't have our B744s or A380s, or even the B737NGs. The souls of these planes shall fly into the next century of flight and beyond. Especially the S80 "Sadie" (MadDog), I'd fly in one all the time if I could!

  • A lot more AA MD-80s will soon be joining these once their new A320s and B737s start pouring in. AA may have used their MD-80s so much by then that they're completely worn-out and can't be sold to other airlines.

  • if these planes could talk i wonder what stories they would tell

  • I feel sorry for the aircraft... anyone who scraps those planes, deserves to go to hell... Wait, are you kidding, even A300-600s are at the graveyard?! That's so stupid, these A300s and MD-80s (as well as 727s, 737 etc.) deserve to fly, at least be sold to another airline, not awaiting their worst fate!

  • @fs10inator The airframe minus its electronics and other systems is cheap - it's not worth the cost of maintenance and fuel to fly them. Things wear out!

  • i wish i could have them id give them a good home.

so sad to see the greatest creations of mankind sitting in the hot New Mexico sun slowly rotting away :(

  • look ppl, real airplanes for real pilots .... 727 - DC-9/MD80 - 747-200 - DC-10 :(

  • Whats the purpose of covering the engines?

  • can i have one

  • in my country we have bought 2 md 82 from american airlines

  • @Sandiforty im sure that here at Vnzla many airlines will buy maddogs too :-)

  • don't see a 757 but still sad

  • This is not funny!

    RIP

  • RIP

  • its like an old car after awhile its to costly to fix better off investing in something more new economical and practical

  • If you love aircraft then, this is a very sad video. Billions wasted, what's the deal here? Are they insurance write off's at end of life service? Do any of these aircraft ever get back into service? Seems such a waste to me.

  • give them to me

  • so sad

  • rip

  • A lot of these old birds are 20+ years old, and can't be in continued service due to a little thing called "metal fatigue". Those planes are stripped down for parts. But most operators, to my understanding, retire them when they cease being economical to operate (like an old car, as they age, the repair bills start to mount), and often times a carrier like DHL or Fed Ex will buy them up and operate them for a few years before they are at the point of being dangerous or cost prohibitive to fly.

  • im not sure whether to like or dislike the video

  • Requiem for an old friend. Paid off many a loan with these MD-80s.

  • Isn't there ANY aircraft flying museums that could preserve a 707,727, 747, DC8, DC9, DC10, even 747's?? Even if they're static, at least they would still exist for future generations to marvel & wonder in amazement. If all remaining Concordes are preserved except for 2 ( one which crashed in France & another was scrapped ) , surely it's not too much to ask! There's a museum in Australia in the state of Queensland, where at the town of Longreach, a Qantas 707 & 747 are kept in flying condition.

  • @gregbassace1 i agree

  • this is really interesting. I did not know there was a mass storage area/scrapping facility for planes like this. Can you tell me what music you used in the video?

  • That is a plane's worst place to be.

  • This is sad.

  • LEAVE THE OLD AIRPLANES MY GOD!

  • honestly. yeah yeah the old ones dont make as much money. But damn those old ladies are classic! RIP DC-10, MD80, DC-9, 727, 737-200, 767, 757, DC-8, 747-1,2,3,400s. Even 777s and newer planes. rip

  • I would like to buy one of those 747s, i would buy a big field and plonk the 747 on it, and live in it as a home.

  • omg. look at all the planes we could be using

  • GIVE THEM TO ME!!!! :(

  • Comment removed

  • This is so sad! There are so many beautiful planes there! I honestly got sad watching this video! But how cool would n´t it be to go to an aircraft graveyard? I could live there!

  • This video is like a pilot's version of one of those late-night charity TV commercials with the sad music and images of starving children and abused animals. So sad. "For just 25 cents a day, you can help out a needy Maddog or DC-8. Call now; don't let another Boeing or Douglas go to the graveyard."

  • @jewtewb So true, where can i send my donation, & will my Maddog or 737/200 write back to me.

  • @jewtewb couldn't have said it better myself!

  • Some of these planes i'd take and repaint them and start my own airline company -.-
