Is't the siri diction recognition the same as the google voice recognition software? Like in Android phones, you have the option of using google's voice recognition stuff to type textts, do a web search etc, and the recognition is excellent as well.

@ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy iPhone 4S ram is the same amount as the iPhone 4. Siri dictation sent the audio file to the servers and and get the result back just like android. In fact, android 4.0 ICS sent the result as you are speaking word by word. The A5 processor does help Siri on the noise canceling algorithm that is effective at arm length from the device.

I'm a iPhone 4S user not an Android user. Just want you to get your facts right because a lot of people are listening to you.

Great video, but the only problem that I have is that Siri does use Apple's cloud servers and can not run without a data connection. You could have known this before making the video but its a minor detail.

I'm so impressed by the accuracy as well. Siri is fun, but for me, the dictation feature is where it's at. I love not having to type out long texts on my phone, especially since the speech-to-text is so lightening fast.

Those aren't Siri's voice to text capabilities... they're Nuances (The tech behind Dragon) and Apple is just licensing them. Siri is an app that uses what's translated already to give you a pre-programed response it gets from Apple's servers. So when you use the speech to text in the messaging app that is NOT Siri doing anything, that's Nuances voice to text inputting into the text box. Android uses it's own developed voice to text technology which they supposedly enhanced in ICS, we will see.

Dictation is great... but nothing new or phenomenal. Android has had the capability FOREVER now and it has been very accurate on Android as well. The processing is NOT done by the phone, but by servers. Only putting it on 4S is just Apple's way of trying to get all the iPhone 4 owners to buy an iPhone 4S.

What I do find interesting is the AI of Siri. I would love to have a chat with her myself.

you should have said said good work nuance, considering its nuances technology being used for dictation. And dragon dictation is a good app for dictation on iphone 4 and lower devices, at least until siri gets ported.

The Dragon dictation is also pretty darned impressive. I tried the sentence you tried and it also processed it very fast and 100% accurate. Oh and I'm from Belgium so my English has some holes here and there.

No. Siri doesn't have to do anything with a5 chip. Everything is processed in the cloud. They already ported Siri to iPod touch 4g and it works just as good as on 4s.

@iDroid7 Definitely doesn't. I saw the demo. Yes, a port is in process, and we will surely see it soon, but it doesn't work 'just as good.' They're running the OS without the GPU. It's horrendously slow. That's not to say it won't be fixed to be just as fast in the future, but it's certainly not ready for primetime.
