Youngstown Thermal, the local District Heating and Cooling Company is nice enough to provide the steam. !50 psig saturated steam and of exceptional quality.
WOW it does sound like a riverboat whistle I was just in New orleans on that riverboat that set of whistles they have on there is awsome but nothing beats the sound of a good steam locomotive whistle
@gaycowboy31 Bet you'd agree that it would be awesome if you put this on a Ford F250, eh? You'd be driving along and pull the the lever and people would be like 'Oh shit, lets get out of the way!!!!'
@Fireheart528 actully I own 2 steam whistles both 5 chime one off th CB&Q and the other off the NPRy and hell yah that would be cool I drive an F350 6 inch lift I am building a mount for a Nathan P5 but I did consider a line to mount my whistle once on a while on there but they sound like hell on compressed air but i may run a line up there just for the hell of it to hear it but its too risky driveing on the road with and it possibly being stolen both whistles are the real deal and old
@gaycowboy31 Is it possible to replicate the exact same tone using compressed air instead of steam? Thats what i'd do--seeing people's reactions would be so worth it!
@Fireheart528 No. The moisture in the steam makes the whistle sound a lot more clearer and in tune. Try that on compressed air and it won't sound right. Moisture is the key when it comes to steam whistles.
Ha, I was just in New Orleans a few weeks ago, and also took a trip on the Natchez. The whistle on the Natchez is a three-chime Lunkenheimer, though this whistle bears more resemblance to the (currently out of service) Delta Queen's whistle.
hmm thats what I figured it was a 3 chime Lunkenhimer thanks it sure sounds good when they blow all three of the whistles together..I have never heard the Delta Queen very interesting
