@almankotb This is a good base tablet. No Android Market by default, but apparently it's pretty easy to "side load" the market onto it. Because of this, I bought two, one for each of my kids (6 and 8 years old). They will mostly use it for games (from Android Market) and Netflix.

Regarding the "in store" features of the nook... Basically when you go to a Barnes and Noble store with a nook, it automatically connects to the wifi and you can read any ebooks in store for free for up to an hour every day... Plus a nook basically gets you a free Barnes and Noble membership which gets you discounts on in store purchases including at the cafe, so you can go during a lunch hour for example and read any ebook on your nook for free in store, and the next day the nook remembers whe

What's the big deal with the "amazon ecosystem" anyway? I don't want to lock myself into getting all my content from one vendor... I have never and will never get my music from amazon... I own an iPhone which is my music player... I only load CDs into iTunes or buy from iTunes... I watch movies on Netflix, I like it better than amazon streaming... The selection, interface with the queue, reviews, etc... And now I get my magazines, news, and books from Barnes and Noble on the nook...

Although I have an amazon prime membership and shop there, I also have Netflix because I like getting DVDs and having the option to get any movie I want to watch... Plus even for streaming Netflix is way better IMHO, it has more selection... I've had both for years, and I've only watched amazon prime stuff maybe twice, most of the movies I've watched are on Netflix... While I like amazon, I don't want *everything* I own to have to be from amazon... I like the ability to choose my content source

Here is the reason I prefer the nook over kindle: aside from being a better piece of hardware, I value in store bricks and mortar experience... I like being able to browse a physical bookstore and with the nook tablet, you basically get a free Barnes and noble membership, which gets you discounts on in store items like at the cafe, and it let's you read any book for free for an hour in store, and you can have free in store tech support for the device if you have any issues...

@SchoolBoyToTheRescue It is all about the Ecosystem. Amazon allows you to tie in so many devices and services that the Nook tablet seems irrelevant. If you are looking for the most powerful 7 in device "today" go for the nook, but there is no way that BN will be able to replicate the Ecosystem.

I already have a netflix account, my gf has a hulu+ account, and having the additional ram, storage, sd card slot, and mic is well worth the $50 dollars to me. Cloud storage is great and all, but being able to store a good amount of content on the device is a must for anyone who plans to travel.

@TechWilling They do. Anything you buy through Barnes and Noble as a digital item, is logged onto your account and you can re download it whenever. Which means Books, Magazines, and Applications. It does not include music and video, which I think is 5gb free for amazon stuff and you pay for anything after that. But with the huge difference in space, you can make up for that, and of course dropbox accounts are always handy ;)
